Just reported by Tiff Cherry on the SEN pre-game that she was at the president's dinner before the game and Pratt announced that 9 hotels had been bought (not by him) by a benefactor and Carlton will receive the profits.

Awesome news that the club has been given a jump start in generating non-football related income streams. Thanks to the mystery benefactor.

Club will get revenue from nine pubs - bought/provided by a supporter (guess who :-D ).
Pratt said the deal would generate ``millions'' for the club.
Some directors and other wealthy backers will also put some money in.
He also said about $8 million had been paid off the debt. That and the record membership meant Dicky was crowing!!!
Let's hope we all are later tonight.

he also said there would be no ""downside risk or liability"" for the club. :-D :-D :-D

We might turn a profit this year if we're not careful.

Mathieson?

The talk was 2 pubs last year, 9 pubs is fantastic.

I'd like to know where they are so I can do my bit to help. 8)

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, buy him a fleet of deepsea fishing trawlers, a canning facility and a guaranteed distribution deal with Tesco and you feed him for life.

Nice work RP, BM and Co.

Great news.

Thank you Richard and Bruce and others for all your efforts into getting Carlton back on track.

Now we can spend more on the science of recruiting the right players I hope.

Great news. Alternative revenue strands are just what the club needs and just what the club hasn't been able to afford over the last few years.

$8 million of debt already wiped, even better news. We were in debt for $8.5 million correct? Astonishing that it's almost completely gone in half a year. Dick Pratt is working miracles.

hmmm... by my calculations that would make us debt free? (including the AFL loan) - might be off by 500k or so but I'm pretty sure the figure was around that mark

Any of these pubs open? Would murder a beer or twelve right about now.

Great news!

Love this line from Dick:

"To all the members, I say: thank you for playing your part, thank you for keeping the faith even through the last few difficult years. We expect to repay that faith, with interest, and it won't be a question of if, but when."

and the profits will be tax deductible as they are going to a charity - or a basketcase.

kenny the Age article says that this will help us get debt free, not that the debt had been paid off. Do you know any more?
