Thats right I said it, I hope we dont win another game come last and recieve the following

A - Priority pick 1
B - Selection 2
C - A seasoned player with A grade talent after we have thrown money at him

Now I am gonna cop a hammering from many on this board , I KNOW THAT, but the only way we will improve is by injecting some A grade talent to our list and in the unfair system that is the AFL draft (why they dont scrap it and just have the salary cap is beyond me) it is the only way

IF YOU DISAGREE THATS FINE, IF YOU GET ABUSIVE THATS OK ALSO, HOWEVER I CANT SEE ANY OTHER WAY OUT OF THE MESS WE ARE IN AT THE MOMENT

Those that disagree with this need to suggest the other way by which we can get the talent we need into the side.

I cant think of any. Can anyone else?

Its not easy, but I can stomach winning another spoon.

Im surrounded by Collingwood suporters at work. One of them said that he is waiting to snare Fevola.

I said if we finish last then the filth wont be able to do a Nick Stevens to us with Fev.

Having said this, I think that Fev will sign (especially if he knows he will be picked up by us in the psd if we dont agree to the terms of another club)

If we finish stone motherless, then we will get another player who may not be the same type of player, but is of equivalent quality to Stevens as well as picks 1 and likely no 2 in the draft.

I'll go one further and say I hope we finish last with 4.5 wins and no other team wins less than 6 games.

I hate the system, but we have no other choice. We need picks 1 and 2 and the best uncontracted player. There's just no way around it.

So I was happy that Collingwood won today, and I hope they win next week and the week after.

Having 'won' a spoon already, I don't really care anymore about any supposed stigma. To be honest, playing the way we are and finishing 13th would be equally as depressing as playing the way we are and finishing 16th.

Really, who are we kidding? 12th is crap. 13th is lousy. 14th is terrible. 15th is awful. 16th is pathetic.

The only difference is, the AFL rewards you for finishing 16th. And they reward you big-time, especially if you do it badly enough.

Ask yourself this: were Richmond supporters happier after finishing 9th and going nowhere, or finishing 16th and on the rise?

Were the Melbourne supporters somehow scarred for life today because they picked up Brock McLean courtesy of the Priority Pick (I know that technically Sylvia was their PP, but without the priority they wouldn't have picked up McLean too).

I wouldn't be advocating this if we looked like a young, middle of the road team on the improve (like Geelong were a few years ago) but to be honest, we look terrible and in desperate need of talent.

Sad that it's come to this, but it surely has.

It'll still hurt though, John.

Nice logic, John, but there's only one thing: A couple of years ago, Geelong looked like anything but on the rise.

And I've got my hand up....

Sure it'll hurt WBY. It'll hurt like buggery.

But it hurts now. It hurts to see Carlton represented by a bunch of battlers, when I grew up seeing us represented by Doull, Jezza, Johnno, Ashman et al... and later Sticks, Braddles, SOS, Madden, Diesel.

It hurts to think of us being in the bottom quarter of the ladder for 4 years or more.

It hurts to be humiliated by teams who once weren't fit to play our reserves side.

It's going to hurt no matter which way we go forward.

Unfortunately.

We need to put the hurt we are all feeling aside and ask the hard question. - How do we get out of where we are right now.

I fully agree with th e finish last view (I hate it, but there isnt much of an alternative.)

A guy next to me today said that if we lose next week, its time to play the kids.

I said, you dont mean tanking games do you?

He said, no, just building for the future.

I hope Pagan does a bit of this kind of building soon.

BTW, if we sack Pagan, how much would the payout be?

I dont think we will do this and Id still keep him, but if we only win another 2 games - which I think is likely - there will be a lot more knives out.

I think getting rid of Pagan would be the wrong move though. He might have shortcomings, but he also does have plusses. I think we need his plusses more than we are getting hurt by his shortcomings.

I think that he is a good recruiter that has been hamstrung by our draft penalties.. We still need a fair bit of good recruiting so we still need Pagan.

Would any other coach do better with our list at present?? This is the acid test.

Im not altoegther upset by finishing last, because we cant discount the fact that we do have a fair bit of reasonable talent in the Bullants that is coming along nicely.

So picks 1 and 2 plus the best uncontracted player as well as a few young guys cracking it in the seniors in 2006 - This is a hell of a lot better base to launch from than in 2003 or 2004...

you'd prefer a coach with real quality? Rohde? Damian Drum? Roosy? Schwab? Mark Harvey?

Give me a @#$%&! break.

Unfortunately, Pagan's doing his best with what appears to be substandard cattle. He's polishing a turd this year. Unfortunately, he got it to a good shine preseason, and he's having a hard time buffing it up now the real season's started.

Disagree! Unfortunatly i think Pagan's time is over! He's been a great coach, but i think it's time to say goodbye. Much like Sheedy, much like Malthouse.

But.....in saying that? What other choices our out there! I know a few people suggest Gary Lyon, whom i rate, but could you see him coaching Carlton?

Are we defeatists or are you whistling in the dark?

If 9 rounds isnt a reality check then I dont know what is.

Yes, Pagan is polishing a turd this year. Loved that, describes our predicament to a tee.

Actually, If I was a Carlton hater I would want us to finish just outside of the eight but with a crap list that got lucky a second time around.

That way they would be guaranteed of always being able to hang shit on us year after year.

As opposed to Sheedy and Malthouse who are trying to put lipstick on one.

That would cost $1.5 million and you have to find another coach.

You got any candidates lined up?

yes, raw emotions against the current coach need to be balanced against certain contractual obligations.

Picks, priority picks etc etc... i would still prefer finishing second last or third last than last. The damage it does to morale, membership etc is too severe. We can't afford to keep losing in my opinion.

There are usually many good players you can pick up in the top 10 . Someone has mentioned it before, but most of Geelong's picks weren't in the top 10 but they have created a strong team with planning and cohesion.
