In a "As long as you're getting a root it doesn't matter if the chick's ugly" kinda way?

Whoever we get to coach us next I hope they have the capacity to talk about our players in a positive fashion.

Here's a quote from good old Den Den from an article on the CFC site:

http://carltonfc.com.au/Season2007/News/NewsArticle/tabid/4311/Default.aspx?newsId=43276

Quote:
"Nick Stevens' neck injury has had a domino effect on our young guys and it's about doing your apprenticeship," he said.

"I don't think it's got anything to do with youth, I think it's got to do with talent. You play against Carlton, who are our talented midfielders?

"You know if you can put Marc Murphy away you're going to have a better chance of beating the Blues."

What a great way to instill confidence in the rest of the team.

I agree. This is another disappointing aspect of Pagan. He provides no encouragement to the youngsters but continually brings them down in public. Be interesting to know how he talks to them behind the scenes. Our youth will not develop quickly under this fossil.

The first two comments seem to contradict each other... perhaps he's been paraphrased?

I'm going to listen through the conference (it's on the site).

The audio on the site seems to cut mid-way through the presser, and at that point I'd only heard the first comment, which was in reference to young layers like Murphy & Gibbs being targeted more in Stevens' absence.

EDIT: Looking at the second comment, perhaps the question asked of Denis was: "Do you feel Murphy & Gibbs were targeted because they're young & inexperienced?"

Just a thought.

Yes, perhaps he has been paraphrased, believe it or not, I am familiar with quoting in journalism.

However, I still find the last two comments unacceptable. It completely dismisses the likes of Carrazzo and Bentick who are busting their gut in the middle each week.

But would you rank them ahead of Murphy in terms of impact on the game?

Not in a million years. Sounds to me like he was asking a rhetorical question about who's next in line, rather than "is anyone here any good?"

That's got nothing to do with it.

AB and Carrots ARE our midfield whether they're ranked ahead of Murph or not.

I am drawing attention to the negative language he is using is regards to other members of the team.

Even if he has been paraphrased, don't you think he's been around long enough to not say that sort of stuff to the press?

So if the statement was thus:

"I don't think it's got anything to do with youth, I think it's got to do with talent. You play against Carlton, who are our more talented midfielders?"

You'd be happy?

Voss preparing for coaching
Quote:
Should he be offered, and accept, a full-time coaching position his contract stipulates that he advise Ten by October 2007.

While he has been touted as a potential replacement for Leigh Matthews in years to come, Voss has also been unofficially connected to Carlton — the club he supported as a child, and which sounded him out for an assistant's position last year — and the Kangaroos, who are looking to increase their profile in Queensland. Several other coaches — Kevin Sheedy, Neale Daniher and Chris Connolly — come out of contract at the end of 2007.

If Vossy's available then pay him whatever he wants. Just the guy to instill confidence in this young group.

Senior Coach: Mckenna with Ratts and Voss as assistants...how does that sound?

Sure hope Carrazzo and Bentick aren't as thin skinned as you blokes. Sure these guys are an important part of the midfield, but realistically it's Murph and Gibbo that have the talent. Given the other 2 came off the rookie list, I'm sure they understand where they sit in the scheme of things.

Do you think Woosha wouldn't point out the bleeding obvious in his side regarding Judd and Kerr?

Voss' commentary on 10 has been quite good; comfortable communicating the intracacies of the game to noobs like us - I'm sure he could do the same to his peers and colleagues at a footy club.

Commentary is incisive; good signing by Ch10. Make him an assistant next year.
