I wont mention the obvious coz thats easy.

But,Lance played well.In the early part of the match he initiated so much.
Reckon Saddington with his maturity has added a bit of stability down back.A calming influence on those around him.Westhoff beat him sure. But with great respect to the guy,the bounce of the ball favoured him.It really fell into his lap a couple of times.
Ackland won the ruck last night.Hell, what more could he do.Had the better of Brogan and Lade.A couple of handy types and Ackland won out.Ackland should have been beat by weight of numbers alone.A fantastic game by Ackland.

The cons ? ya kidding, right.I'll start looking for them when we become a good side.Right now its time to saviour the moment.

PS.......i declared Jordan Russell after his magoos effort last week.Well done. Now ya gotta go on with it Jordan.......no iffs or butts.

Fadeout was a bit ordinary but were we resting people? I noticed that Murphy and Lance spent much of the last quater on the bench. Saving them for next week?

Our workrate and tackling was so strong for 3 qtrs that we simply ran out of legs. Good thing was that we had such a buffer that it did not matter this time...

Many times in the past few years we have been able to "restore some pride" on the scoreboard in the last quarter against teams we had been thumped by but taken the foot off the pedal in the last quarter. It's nice to return the favour I guess.

Also lovely to see Cornes and his mates squealing like stuck pigs every time a decision went against them. Now you know how other teams feel every time they travel to Port and get reamed by the hometown umpires matey. Not that the umpiring was biased at all last night. Port just played dumb.

Fadeout was great,i had 100 on us at 1-39 :-D :-D :-D

Pros:
1. Made the long haul across the Nullabor to see a great game of footy.
2. After Port kicked the first goal we got down to business and were in front all night. No catch-up required.
3. Ackland is still improving. Showed a bit of aggression. Good to see.
4. Setanta.
5. Around 30K at the Telstra Dome and what an un-holy racket we made! Great atmosphere!

Cons:
1. Virgin Blue cancelling my flight to Melbourne with a whopping 5 minutes warning before the scheduled boarding time. I flew Jetstar. I wont fly Virgin again after such a debacle.
2. I only got to drink 4 beers as there were so many goals kicked I couldn't leave my seat.
3. I had to listen to that ridiculous Port Adelaide theme song and the PA system malfunctioned while playing Lilly of Laguna at the start of the game.

PRO: Being able to tell my 6yr old son that this was what watching Carlton was like every week when I was growing up and seeing his eyes widen with the hope and expectation that this is what it might be like for him too.

CON: Not being able to tell him this at the ground!

Pros:
- Our boy Wiggo playing a ripper. 10 strong grabs and a heap of possessions. Add to that the spoils, crashes, tap ons and all the other tough stuff. Definitely his best game for the year and shows he is hitting peak form. I hope his knockers finally realise his value to the team. Sombo lets enjoy it.
- Bentick was great. A guy who I have been very iffy about. His contesting was solid as usual. But his disposal and decision making also looked good. Growing in confidence. Hope it continues.
- Brother, you were right all along about Carrazzo. Kicking some ass out there. His decision making has improved so much.
- Fish is fearless and so important to us. Great game
- Waite is pounding all of those fools who critised him and used him as a scape goat (as I pointed out) after a couple of early iffy performances. A game breaker and match winner... much needed.
- Walker, Gibbs and Murph ... the 3 amigos. Will provide plenty of smiles to my face for many years to come. All class these three.
- Lappo another great game. And Lance important while on the field. Took care of things in the backline in the first half and chimed in with 2 excellenet goals to top it off. Where is Agro and Synbad now?
- JR proving so many of you wrong. Again another one I have stuck by because I can see the talent and its just a matter of experience and development.

Con
- NONE. If we play like this all the time, and with the talent we have, we will grow into a force. The only question from here is do we have the depth to cover losses due to injury if/when they occur. That's why I believe we are still 2 years off. Although I wouldn't put it past us to play finals next year if a few others come on quickly.

Why do they have to be trade bait. Why can't they just grow and progress without any pressure in the VFL. Why why why????. All 3 of them will play against AFL players in the VFL. They will learn their craft. Let them play 4 quarters each week and get up to speed. If Mitch is the guru then surely they are being well taught and they will gain confidence. Time in the VFL should only make them hungry for success when/if they get the call up.

Does it really matter if they play 30 VFL games. They get their bodies right for the AFL and get a few kicks without the pressure of impatient supporters screaming abuse at them when the drop a mark of miss a target. Let them mature and progress slowly without the stress, strains and expectations imposed on them by others outside the club.

Refresh my memory. How many Reserves games did Michael Tuck play before stepping up to the Big Time??? Didn't seem to hurt him much.

Regards Cazzesman

True Cazz. The taller they are, the longer they take to develop. And the bigger the returns when they do.

Have a look at Walks. Over the last few years, any poll would clearly have given Cooney the nod regarding who was the more valuable player. Today on SEN it was a draw. By the end of the season (as long as Walks stays fit - touch wood), he'll have overtaken Cooney well and truly. It took him a while to develop his larger body and fine-tune his skills, but it was well worth the wait. And he's smaller than Harts and JK.

