Hmmm...the Mrs wants to go there - but it's South Yarra. Personally - I think it would have done better had he put it in Carlton. Who's the chef? Is the owners' special 'Sausage Rolls'? Will it send Fev bankrupt? I think he's only doing it so Alex won't take him to the cleaners and not let him see the kids.

I think a trendy bar would have been more the go for Fev...but if I end up going - I'll write up a review - hopefully by tonight there is some braised magpie on the menu.

No offence to Fev, but given the choice of eating at a restaurant owned by a chef, or a restaurant owned by a football player and a hair stylist, I'll choose the chef's restaurant every time.

Depends on the restaurant's chef.

Hope you like your "special" chef's sauce JohnM.

Having had a couple of mates who are chefs, I can safely say that the likelihood of a chef jerking off in your creme brulee is vastly increased if said chef is working under an arsehole owner, who's far more interested in making a quick buck than he is in the quality of the food.

Chefs who run their own places, and who've sunk their savings into their own business, tend to avoid doing things like the 'special sauce' you speak of.

Anyway, life is far too short to be paranoid about unwanted bodily fluids in your soup.

TIP: never, however, send back a steak because it isn't 'cooked enough'. Trust me, you don't want to know.

Well, I ate breakfast today at a cafe which opened last weekend, and the chef is a good friend of mine, and he is the 1/2 owner. Should I just not go there ever again because the other 1/2 owner is an IT guy?

What if they were an IT guy and a footballer?

If the joint is owned by a chef or a hairdresser or a footballer or a motor mechanic, the issue is NOT who owns it, but what the service/food/experience is like.

Think about it before "choosing the chef's restaurant every time".

Very narrow minded.

Oh yeh, another @#$%&! Italian restaurant on Lygon st. Great idea!

There is actually a third partner involved and i believe they are the restaurantor types... people with hospitality experience.

Its my understanding (after speaking to Fev), that it will act as a groovey bar as well.

I live in South Yarra and look forward to trying another local joint. Good on him for havin the balls to give it a go.

Good for you! But balls - I think Alex has Fev's balls...did you see any Rocky Mountain Oysters on the menu? Perhaps they were listed as Narre Warren Oysters - maybe the 'Tenergroin'?...'Swinging Steak'?

Food Reviews I've heard so far - food good; ...enjoyable atmosphere - but not a cheap night by any stretch of the imagination. Good luck to them - but i'll give it 18 months tops.

Thats generous, i give it 12. Newbies, unless backed by someone who has A) solid foodies background or B) People who want to clean their cash, struggle.

But saying that, good on then for given it a go. Hope it does well for them
