Premier League asks NRL, AFL to sue YouTube

Quote:
THE NRL and AFL are considering joining a class-action suit led by soccer's UK Premier League against US website giant YouTube.

An AFL spokesperson confirmed it had been approached by the Premier League and said it was considering its options.

"We have been invited (to join the class action) but haven't made a decision yet."

It's the Cricket World Cup all over again.

How the hell do they expect to promote the game worldwide when a few flashes of play get pulled due to 'copyright infringement'?

Sport is run, in the main, by utter morons.

Fox Sports & the Herald Sun do clips. Fox Sports did clips for the WC.

En-masse uploading of game/match footage waters down the market value of a sporting body's media rights, so you can understand that they'd be annoyed.

I think in the AFL's case the huge worldwide exposure would be a good thing.

Exactly.

For a code that has ambitions to push into Africa and Asia we have absolutely no idea.

Youtube uploaders are promoting their code worldwide FOR FREE.

You can't buy that sort of coverage. For the AFL to threaten to kill it off for the few meagre dollars they'd get out of subscribers to the likes of foxsports and the herald-sun is an absolute nonsense.

The current regime of the AFL will long be remembered as a short-sighted pack of idiots that sat on their hands while soccer took a stranglehold on the country.

I fear for the future of our game.

Keyword: en-masse.

Several major networks in the US have their own youtube channel where they show bits and pieces of shows. That's something the AFL should consider, yes.

Nice how Simmo congratulated Jarrad after he kicked it and then took care of Harris!

Man on man football - I love it!

A pity Kennedy didn't even look like he would kick the goal and put it out on the full. :(

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asGDoQRElRk

That will come if our coach can build his confidence by playing him forward for four quarters and not drop him after just one week as a relief ruckman. It will also come when Lance retires to let him have a clean run at CHF. 8)
