As I just posted in Recruitment, Justin Longmuir has just re-signed with Fremantle until 2009.

I think we really should be finding out who might be genuine ruck options post 2005 by at least playing Setanta and Bryan (Setanta while we still can).

I know the Justin Longmuir to Carlton idea was well supported by some on this board (me as well) but time to move on now.

Thoughts?

There's not much we can do this season about the problem. Bryan Batson DeLuca give us some back up to Barnaby and they will have another pre-season to build up and show us what they can do.

However IMO there is also a fair chance that we may also be able to pick up a young ruckman in the draft. There are only a couple of clubs who need more rucks on their list and that may give us a chance to big up a tall youngster with a later pick and concentrate on either key position or midfield with our first couple of picks.

So much for the "we've only recrited TLo so we can get JLo" theory!

Dean Brogan to do a Barnaby French? Reportedly unhappy with the other on the table.

This was raised in the recruitment section as well and yes I actually think he'd be a reasonable pickup. Hard working and presents well I think he'd be good solid aquisition if we could get him at a reasonable price. I think Port will want draft picks but you never know what they'll take as a combination of player/pick.

Keep persisting with Setanta! I have total faith in him that he could be our #1 ruckman sooner rather than later!
But we have to persist with him. If we bring him in for 15min and then drop him it's a total waste of our time and his.

seriously i could see this kid going home at years end!

we wont be able to fill all the holes in our wall this year anyway, so we will concentrate on other needs if we cant get a ruckman.

How bad is the Injury to French? I saw him limping into the dugout with a big bandage on his shin.

realistically, we arent going anywhere in 2005 and we have to go with a few kids anyway. Maybe Bryan could be in the team soon. I heard he was injured too though. Is this true??

I agree spf, I can't for the life of me understand why Setanta was dropped after the Richmond game he didn't do anything wrong & Bryan is a senior listed player who we used a national draft pick on (yes I know it was pick 73). Now surely this guy hasn't been picked up to boost the stocks of the bullants so give the kid a go & start putting some pressure on these senior blokes who seem to think that they are walk up starts each week.

Oh and by the way, Houlihan is a jib & belongs in the two's for his piss weak effort in the second qtr when he put the short step in on the flank in front of the legends stand, if he had of attacked the ball like he wanted it & taken the mark as he should have, instead of worrying about the Melbourne bloke coming the other way he would have strolled into an open goal. NOT GOOD ENOUGH, Scotland also needs a spell in the Bullies to remind him that he is at his second club & running out of chances.

who cares.

I'd keep the rucks we have and worry about that position last. French has a few good years. DeLuca and Bryan are big and can compete if needed.

I'd build every other position and THEN worry about the ruck
