I well remember the day........

The year was 1968, my first day at the footy with Dad. Carlton versus Collingwood at Princes Park.

I could see the excitement and anticipation on his face. The train ride in enabled him to reflect on the glory days of the 1940’s, in particular ’45 and ’47.

“Son, I remember the day when I went to the footy with my Dad. Carlton Vs South Melbourne – the Bloodbath Grand Final…..we nearly got into a fight if I recall…..â€

Dannyboy, the gauntlet has been thrown down! You have a challenger!

Laguna, awesome stuff. I'm looking forward to passing on the same sorts of memories and passions to future generations.....

not so sure about Ragsy Goold kicking like that, but gee he was good to watch and would have been up there for the Norm Smith in 68 if they had it then.

yeah melbelle my dad has done well too, he missed 1945 but saw 1938, so not only has he seen 10, he's seen us beat the bombers by less than a goal twice and he's also seen us put the pies out of (or into) their misery 4 times. We barrack for a great team don't we!

great stuff Laguna except Ragsy's drop kicks from the goal square. I can't remember that, always remember ragsy's funny drop of the ball for his drop punts, maybe that's what you're remembering.

My dad saw all the above plus the 1938 (as an 11 year old).

I had to endure the long drought as a kid until I saw 68 GF as a 19yr old.
68 to 87....golden years. Are we building to another great era? I think we certainly have the spirit and are just a few recruits away from being a successful side long term again.

soory L I thought you meant he was kicking out using drop kicks - In thoise days the fullback kicked out - Maybe Vin sometimes and yes he could drop kick a country mile!

Ahh the drop kick, its like, its like a Monet, we might never see their like again but those of us who did, well we'll take the joy of that to the grave with us.


There is nothing sweeter than a goal kicked from a drop kick. It inspires you!

This might sound extreme in the context of alleged sexual assault, drunken violence and a drug trafficking charge...

We never missed training in those days.

Jezza's only weakness was the length of his kicks,and Ian Robertson used to try and improve his drop kicking to no avail; Robertson being a magnificent kick.

Does anyone remember the trouble Jezza had kicking his 100th. goal at the MCG? He couldn't make the distance 3 or 4 times; making for a painful period of footy till he kicked it at last.

It seems incongruous talking of Jezza with a weakness; shame on me!