People try & cover for the one or 2 senior money spongers who are knowhere near senior premiership player material by taking the easy way out and blaming the kids for not performing as seasoned AFL players straight away.
Very sad.

Pro's.
Walks was terrific. He & Carrotts have really stepped up to help Murph cover for the loss of Stevo. Leaders!!!

Setanta working in general play to snag a couple of well executed goals. His disposal is mostly very accurate.

Ackland is at least competing and making the opposition talls work.

Budzy who are you referring to? The guy that was one of the best afield in the second half last week (Kouta) or the one thats kicking 3 goals in 3 minutes to get us back in the game (Lappin). Or maybe the guy that is captain and was the general in the backline in the first half this week while also pushing down to kick a couple of handy goals (Lance). Or maybe the guy taking 10 marks and crashing the packs (Wiggo). Without those guys in the team, the youngsters don't develop at all.

I'd like Wiggo & Lappo around to help our young blokes next year. That would be a pro :)

Quotes below from me in match discussion thread....lazy

PROS

Quote:
The first thought after the game was that with NO INJURIES = NO CHANGE required to the team.

Finally the kids (Kennedy, Hartlett, Benji, Austin, Flint, Bower, Edwards, Raso, Jamieson...) can learn their craft in the twos without the expectation of them being our saviours, when they still have an apprenticeship to serve. We are not desperate as we've been for the kids to perform like seasoned players. This is good for the kids.

Quote:
Ackland and Setanta vs Lage and 'Bogan'...I was wrong, or 'Bogan' was underdone...but we faired very well in the ruck; didn't win it, but i got a bit of our own. Great effort Ackland (I'm off your case this week)

Everyone deserves their position next week.

Couldn't find fault in anyone. Everyone played a role, and we can't have 22 players with 25 possessions each.

Setantaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Waiteyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Banoooooooooooooooo
Houlaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Walkaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Jordieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

...well my favourites were fantastic.

We have real pressure for positions, despite injury.

We're clawing back our percentage.
We're 2 games out of the 8 at the 1/2 way mark.
We have momentum.
We have pressure for positions
We have a multi prong attack
We have a midfield 'brigade'

I like the strong bodied team we put out on the park. Even our kids like Murphy, Russell and Blackers have thick bodies to compete at this level. Simmo isn't skinny any more, and as for skinny ...you can't fatten thoroughbreds.

Quote:
Wiggo and Banno are fantastic for this team. Was always a big Banno fan (Mr Fix it), but have to say Wiggo along with the Fish has very very sticky hands....showed it against WCE last year inb the 1st half....he did it for 4 quarters last night.

Backline superb. Gibbs is so reliable. Saddo and Thornton give away cm's, but are bloody steady on their feet and with their body on body work.

Ruckmen really competing well. Ackland's timing was the best I've seen in the Navy Blue. Setanta is our best ruckman/onballer. Would love to have him as our (big) ruck rover when Kouta retires, and when Aisake steps up.

This team hunts in packs. Forward momentum is in swarms. We were everywhere whilst we had legs. The revival has definetely started in 2007. 2nd highest score in the competition.

CONS

Quote:
Didn't miss Betts, and there's no way I'd take Lappin out of the FP for Betts. (Betts' time will come though...maybe).

Quote:
Who loses their position when Stevens, Grigg, Aisake, Anderson, Edwards, Betts, Hartlett, Bower, Kennedy and Cloke press for team selection?

Quote:
What will happen to Jackson & Young next year?

Loved what Saddo and Thornton did, but forwards are not getting smaller but bigger, so on a dry track (Dome), I think we need someone with Setanta's height in a KP back position...Hartlett?

Kouta should have been saved for the last quarter assault.

PROS: The team on the park has proven they want to be competitive and that we can kick big scores without being reliant on the FEV alone.

We have a good mix of age and experience moving forward. Proves we have a lot of upside, especially from the quality in the group that's played less than 100 games.

By the ned of next year we should have at least 20 players on our list with more than 50 games of experience. We all know what that means. Bring it on!

100+ games

Kouta (retire 2008)
Lappin
Lance
Scotland
Houlihan
Fevola
Saddington

Stevens (injured)
McLaren (injured)
Teague (injured)

50+ games

Thornton
Waite
Fisher
Walker
Wiggins
Bannister
Ackland

Less than 50 games

Bentick
Simpson
Carazzo

Cloke (injured)
Betts (injured)

Kids with less than 30 games

Murphy
Gibbs
Blackwell
O'hAlpin
Russell

Anderson (injured)

Kennedy (Ants)
Hartlett (Ants)
Bower (Ants)
Jackson (Ants)
Young (Ants)

Yet to play

Grigg
Aisake
Edwards
Benjamin
Austin
Hampson
Flint
Jacobs
Jamieson
Raso

Plus 3-4 new draftees (midfielders/ ruck) in 2008. We're a more attractive place to be, with a major sponsorship to be announced and good press, we may snag a big name too!!

Are we going places or what?

Go Bluebaggers
