I was comparing both teams,i thought the kangaroos list was crap but looking at their team to ours and why they seem to do o.k,this is the reason.

Kangaroos Round 1 picks

1 Adam Simpson Games: 248 1993 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Kangaroos) No. 14 overall.31 years old 185cm

2 Shannon Grant Games: 203 58 Sydney 1994 National AFL Draft priority selection (Sydney) No. 3 overall; 1997 National AFL Draft traded by Sydney for Wayne Schwass. 30 years old 180cm

3 Shannon Watt Games: 114 1997 National AFL Draft 1st round selection 2 (Kangaroos) No. 14 26 years old/ 27 in November 193cm

5 Daniel Harris Games: 97 2000 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Kangaroos) No. 14 overall. 25 years old 180cm

6 Leigh Brown Games: 93 63 Freo 1999 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Fremantle) No. 5 2002 National AFL Draft traded to Kangaroos 25 years old 194cm

7 David Hale Games: 62 2001 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Kangaroos) No. 7 overall. 23 years old 201cm

8 Hamish McIntosh Games: 24 2002 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Kangaroos) No. 9 overall. 23 in September 203cm

9 Daniel Wells Games: 90 2002 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Kangaroos) No. 2 22 years old 180cm

10 Lachlan Hansen Games: 1 2006 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Kangaroos) No. 3 Will Be 19 years old and a future star expected 196cm

11 David Trotter Games: 7 2003 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Kangaroos) No. 9 overall. 21 years old 186cm

12 Ed Lower Games: 4 2005 NAB AFL Rookie Draft 1st round selection (Kangaroos) No. 10 overall 20 years old 186cm

Carlton Round 1 picks

1 Bryce Gibbs Games 6 National AFL Draft 1st round selection 2006 draft 18 years old

2 Marc Murphy Games 19 National AFL Draft 1st round selection 2005 draft 19 years old

3 Josh Kennedy Games 15 National AFL Draft 1st round selection 2005 draft 19 years old

4 Jordan Russell Games 19 National AFL Draft 1st round selection 2004 draft 20 years old

5 Andrew Walker Games 61 National AFL Draft 1st round selection 2003 draft 21 years old

6 Simon Wiggins Games 81 National AFL Draft 1st round selection 2000 draft 24 years old

Before The AFL Draft

Kangaroos

1 Glenn Archer Games: 289 Recruited to the Kangaroos from their VMFL zone before the national draft like Koutafides 34 years old 182cm

Carlton

1 Anthony Koutoufides Games 267 Carlton Reserves/Colts before 1990.

Great Pick Kangaroos or whatever they originally

1 Nathan Thompson Games: 45 119 Hawthorn 1997 National AFL Draft 7th round selection (Hawthorn) No. 82. 2004 National AFL Draft trade by Hawthorn 29 years old 194cm

2 Brent Harvey Games: 222 1995 National AFL Draft 3rd round selection (Kangaroos) No. 47 overall. 29 years old 172 cm

Carlton

1 Brad Fisher Games 55 National AFL Draft 7th round selection 2002 number 72 draft 23 year old

2 Ryan Houilhan Games 142 National AFL Draft 7th round selection 1999 number 73 draft 25 year old

3 Brendan Fevola Games 129 National AFL Draft 7th round selection 1998 number 38 26 year old

No One Picked in National Draft

Kangaroos

1 Leigh Harding Games: 89 Rookie Elevation 2001. 26 years old 180cm

2 Michael Firrito Games: 64 Rookie Elevation 2003 not picked in draft 23 years/24 in November 190cm

Carlton

1 Adam Bentick Games 40 Promoted Rookie 2005 list 21 year old
2 Andrew Carrazzo Games 47 Promoted Rookie 2005 list 23 year old
3 Brett Thornton Games 97 Promoted Rookie 2003 list 23 year old

Looking at this list, they have a lot of experience with their round 1 picks, they beat us easily at the moment only 2 are still to show something David Trotter and Ed lower.

Archer takes the points over Koutafides while later picks i think we are better maybe and rookies about the same or we might beat them with Thornton.

Another difference with them and us they still have a good midfield with Simpson,Grant,Harvey,Wells and Harris but when those 3 players go they should slide, their defence with Sinclair and Archer leaving will test them and their forwards with Thompson shouldn't harm them if he quits as they have a few good small forwards and Lachlan Hansen but their Ruck Division will be one of the best if not the best McIntosh and Hale, pity we couldn't target one of them.

Oh yeh i thought Simon Wiggins was a second round selection, did we have 2 when we drafted Luke Livingston?

Did I ever mention we should have recruited Daniel Harris at pick 11?.....

re: Kangas...wouldnt get too carried away with them....their mainstays are Grant, Harvey and Simpson and they have been firing.
When they retire along with Archer they will bottom out quicker than a Russian Nuclear Sub....

Aaron Edwards has been a handy pick up....

Livo and Wiggins were touted as early selections and indeed they were. Sporn not so much. It's not like we deliberately went out to pick utter gumbys, but with 7 years hindsight that's what we did.

Although the three picks between Sporn and Wiggo make for depressing reading:
12 - Shaun Burgoyne
13 - Ashley McGrath
14 - Daniel Harris

:(

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but I reckon he's been fairly ordinary.

Nice work Rambo

Our kids do look classier.

Remembering what their kids looked like at the same age as ours, and they make some names of players mentioned not on your (Rambo's list) who are on our list good reading:

Aisake
Hampson
Jacobs
Grigg
Hartlett
Bower
Jamieson
Benjamin
Anderson
Austin
Edwards
Jackson
Blackwell

Now we all know that at least 7 of those 13 players are going to play finals for us, if not all.

Pick 18 in the 2000 draft is depressing.

Imagine Walker, Burgoyne, Kerr, Murphy, K.Cornes, Cassisi and Gibbs playing in the one midfield.

Chad and Kane Cornes could have been ours and it shits to me to tears that we overlooked two Glenelg players. :x

And both landed at Port.

North's kids are terrible. 8)

Yeh i didn't put those guys on the list on the list as they haven't played yet or have played a little,i also messed up with Kangaroos Ed Lower Games: 4 2005 NAB AFL Rookie Draft,he should be on the rookies.

Those guys you mention look good on paper but will have to wait a few seasons to see if they have been good picks.
