I can't access that site (drafter).

Any reason/ideas?

No idea mate. The link works when I click it.
Try typing it into the address bar but it should work.

well people go on about how we drafted badly with high picks.

But didn't Chatfield, Vance, Massie & Livingston all have injuries problems............without that you never know.

It is not a case of either / or, but barring penalities, we should have all.

Simpson + Fisher

We are better off.

No point in crying over spilt milk.

I am as unhappy with our dismal recruiting as anyone, but in effect we have gone back to year zero. If we added Goddard, Wells and McLean we would be a much better side, but if we had got them, it is likely we would have won a few more games in the last two years and would have missed out on Murphy Kennedy Gibbs and Hampson. In a few years they may be (better be) four stars. We should have learnt our lesson well and truely, so it is really up to our recruiting guys, if they are
better at it than the other clubs we might rise quickly, if not, we may be Richmond. Chances are we will have a few more good picks over the next few years.

I am pretty sick of hearing how hard recruiting is. Yes it is hard, for everyone. That doesn't mean it is okay to be bad at it, or worse than most other clubs. In three years we will get a real sense on how good we have been at it over the last few years. Regradless of who the coach is, our recruiting will dictate whether the next flag challenge is in 2010 or 2020

There are a lot of Clubs whingeing about their recruiting....or lack of it this year.....the most I can recall.

Winning games is the only way to stop it.

Yeah....Sporn at 11 was a shock for everyone.....recruiters included in 2000.....Daniel Kerr at 18 in the same draft would've been OK....

put it this way, if we were to only get 2 number 1 picks over the journey, I'm glad its Murphy and Gibbs and not Goddard and DeLedio

as good as those 2 are, Murphy and Gibbs are magic.....

Goddard and DeLedio might have got us over the line for a few more wins and stopped us getting Murphy and Gibbs

I reckon we tanked the exact right years.......

Hasn't this been done to death already?

Yeah we [REDACTED] up in 2000 and it's a pointless exercise by saying "hey look who was drafted after Sporn and Wiggo, we should have nabbed them"

Well, we didn't. It's unfortunate, but that's life and drafting.

I'd prefer to focus on the ones that we did get right. Guys like Fisher and Simpson, who were plucked with late picks, have turned out to be excellent players so far. Especially Simpson.

Yeah we flower up in 2000 and it's a pointless exercise by saying "hey look who was drafted after Sporn and Wiggo, we should have nabbed them"

The problem was that this was about the only year our club decided to go for youth in a draft and we flowered it up big time - so then we went back to usual form and traded away Round 1 and 2 draft picks for Corey McKernan etc - this just exacerbated the problem - and I tell you what if it wasn't for the jewels of Simpson and Fisher in 2002 - we would be a dead set certainty for Priority Picks this year  - instead of having to work the system for it. 8)

I agree, Aggers.

But Burgoyne, Harris, Coughlan etc etc could have turned out to be absolute duds.

These days it's a bit easier to sort out the shit from the gold, but back then Wiggins, Livo and Sporn were all highly rated. Unfortunately, they didn't turn out to be the players we'd hoped they would be, but I believe they were taken where they should have been.

what a ridiculous post!!!!!!!!!!!!! This topic has been covered at least 100 times on this site.
Retrospective recruiting is a waste of time we can al look back and find mistakes we recruited horribly for about 5-10 years however we have also had some good picks along the way and our use of rookie players has been v.good.

Get over past drafts, there is nothing that can be done about you learn from your mistakes and move on. Recruiting is not an exact science there is always risk involved!!

Get over it!!!!!!!!

This should be compulsory reading for everyone who thinks picking a potential champion player thru the draft is an exact science.

He coaches the filth but he makes sense.

Time to move on.....2000 drove me crazy, the club stuffed up, but its done and dusted.
If we want to do some comparisons then lets stick to the present.....my concerns are our present cop of youngsters ...did we get them all right and learn from 2000?....

what we should be doing is having a guy on the payroll who just watches WAFL matches (including the ressies) so we can pick off these gems that West Coast are hiding ......
