Sprouting optimism yet again Donstuie... I'm yet to see a single positive post from you yet mate, then again I may be wrong - one or two positives in 80-odd posts could prove hard to find...

I'd say I'm a realist more than anything. I know that one day we'll be back where we belong with the other teams watching our backs disappear in the dust. But I am also cautious about getting my hopes up ahead of time. I first made that mistake after the 2000 season before the AFL flower us, and then in 2004 where the events afterwards broke my heart and made me sick all at once.

There's a lot to like about this group and the way they are developing, and my confidence will definitely grow if we can finish with 8-10 wins by the end of the year, but I'd rather take that ride every step of the way with these guys, rather than waiting at the finish line.

One week at a time ;)

Well said. :)

We'll leave the stirring to you PJ - you come across as a good cook/housewife. :P

There was a suggestion made by Gerard Healy that it may only take 11 games this year to make the 8 such is the evenness of the competition.

On The Couch

Healy suggested that Tigers and Demons aren't that bad, and Mike Sheehan mentioned that Demons followed by the Saints are the worst hit teams for injury thus far in 2007.

He has no doubt that teams like Tigers, Demons, Saints and Blues will upset a lot of opponents' plans for the remainder of the year.

Now if Carlton needs 7 more wins to make the 8 this year, then we can afford to drop 4 games for the remainder of the season. Problem is, I can't see who we will lose to for the remainder of the season.

When we beat the Hawks on Friday, that'll bring us to 5 wins of 11 wins required and they will be another team out of the way for the remainder of the year, (till we meet them in the finals I suppose).

The 4 games we may drop imo are as follows:

Rnd 13 Freo (Subiaco)...may win that though
Rnd 15 Swans (SCG)...should win that too.
Rnd 17 Saints (Dome)...the tables should turn and we win that too.

Shit, I didn't realise we have put ourselves in a position to playing finals this year. and I'm trying to be pessimistic, but I'm quietly confident that it can happen. Why not? :?

How? One week at a time.

Carlton, the sleeping giant, is awake, are you?

Lets just focus on winning 3 in a row for the first time in 3 years before we even bother to imagine the F word. :-D

BondiBlue,

Sorry to inject some realism (sanity) into this discussion, but after 12 rounds the Bulldogs & Port are outside the 8 with 6 wins. That suggests 12 wins may not get you in.

Carlton cannot possibly win 7 of 11 let alone 9.

Hope I'm wrong (but I'm not).

regards,
kkk[/quote]

Winning half our remaining games is a realistic target - anything above that is a bonus.

10 wins would be an excellent effort for the year, but we should always leave open the possibility of being pleasantly surprised.

The looks of elation on their faces last night when we were 60 points up -realising that we were going to win well -going to win 2 in a row was priceless

To every one out there in footy cyberspace the Blues are coming there will still be some beltings and disappointments but the sleeping giant has awoken and where headed for the top

Nice one frank ... was really pleasing to see some crowd shots on the telly broadcast during the game with three young kids, all in Blues jumpers, screaming their lungs out for the team. Fantastic to see the future starting to regain momentum on and off the field.

One game at a time. Steady as she goes.

Being relaistic, every game is a 2 horse race, a 50-50 bet.

Carlton seems to have turned on the engines with a new found belief, and results to prove it.

If we win this winnable game this week, the beliek will just get stronger. Anything can happen either way.

So rather than think tanking, why not just let nature take its course and see how well we have done with our draft picks/ trades since Black Friday.

I think we have a very very good list, albeit young, but the bodies are looking seasoned. I just can't see a team of skinny kids anymore. This team of ours has really progressed in leaps and bounds...it's the superkids, and they're coming your way soon..

Tonight absolutely diabolical and really soul destroying BUT EVEN MORE IMPORTANT after tonight to keep the faith in our young players
WON 4 OUT OF 12 much better than last year - need another couple of early picks -hopefully no 2 but still win 6-8 games
The tide will turn

The Richmond game coming up will flower lose Kreuzer for us. #@$%#$@%

Unnaceptable tonight. Anyone who craps on about improving isn't having a look. I've never seen a team get so many uncontested possies as the Awks tonite. Buddy would have kicked 11 tonite..no joke.

Disgraceful.

Admitted tonight was diabolical but have won 4 games out of 12 last year was 2 AT THIS STAGE - team is immeasurably better than last year -still needs some refining in some areas and heavy pruning in others but still think we are going forward - WE HAD 53 000 there tonight because we have won 2 in a row and play (aside from tonight attractive football )
I RECKON TONIGHT WAS AN ABERRATION and we had a stinker as a team not one winner for the night
