We have to go a kid. We are about development, not short term solutions i thought?
The question is putting a kid in before he is ready, is that that good for their long term development? The is especially true for ruck.
It is a tough decision.
Yep, it is a fair concern. From afar, it looks like Aisake and Setanta have different personalities. If Santy runs at a brick wall and hurts himself, he'd pick himself up and keep on trying until he breaks through. Aisake seems to be more introverted and may be somewhat less resilient. His self-confidence might be hurt by a poor display.
By the way, the above is a relative thing. I'm sure that Aisake has already shown massive determination and resilience to move to Australia and take up an alien game. And having Santy there to support him is invaluable. But let's assume he'll be right because his brother was.
Scott Burns on radio commented about the modern trend to play youngsters because of the senior team's needs before their ready physically or mentally. He said that both Buckley and he had waited until they were about 20 to debut. He said that some kids are played too early, and they lose the confidence of their teammates and coaches as a result and never get another chance. He said he was glad that he wasn't played early as it might have resulted in him missing out on the career he has since had.
But we have to have confidence in the footy department. If Aisake is promoted, then we have to take that as meaning that the coaches think Aisake can cope with senior games. If he isn't, then we have to trust that this means that Aisake will benefit much more from rucking at the Bullants at this stage.
Apparently, the coaching panel sees Jacobs as being a more likely promotion given his time as a ruckman at SANFL level and the years of junior development he's had.
