Hard to kick a bag when the ball is 100m away for most of the match.
Glass had a free ride today.

Cons:
-Most kicks landed 5m from the target
-No one stood up
-It shows how dependent we are on Stevens
-Need so much more from EDDIE. His the guy that gives us a spark when desperately needed or kicks goals of the year. Not evedent today.
-Houlihan

Pros:
Ando had a good debut
Lappin and Fisher

Have to agree with the calls on Waite. Gee he appears to be a very unintelligent player sometimes. The late spoil on Hunter was purely dumb dumb dumb!!!

Thats called Paga s Paddock- Whats wrong with you its the only way to play football that stands up in finals

Pagan has to bite the bullet and make the move

Fev to CHF - Lance and Kennedy to FF - This bombing it to the hot spot or trying ot hit Fev in a 2to 3 on 1 is not working .

Bring Fev into the Game allow Lance to hide at FF and allow Kennedy the chance to lead from the pocket or bust the pack .

there are not to many sides that would allow what Essedon did last week

Pro: It wasn't on FTA...

Fevola WASN'T given a bath by Glass, the ball barely made it to Fev for Glass to give him a bath.

Pro: Santy is developing well, and that's giving Thornton a lot of leeway to create off HB, and T-bird is starting to look the player we thought he would turn out to be.

Pro's - when the game was lost after the first 10 minutes Denis kept the kids on the superstars and didn't resort to flooding - Put it into perspective - reigning premiers v wooden spooners. I like that he didn't go negative.

Con's - Tantinople

Pros
The side never gave up. This side has a bit of steel and just keeep putting in and chipping away. Out bodied and out classed.
Gibbs played well on Wirrpanda and I thought really closed him down after he got away on Houlihan in the first quarter.
Anderson debut.
Most of the backline particularly Setanta on Lynch and Thornton on a number of different forwards and Scotland on the half back flank.

Cons,
Our onballers were out muscled and out played.
Lance on Hansen was not mobile enough. Played a lot better but gets lost against a running forward.
Houlihan in the back pocket against Wirrpanda.
The centre square set up in the first quarter. Gibbs Murphy and Simpson againsy Judd Kerr and Braun. 100 game and premiership players against kids. Give them another 3 seasons and the blues boys will match up better.

Not too pissed off about the match...just outgunned by seasoned premiership players with far stronger bodies & developed skills all day. We didn't drop our heads as we may have in the past. They will learn heaps from games like that!

Well done to Ando for getting a few touches & coming through OK, would have been an amazing experience for the bloke.

Pros

Defensive efforts of Setanta, Thornton and Gibbs
Lappin given real game time to consolidate his position in the starting line up
Fisher and Fevs looked dangerous despite limited opportunities
Anderson made a few errrors but really liked what I saw. This kid covered more space in the one game than Lance will cover in all ofthe 22 rounds this year. Not overawed by the occasion, showed good intensity on the ball and will hopefully replace Houlihan down back.
Walker- am confident in saying he has moved up to he next level. In the past he would undo all his hard work with costly turnovers. His kicking under prssure and poise when moved into the middle suggests to me that he is ready to dominate.
Wiggins found out to be out of his depth. It is a pro because finally he will get dropped and free up a position for a player with talent at the AFL level.

Cons

Midfield smashed despite winning the clearances. Our inability to match teams in uncontested play with not enough running into space on our part coupled with the inability to to hit each other on the chest from 15 metres makes us have to earn every single goal whilst concede easy ones.

We are two to three quality midfielders short of being competitive. Bentick looked out of his depth and he lacks a hurt factor in his disposal.
Kade has gone backwards this year , unless ous fans overatted him to begin with.

Tackling. Far too many ineffective tackles did not restrict their ability to handball out of trouble. Got to learn to pin the arms.

Disposal. Unless we deliberately practice the art of kicking a grubber during practice why do we aim our passes for their ankles.

In contests we go to ground way too often. West Coast players tended to stay on their feet and with ease get the ball out to advantage whilst would be foiled in our attempts at getting the ball out.

Match ups. Whitnall on Hansen. Made him look like a speedster even in the wet. Houla on Wiripunda. Why play a soctc*ck, who is unable or unwilling to stick by his man or chase him. Wiripunda did all the damage in th first quarter. Murphy on Judd. Murphy as a tagger took away our only quality midfielder.

