Any objections to Jim Marchbank as the next past player of the week?

I don't know if this is the place to debate this,

but it has always seemed to me that 1981 is almost the least celebrated of all our more modern Premierships. '68 was a drought breaker, '70 was just fabulous, '72 we weren't expected to win, '79 there was Wayne Harmes, '82 involved Helen Demeiko (can't spell), and '95 we were just supreme.

The only other one I can remember which sort of almost compares to it as a 'ho-hum' achievement was 1987.

Anyway - I was only 6 in 1981 and can't remember the game at all (or the season - I started barracking for Carlton in 1982). So my question: is it an accurate statement to say that this is one of our least celebrated premierships? Or is that a statement based on pure ignorance?

I'd say pure ignorance Molly, I was nine at the time and can tell you that to beat Collingwood AGAIN was great.

Generally speaking though, the club had gone through a rough patch at the end of 79 beginning of 80 - you must remember that the president and the coach/club icon had just left and we were left with a stuttering Percy Jones at the helm.

So in context I think 81 was huge, new coach (Parko) and a team that rebounded from the previous years disapointment.

I think I probably covered that game in the Scrapbook?.....if not I've got all of the match reports; Newspaper and Magazines both....it's just a case of me doing a search thru all of my stuff as soon as I get a chance.

Of all the players in our history, the top 3 most reviewed player biographies in the Blueseum are:

1. Stephen Silvagni
2. Marc Murphy
3. Stephen Kernahan

Well, I found that interesting anyway.

BTW, anyone with the 1981 Grand Final on DVD or tape in Melbourne (preferably City or Inner West) please PM me for a quick pick-up, game review for the Blueseum and return.

Turning point of the game was deep in to time on during the 3rd quarter - Carlton was 21 points down and things were looking grim. 2 late goals from brilliant crumbing by Jimmy Buckley and Rod Ashman got us to within 9 points at 3/4 time.

David Parkin - went out with a "we have got them on the ropes they're tired we can run all over them message" and the rest is history.

HEY guys look what I just learnt how to do!! (check out the bottom of the page)

Please do not put any YouTube videos that would have copyright concerns on the site using this technique.

Supporter produced videos like this one are OK for the time being, nice to know we have the capability to embed videos like these when the site is handed over and proper copyright protocols can be followed.

Look forward to a couple of ANZAC related items on the site in the next week.

Does anyone have any objections to Jim Pender being the next Past Player of the Week?

Just had a thought.

What about a "where are they now" page - could have the players name and a brief descriptionof what they are up to nowadays.

That one has been discussed before around the board room table (barstool) at Blueseum HQ (the pub).

That idea will be a goer when we have a bit more to do with the Past Players Association. Hopefully that will begin to happen after handover.

In the MX yesterday there was a little snippet on McKernan, Franchina and 1 other (Eccles) forming a named on-ball combination for a team in the DVFL.

Can anyone help with the third player and the DVFL Club they are all at? I was thinking of adding it to the Blueseum for interest.

Did anyone notice on Foxtel that the commentators said that King Richard shed a tear or two in his pre-game speech about the CFC players who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Well that speech was inspired by the Blueseum's own Pat's Fitztrick!!

Well done!! :-D :-D
