Excellent news. I've been saying since his first game that Walker is going to be a star, and as long as we keep him happy we're looking at a future 200-game life member of the club. I wish it was longer than 2 years though, as he'll be in the elite by then and will no doubt be attracting some ridiculous offers by then.

As for Josh, I'm very happy for him and hold high hopes that he can live up to his potential. But I think even he must be feeling that the next two years will be the most important in his footy life. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been told what will be expected of him by then and the consequences if he doesn't reach those expectations.

Fantastic news :-)

Here's an Age feature on Walks in the wake of his re-signing - http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/kicking-up-a-gear/2007/06/14/1181414462823.html

Carlton locks in Walker, Kennedy

In the case of Walker, whose future at Carlton has been subject to speculation in the past, the Blues acted in anticipation that rival clubs, such as Essendon*, had an eye on the athletic pick No. 2 from the 2003 draft.

Nice one, boys.
The two years is surely a reflection of the fact that in two years we will have a massive headache wil salary cap management when all the first round kids are stars and demanding big money. Three-year contracts will be reserved for the very few so as to stagger the negotiations next round. I thought Walks would be one of those, though.
I also thought Kennedy might get a one year job but maybe it is a safety measure or a gesture of confidence. Either way, I join with all Carlton supporters in wishing him well and hoping he turns into a gun.

Does Greg Baum know something that we don't? He hints twice at the prospect of 1AW leaving the club . . .

And by Jake Niall too . . .

Why on earth would you think Kennedy might only get a 1 year deal?

i think its more a case of suggesting that Texas wasnt reaching his potential at Carlton and may have had to look elsewhere to do so.

he is realising his potential, so stay at Carlton he does.

well done to both of the lads, but are and will be quality footballers for the club for along time :)

Definitely fantastic news!

I am a little surprised that Walker was not given three years.

Perhaps they were only willing to give JK two and thought that if they gave AW one extra year that may have had a negative effect...

At any rate I very confident 1AW will be a 200 + gamer for the blues.

Just in case it was missed Nick Stevens and the club have agreed to the terms of a new contract and he will sign once he gets the medical all clear.

Quote:
Carlton has also moved to offer security for Nick Stevens, provided he is given a medical all-clear on resuming his career after a serious neck injury.

The club and Stevens have agreed on terms that are subject to the medicos' clearance.

The latest signings have ensured the side's best young talent stays together, with the No. 1 selections in the past two drafts, Bryce Gibbs and Marc Murphy, already locked up

This statement indicates that both Gibbs and Murphy have been given new contracts....

I though Murphy was out of contract this year?
