I'd hope the 5 missing contain at least 3 key key defenders...

If Aisake debuts this year, would he be on the list too?

How many tall key defenders did Sydney have?

Ive said this since 2002, but it is far clearer now than it was back then.

Carlton's time to return to being a football power is between 2008 and 2010.

The attacking game plan that I envisaged is now here, with the young players to execute it.

There are a few significant jigsaw pieces yet to fall into position though.

we may still play finals yet 8) - particularly if we beat the hawks. At 5 and 7 entering the mideseason break we would be just one game outside of the 8 and with a reasonable run home

I agree with that.

Ive an open mind of where to from here.

Its in the possible but not probable category, even so I would not be writing us off to play finals just yet.

Keep a lid on it, but also remember that stranger things have happened.

Then again, I've always said that we were good enough for finals (including last year) provided we
- backed in our players to perform
- got rid of our overreliance on Fev to kick goals
- had a positive attacking game plan

All 3 are starting to happen although the last one probably needs a bit more tinkering (leave whitnall forward FFS!)

Disagree on two there...

Betts... I havent been his biggest fan this year and can't see him getting back in the side in a hurry... EVERY player in our team can play in another position if required (defence, midfield, forward)... he simply cant. He is to small to play midfield, only a forward pocket IMO. Even Wiggins and Bannister are more flexible!

Kennedy... While I hope and pray he will be there, up to now I have not seen anything to make me believe that he will make it. Slow, drops marks, kicking ordinary.... lets hope he can turn it around with some confidence.. but definately not in my 2010 side on form (on expectation is a different story)!

Wow, defense is a real issue. Players on our list who might fill the breach are: Bannister, Saddington, Hartlett, Bower, Flint, Anderson, Austin.

The second ruck position on the bench will be fought over by Ackland, Aisake, Hampson, and Jacobs.

Would love to see Banno there (every good team needs a good tagger-stopper), and of course Ando, Grigg, Aisake and Benji.

Betts has been rubbish these last couple of weeks. Nowhere to be seen! Hopeless...
