It took Carlton over 23 years to win 1938 flag and 21 years to win 1968 flag and that was the VFL,with the AFL being twice as hard and all the loss of draft picks and the worst history of the club, this decade our last flag was 1995 and looking at those both tough times our next flag could be year 2013 if we take 19 years.23,21,19.

So finals in year 2009 or 2010.

Yeh that true some won't be there but i just made a list of players that could be with their rather young age even Nick Stevens could be in it, he would be only 33 if he was still fit enough and probably ending his last season.

i wanna see a photo of that flag side....
David parkin will be coach after Denis Pagan leaving the year before, lol.

The next world war has already begun.

But because people have completely forgotten about what causes adversaries to become caught up in wars, the dependancy on the West on oil, the aims of Islam and also what happens when Iran gets their hands on a nuclear bomb - you just think that the current conflict will only be small and regional and it will all end with the Iranians and Iraquis coming to their senses rejecting islamic fundmentalism and adopting modern attitudes - but this doesnt happen - to think it will - is a big mistake.

Your politicians are making this mistake right now - and they are heading towards letting everyone down in an extremely bad way. Your ignorance is being taken advantage of in a cynical and tragic way.

Denis Pagan has the right ideas for probably 80 percent of the way towards a premiership - but the last 20% involve some rather critical issues. He doesnt mean to do the wrong thing or anything - it is just the way he is...

Pagans coaching style is old school - involving the use of control and discipline in ways that people dont resond to very well at all these days.

This is why you read of people here saying how the players have every bit of creativity wrung out of them.

Another thing about Pagan that is problematic is a one dimensional game plan - not suited to the modern game.

These things will appear to many in 2007 to be serious impediments to Carlton moving forward - the only way to change this is to replace the coach...

A great deal of player creativity and talent that is at the moment lying there unused and is effectively being suppressed - will be released when Denis has gone.

This will be very apparent during a future season under a new coach - it will look like Carlton has suddenly re emerged from no where - but all it will be is the release of things that have been suppressed

Blueman, even if some of the members on this site agree with your political views, this is a footy forum so please ease up!

I think most of us agree with you on the coach. This year seems to be a small improvement in one aspect (allowing a more attacking style of play) but otherwise he is definitely slow to adapt to new methods and reacts slowely when the plan doesnt work on match day.

Plus I agree that he has an old school way of dealing with players. Thinking back a few years, to an old dog that managed to find some new tricks - D.Parkin was revolutionary when he was one of the instigators of a leadership group, which allowed senior players to become more involved in decision making regarding game plans and style of play. I recall him empowering the backmen in the 1995 era to figure out their own ways of countering the defensive zones that were reducing the effectiveness of kick outs. Ang, Dean, SOS, et al, got together and worked out some very effective ways to beat the zone. Empowered employees who have some level of autonomy are often more satisfied and productive employees. But a balance is definiitely required. As a boss, you need the respect of your staff while giving them a say. Unfortauntely when WB took over he didnt have the right balance. He didnt have the balls to stand up to some of the senior players that he admired so much.

I think finals by 2009 and contention for premierships soon after is realistic. It has to be, given that we still probably need Fev playing to have a chance.
