I constantly put myself down for being an eternal optimist about our Blue Boys, but its just my nature. Having not lived through the dominant 70's and 80's and before then i cant FULLY understand just how dominant the club is, but i know damn well we're the best team in the history of this league, and having lived through a relatively dominant 90's it sh*ts me more than anyone to have lived through the past 5years.
After listening to Heath Scotland on SEN the other day, i was given so much more optimistm. Scotty put it perfectly when he said that we cant comprehend just how much the team relies on Nick Stevens, without Stevo our midfielder who gets the number 1 tagger is the young developing Marc Murphy, and the younger developing Bryce Gibbs would get 2nd tager, which is why we've played him down back to try and get him a kick or two...not to mention that his body cant cope with 22 weeks of footy in the middle...so all things considered, our boys are being nurtured superbly by the coaching staff by not feeding them to the lions so to speak.
The Club has no misconceptions about where we're at, nor should us fans. At the start of the year, winning 7 or 8 games was a realistic target, and in many ways it still could be, but in all seriousness, winning 5 games and picking up picks 1 and 4 will put the club SO far further forward in development that we'll be in a position next year to win 10 games and threaten for the top 8. We have a forwardline with more options than Windows XP, and a team which this weeks 25 selected players consist of 9 guys with less than 50 games, and a further 9 players played less than 100 games...its ridiculous how well our boys are doing all things considered. Sure there's no such thing as an honourable loss, but id MUCH rather lose like the past 3 weeks where we've kicked an average of 18 goals and have been competative than lose and have kicked an average of 6 or 7 goals like StKilda have been playing.
The fans have thrown support behind the boys again this year, knowing full well that we're this close < > to meaning something again. So im willing to wait another 13 weeks and look for positives rather than call for heads to roll when in reality we shouldnt have many expectations rather than 13more weeks of competative footy, because that should be expected from any team in any position of struggle....
Go Blues...
Nic
