Can we get dick to fund an end of season leadership trip. Like what Collingwood do and was it Hawthorn who went on the Kakoda trek? Something that will bring out natural leadership in the boys, bring the team together, get them working together.... Surely we have the funds for something like this now :-D

Stevens would be a stop gap.

If he was still at Port or a top rung club he wouldn't even be on the 2nd line of betting for captaincy.

It's great that the young midfielders look up to him, but that's more an indictment on the lack of other options than merit.

Why do people think Stevens is such an obvious choice? For mine he'd be another captain, like whitnall, filling in time until Murphy or Gibbs is seen as 'ready'. We don't even know how he's going to recover from his major surgery, and the pressure of captaincy almost forcing him into playing (as has been the case with Lance this year if we're to believe reports about his knee) isn't going to help us.

That being the case, flowering bite the bullet and just hand it to Murph on a platter next year. He's shown that he mentally strong, loves the club, and I think it will lift his game rather than stifle it. Only one way to find out. It shows that the club believes in the kids taking the club forward on the field.

People said the same about Richie Vandenberg and look what his club is achieving.

You're kidding aren't you? Hawthorn have leaders in many areas on the field. Hodge, Crawford, Joel Smith...

Not because they have Vandenburg sitting in the clubrooms, as good for team spirit as he may be.

We have neither.

If you reckon the hawks will stick with Vandenburg next year over Hodge then I'd love to get some of that stuff...

All I'm questioning is why so many people reckon Stevens is the obvious choice for captain... I don't reckon he is and I can't see the point in appointing him for a couple of years while we wait for Murph to 'be ready'.

You just made my point.

Ah bollocks. So I did.

I say good luck to Wee Ned.

He'll have trouble bringing someone to that club from outside that has the passion and drive for the Carlton Football Club purely because we offer them $$$.

I say no to a heart transplants, you gotta grow from within. (Metaphorically, that is...)

A week or two ago I read about the esteem and pressure being placed on those who would be captain. Bryce was elevated to the leadership group before he'd been given his guernsey. Would recruiting a captain in the same way we recruited Sticks be the best way to go about things? Sure, they have ladled the burden of captaincy on Red on the basis that we was seen to be the most senior player in the team. Ws he given a choice? Did we have a choice? Do we have a choice now?

Walls on On The Coach said the game has passed our captain by.

So much for leadership...

I cant believe this love in with Grant Thomas. Here is abloke who as a player was crap. He was punted by St Kilda, Fitzroy, and North Melb.

He lasted as a selector at North for about 2 months before getting the arse for being divisive.

Then he slithers back to St Kilda, gets on the board and hires Blight, then does the stilleto job on him and ''selflessly'' takes his job.
Then he cracks the shits because the club wouldn't give him the powers of a soccer manager ie total control. So just to prove how big a man he is he sacks Mathew Capuano mid season and has the gall to front the press and call Capuano ''Mediocre''.
So finally the penny drops at moorabbin and Thomas is out on his ear. Why? Probably other than being petulant and arrogant, his football career could be summed up in one word...mediocre.[/i]

Stevens has admitted the last 3 years he hadnt prepared as well as this year. Captaincy is hardly how you reward that comment. I'd have him above Whitnall.

My choice is Murphy. 2 years in the job, he'll be the best going around.

redskins is right, Pagan doesnt promote ladership values.
Voss as coach, Grant Thomas as director or whatever you want to call it. Not involved in tactics or matchday, co-ordinating leadership stargies, coaching directives etc

Pagan doesn't promote leadership values, but Voss doesn't show responsibility.

We wouldn't make Fev captain for going the biff, we should make Voss coach for the same.

That and his persona in general, ok great leader on-field but lacks the mettle and experience of a coach that deserves the Carlton list.
