Bower = 35 minutes

Kennedy= 69 minutes

possible 123 minutes.

Seems we are playing these guys from in form at the Bullants to out of form in the seniors, we cannot expect these guys to perform at the tempo required when they are interchanged and spend just 7 or 8 minutes a quarter on the ground.
Kennedy played the entire 30 or so minutes of the first quarter on the ground where he played well, in fact beat wakelin. He took 2 marks and kicked a goal and led away from the goals giving fevola a chance one on one.
rarely sighted after 1st quarter, and spent basically remainder wtching from the bench.

Change the coach and the kids will given far more oppertunity end of story.

The bench for pagan is to have players sit on the pine he was forced to select but dosnt want to play

Bower had a shocker. He got penalised for holding Pendlebury and gave away some silly frees. Then he didn't run with him when he went forward and so he got dragged. Looked like he was over awed. The game was still in the balance and IMO he seemed to be struggling.

Most of the kids struggle when they get put in the team unless they are a first round draft pick or the coach is pressured that he has to play them

They know one failure and they are back to the Ants and spend the rest of the game on the pine ....

Bower was way out of his depth and I dont reckon he'll make it. Ditto Hartlett. ( I hope I am wrong!)

Bentick and Carrazo are not good enough, although they do try hard.

We are miles off...miles.

1st sign we are clicking will be when we have a young KPP start to shine..

Cant see the light for the trees just yet.

That happens with kids who have played under 5 games... by the way do you know he had as many effective possesions as Lance.. and more than Kouta???

I don't know how we can be that far off when we lead the pies at half time, are still in it at three quarter time and then slip away in the last.

The pies beat Adelaide in Adelaide and pushed West Coast in Perth.

We just need some fine tuning, smarter coaching moves at times, and continual development of the young guys and we wil be there abouts.

Look i fully understand both sides of the argument i really do.

I want us to play all the kids. Hell i would love the side to read like this....

B: Anderson S.O'hAilpin Flint
HB: Benjamin Thornton Waite
C: Simpson Walker Grigg
HF: Edwards Kennedy Fisher
F: Betts Fevola Hartlett

R: Hampson, Murphy, Gibbs

Int: A. O'hAilpin
Russel
Blackwell
Austin

Emerg: Carrazzo, Bentick, Bower, Jackson, Young, Jacobs

But lets be realistic, you field a team like that and week in, week out, we are going to have the result that richmond had last week against Geelong.

How is this possibly good for the kids development and the confidence of the kids in the team.

Thats why you need the big bodies like Lance, Kouta, Stevo, Scotland, and their experience. I also agree with Synbad and feel that maybe the game has passed lance. I am a big fan of lance, but i dunno, things change, and lance isnt one of those things, unfortunately this great game we call Aussie Rules is one of those things and unless you have the ability to adapt to the changes in the game, the ability to adapt to tempo, rules and play changes, your time has gone.

Lance's debut was in an era where the game still was free running, the time of the key forwards was still in and there was much more space on the field. Not any more.

So yeah, i would love to drop the old fellas but how can you continue to play kids who arent quite there in teams that are already getting beaten and expect them to develop???

I've formed the opinion that Pagan is a very poor developer of young players. You look at the likes of Thomas and Ryder at other clubs being allowed to enjoy their footy and wonder what the kids at Carlton think when they're handed their tagging roles or given 3/4 a game on the bench.

I have been hoping that Pagan has a plan that will introduce kennedy slowly into AFL, giving him more and more game time. However nothing seems to change, kennedy looked like playing a big game watching his efforts in the 1st quater, then gets dragged!

For a start I am not sure why Bower was picked in the first place, his form didn't warrant it and this showed by his performance. JK on the other hand was constantly being ignored when he was presenting, not just in the forward line but making space in the middle also.

Many players being played out of position didn't help us but dropping Blackwell was a hideous move - this was reflected in his BOG for the Ant's (although some may argue this was why he played so well).

As for Gibbs, FFS rotate him on the ball more or at lease have him in the forward line - a forward line that should be more open!

The problem is Denis puts too much stock in our senior players.
Apart from Stevo & Scotto, collectively they are way inferior in quality & performance to most other teams.
Most other clubs' senior players can lift when their youngsters fade. Ours can't, but Denis will keep them out there trying to manufacture a role for them when they're stuffed.
Not enough faith in the young players.

Almost an entirely baseless theory, but given Blackwell's form didn't really warrant selection last round either, perhaps Denis and the MC are playing some sort of an elaborate form of the old tap-on-the-shoulder?

A showing of faith if you will. Not as strong as keeping them in the team, but hey.

It must be a pretty difficult team in which to develop as a youngster though. It's well-known that kids find it far easier to develop in sides that even if not winning games regularly are at least competitive with the odd win thrown in, than a side like Carlton over the past 4-5 years. It can't be good for development that our kids are continually exposed to all these losses, many of which have been by relatively big margins. I always wonder how players like Rosa, Priddis, and the other young players who are all the rage at the top sides would fare at Carlton, and conversely how players clearly low on confidence like Russell, Kennedy etc would go playing for West Coast. It just can't be possible that other clubs are always just picking better players than us. There's no reason to think ours shouldn't at least be competitive with those at other clubs but on the whole we just don't see as many good signs. I am no expert but part of it must be down to coaching, part of it due to a lack of senior leaders around the club who can take the pressure off, and of course part of it down to the fact that as at any club some youngsters just aren't good enough.

Exactly. Our kids are having all of their natural flair smacked out of them.

Time to go Denis.
