Putting Saturdays on field result behind me, I'd like to congratulate Michael Malouf and his staff on Saturdays effort.

I thought the effort of the past few months really paid off and those above provided a beautiful day to top it off.
The screens were fantastic for the supporters, the corporate hospitality was a far greater task than usual yet the staff handled it all beautifully.
Chris, Kate, Stephen, John and all the others in the corporate section had a massive task yet the service and standard was probably better than usual.

The marquee looked sensational, the old girl presented beautifully with a bit of paint on top of the Heatley Stand, new sponsors signs and the best surface in the game.

The pre game entertainment was very good and the post game symbolism bought a tear to the eye.
Carlton have done wrong in the past and deservedly recieved criticism for it.
But for Saturday, a brilliant effort by all and a fantastic send off for something dear to all our hearts.

Brilliantly done by Michael Malouf, all his staff, directors and all involved.

Lets leave that to Fatprick shall we. - although he can't find room for praise where warranted.

Agree Blue Vain was a well presented and emotional  day.

Agree BV, absoloutly brilliant day. Had tears flowing when they presented the cups.

Also a big congrats must also go to Kenny Hunter as he worked full time on organising the day over the past five weeks.

Yes, a mighty effort by all concerned.

The Cups sparkling in the sunshine and the flags flying in the breeze filled me with pride. The champions parading with their kids was a nice touch.

But the final touch of Kouta picking up the Sherrin in one hand and holding it aloft to his adoring fans...magic.

And handing it to Big Nick with the accompanying bear hug made the tears flow.

I missed the early stuff but thought the bit after the siren was fantastic.

I was a little worried that there would be some contrived thing like the Vic Park 'final play' and speeches etc etc.

As it was it was very simple and I think that made it a lot more emotional.

I was surprised at Kouta. I felt that he was very demonstrative in holding the ball above his head. It was kind of out of character. This is the guy who celebrates some of the most unbelievable goals ever kicked with a polite little clap. He seemed to be overtly proud of his involvement. Proud to be captain of his club.

Big Nick was also similar to Kouta; a fairly quite man on the field. But he too played the role well.

I would like to add my congratulations as well - eloquent, moving and classy effort all around.

Will never be able to listen to local hero again without tearing up.

...and kudos to our magnificent leader. Not only was he the only one on the field who rose to the heights expected of Carlton champions his walk and hand-over was spinetingling.

Hear, hear BV.

Was a great and fitting tribute both before and after the game.

Well done to all involved.

Thanks also to the club for allowing me to have a comeback to the Melbourne wag who yelled out shortly after Big Nick left the ground "look at the scoreboard" I retorted with ...

"16 premierships and 6 in my lifetime arsehole!"

.... must have been one of 10 demon supporters at the ground who couldn't afford a trip to the snow

Good comment Doctor.

I know commercially we had to move, but emotionally I'm not coping, I only had a little cry on Saturday but I think I needed to make it a big one.

Does anyone know if the pre and post match will be sold on tape? I'm happy for them to skip the match.

Summed up beautifully....and I'm sure it will be on DVD (so you can skip the game)...Foxtel replays didn't show it this week...very disappointing

Agree with you BV.

What I wrote in another thread:
Quote:

Must admit, at the end of the game when they started playing the Boccelli/Brightman song and the PA called up a sheepish looking Kouta to the middle of the ground, I was squirming to myself: "What's all this crap then? This better not be embarrasing...". The feeling only lasted a few seconds though.

Kouta picked up the match day ball, ever so humbly held it aloft and waved goodbye to all parts of the ground and all our fans for the very last time. And then when our last Princes Park captain handed it over to probably our greatest ever, and most revered, player and affectionately embraced him I must admit it was impossible to hold it back. First time I've cried over anything to do with football. I watched, as I saw a player I never got to see play, holding the Remnant of our last ever Home Game, to a guard of honor and standing ovation. It really hit me at that moment, what a proud history we have and what a privelege it is to be a Blues supporter.

It was very fitting and touching farewell. They couldn't have done the Final Act any better IMO! Well done to all those involved!

Vale Princes Park.

PS:  to MrsC's new signature! :P

I went down from Sydney and sitting in my regular seat in the Heatley stand I looked around as they showed the video highlights of the past-it was a strange experience to look around and see so many including myself with watery eyes.
You could feel the collective emotion.
I could identify so many of the highlights and where I remembered sitting or standing on each occasion(like when I was standing right in the line of Bosustow taking his mark of the year!)
I am glad I didn't miss this farewell-it was a well organized ending.

what a day, could not care less that we lost i was so proud regardless to be a bluebagger.

what i came to realise is my grandfather when he came to australia always was at princes park week in week out, my father and his brothers grew up at the ground from a young age, me and my siblings have also, yet my kids will never see princes park as the rest of us knew it.
My kids will never see the future carlton superstars and premiership hereos take games by the scruff of the neck erupting the carlton faithful week in week out.
My kids will never know what it was like going to a ground and feeling the intimidation that us carlton supporters gave to opposition teams and the pure hell it used to be for them to play in front of us.
I understand the commercial aspect and realise it had to be done, but saturday was really hard to say goodbye, it was saying goodbye to 22 great years of my life i spent at my second home, that being the great princes park.

also how they are proposing to play games at carrara is shitting me now also, why not just use our ground, bastard demetriou
