I know we would have smashed them in the GF

Yep, I went to the prelim & can remember my heart slowly sinking as they just threw it all away.

I thought Ess had our measure once we played them in the QF actually. They had 3 or 4 top players out that night & we only just got over them.

It's a tricky one, my immediate thought is to have passed the info on to the club. What I'd like to know is how did Daniher discover the identity of the recipient?

It is an amazing story though.

Like most I have heard this story before and it has been discussed before on the The Blue View last year after Parkin made some comments about it last year. I pretty sure the bloke's number was already in the machine (a chemist or something), so Daniher could contact him and pleaded that he not reveal it to Carlton.

Can't agree that the Blues would have been smashed reguardless of them knowing about this or not. Big difference between the Qualifying Final and the Grand Final - Qualifying was played at night (first night final I think). The difference was Kernahan, he's on record as saying he had trouble playing at night (poor vision) and he was brilliant in a losing side that day. With more ball out of the middle I'm sure Kernahan and the other forwards could have delivered a winning score.

Kernahan kicked 7 in the GF what not good enough? Kernahan also I'm fairly sure kicked 5 in the QF.

Please keep in mind that Wallis a few years after 93 deliberately kneed Craig Turley testicles so hard that they bled. This is not the mark of a footballer - it is the mark of an animal...and nothing will persuade me to believe Essendon* justly won that grand final.

Oh... by the way. Wallis wasn't suspended or even reported for that action.
Some things never change regarding the tribunal and Essendon*.

Legs firmly crossed after that.

I'd have told Parkin. It wasn't as if it was anything he didn't already know.

This fax story was discussed last night at a Mike & Dan gala celebration, held to honour the 100th missed interview with the player not answering their phone.

But seriously, this is a great story that needs to be in the Blueseum.

Does anyone know the best way to contact David Parkin for some Blueseum-specific quotes?

I think most have missed the point.
Good to see that not much has changed though...

Coach sees a strategy that is just not working becuase of the oppositions counter measure, but we stick with it regardless and continue to get done!....

Molsey can you ask Parko, when you do the interview, at what stage he noticed that the Bomber midfielders were roving to Madden and the secondary Blue midfielder....

Sounds like a good do.

Surely the club would have his contact details. They could pass on a message to contact you. He's a fairly obliing bloke. My friend rag Hawks 5 years ago to get the answer to a trivia question. They put him throught to Parko who spend 15m trying to figure it out.
If you need a contact at carlton, i know a bloke

One of my saddest days and you bet I would have told David.
As far as I'm concerned Daniher could have shoved his legal action up his arse.
As for the dog "Wallis" he lost them the 99 Prelim because the took on Doggie and LOST! :-D

The fact that mongrel Wallis was the one who threw away the '99 Prelim was the best part of the result but it still doesn't make up for what he did in the '93 GF.

As many will recall Mil was in great form at the time and set up many forward moves, if Wallis hadn't perpetrated his thuggery I am sure we would already be sitting on 17 premierships and the Scum would be stuck on 15 - a much better indication of where the clubs should be

I hate wallis as much as anyone but he did what he was supposed to do. The problem was the response of the carlton players to Wallis ie none. I have already siad this but Dorotich in his final game wouldnt have let Wallis go unpunished.

I'm still in shock that a Carlton supporter wouldn't have gone straight to the club with it - surely the stuff of an urban myth?

Not only would I have gone to the club I would have framed the fax along with the CARLTON premiership poster.

But what would be the point in that?

From a strategic point of view, if the opponent uses a thug to take out one of your best players, trying to target the thug does nothing for you. All it would do would be to reduce the ability of the other team to take out another player, but usually the thug takes out only 1 player anyway (Hanna, Green in the 2000 GF).

If you were to implement a ruthless response, you'd send out someone to take out one of their most important players. For instance, you'd take out a player who was young and vulnerable back then such as Wanganeen or Hird.

Anything else would have been purely symbolic, and would have resulted in our players being further distracted.

Quite clearly Essendon* had the mental and physical ascendancy after the bump and no repsonse from the Carlton players. The mindset of the players was that they had Carlton by the throat and could go for the kill.
