Written by some bloke called Ak-Mul but bloody spot on.

Here's what he says about Walker-

Quote:
2. Andrew Walker (CARL)- Walker burst onto the scene in his debut game, collecting 26 possessions, nearly pulling down mark of the year and earning himself a rising star nomination along the way. Unfortunately for Blues fans and fortunately for opposition fans, Walker hasn’t been able to do that consistently and is yet to find his feet at AFL level. Walker is a great size and will be superstar with his sublime skills, explosive speed and football smarts but he needs to find some consistency in his game and continue to show the promise he did in his first match. There’s no doubt that Walker won’t be a superstar, you just have too watch him train. He has a ferocious will to win and along with his skills and talent that’s why I think he will be a superstar, but not just yet. Something that Walker does have to his advantage is that he a year younger then his 2003 counterparts. Walkers progress = 6/10… Average progress but let’s not forget the year difference in age. He’s shown flashes of brilliance but like I mentioned before, no consistency. When he finds that he will be one of the stars of the AFL and he will absolutely destroy a team, but not just yet. It will take some time.

If you wanna read the rest you can find it at http://www.wrestlingasylum.com/03draft_part1.htm

He reviews the top 7 of the draft, good read.

For all of you wondering who Ak-Mul is, it is Chris aka Big Danny G.

Nice try, Chris.

I agree Big Danny G. Age is an important factor in regard to player development (smarts, strength etc).
I think that someone like Jarrad Waite has taken a little while to develop but is becoming one of our best players. He has always had the potential but is now starting to realise it.

"Sublime skills" is overstating it. A lot.

I've posted before about a reserves match I was watching in 1992 ...Carlton v Collingwood. I turned to a friend of mine and said "Look - I know that club has big wraps on him - but I just can't see it...he looks like he woke up this morning and inherited size 13 feet and is taking his sweet time adjusting to them"

I was referring to Anthony Koutoufides. He was the same age then as Walker is now....and for a 19 year old - he will take some time getting used to the body that he now has. Jarrad Waite...same thing. I think 2007 will be AW's groundbreaking year....and remember - he'll be 21.

I think Kouta debuted in the seniors in 93. It wasn't until his 3rd season that he really got things going.

Next year, with another 5 kg on his frame, AW will be amazing (and so will Jarrad).

Personally I dont think Walker has footy smarts. His reading of play and decision making is what I think lets him down, A run with role on the best players in the AFL or even stints in the Bullants may assit his development more than persisting with him as a winger/half forward

Fair enough, that's your opinion, but i think that's a pretty stupid thing to say. When Walkers on, he's on. Have a look at his debut, how could you fault his decision making and you couldn't fault his skills either.

He turned it on, Carlton were playing well and he was let run free.

That will happen sooner or later and he'll be playing those sort of games more often. It's all just a matter of time for Walker IMO. He reminds me of Kouta in everyway, his kicking style is the same aswell. Doesn't really guide it just let's it lose but he does have great skills and it will all come together sooner or later.

Walker's sublime skills??? is this a piss-take?

Walker has been largely disappointing so far.