Cain Ackland. If he is going to continue being a fringe player we might as well throw in Aisake ot Hampson to gain experience. Cain has not shown any physical presence thus far.
Waite one of the most overrated players at Carlton. Should expect greater consistency from him now. Must also learn to stay on his feet.

I was at the game today:

Pros
- Setanta and Thornton played well in defence.
- Fisher's quality long goal from a free kick. His kicking has improved a lot.
- Gibbs was very composed down back in defence.
- Lappin and Scotland were probably our best two players (not necessarily a positive).
- Anderson got a couple of nice touches in the first half.

Cons
- Waite. Really needs to be played in defence as lacks the polish and footy smarts to be a forward.
- Our reliance on Nick Stevens was shown up badly today.
- We clearly need another goal kicking forward ala Nathan Brown/Ryan O'Keefe/Alan Didak/Michael O'Loughlin. When Fev doesn't kick a bag we aren't competitive.

Pros:-

- Setanta was probably among our best.
- Lappin's put 2 x decent games together.
- We did well with the centre clearances late in the 2nd.
- Walker looked to be enjoying himself in the midfield and did a few nice moves.

Cons:-

TO MANY TO MENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- 4 years on and we're still having to put up with 10+goal thumpings every 2nd week.

- Gibbs on Wirrapunda, i wasn't happy with that one. i would have moved him into the centre,...............but Gibbs did well. LOVED that spoil in the 3rd.

- DROP KENNEDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Either move Fev to CHF & Drop Kennedy to the gaol square or send him to the Bullants where the game-style is one that will actually utilise his potential!
DID NOT like the move of him to the ruck in the 3rd.

- Wiggens is trying, but sadly i don't think he's up to it.

-FLOODING............................WHY SO MUCH F**KING FLOODING! F**K SAKE DENIS! I was seriously starting to think we may have moved on from that negative crap style of football!

- Umpires.................yet again! WTF?

- Drew Banfield as boundry rider.................what a knob!

- Fev's report..................crock of shit, but stupid from Fev.

The game was pretty much a whole pro for me.

We missed targets consistently, and missed some very gettable goals. The Eagles hit their targets and kicked the goals. We were up against the best in the competition who were more physically mature then us and playing in their own backyard. In previous seasons we would have been done by 100 points playing this badly. We were never going to win it, but even taking our opportunities in front of goal we may have go within 30-40 points. Increase the quality of disposal and we'd have got even closer.

Some good signs from the kids playing the best team in the comp. Based on that performance I think we'll beat a few teams this year.

Pro's: Drew Banfield's evident downs syndrome afflicition. His boundary riding reports......disgraceful, yet hilarious.

Pros:
- Setanta. Competitive against very good forwards and cleans up decent forwards - has come a long, long, long..... way
- 1AW. General play should run through this man right here. Probably the only one who didn't look phased when up against Judd. When both were going for a mark, Walker was a good foot higher.

Cons:
- Further agree, Waite has been one of the constant cons these four rounds. As Denis would say, he'll wake up at 30 and wonder where his football career went.

Pros Carlos, Gibbs and Thornton in defence

Lappin great game but would like it coming from a younger player
They never gave up
Eagles would have beaten anyone. They are awesome. Imagine if Cousins was off the pills
Simpson has his limitations but I thought he had his best game for the year yesterday.

Cons
Waite must play in defence
Whitnall Stats are misleading. He is a liability.
Hartlett cant get a game
Anderson Not ready for senior footy. No disrespect to the kid but why was he selected ahead of Bower
Midfield slaughtered. Simply dont get enough ball
Houlihan stats misleading again
How do we move ahead when Houlihan and Whitnall get a game
Ackland and Cloke We need more mobility with our big men
Fevola on report Should get off but still silly.Thats Fev.

The biggest down side is not having Nick Stevens for the rest of the year. Who is going to take his place?

CONS:

Waite's goal from 1m out given a point. On slow replay and zoomed he does make contact. This would have made the margin less than 20pts. They kicked a goal 2min later. 12 point turnaround.

Murphy misses a sitter from 25m out 45 angle.

Waite misses a set shot sitter.

Murphy misses another gettable shot.

All in the 3rd Q.

Murphy misses a sitter in the 4th.

Houlahan's countless handballs straight up in the air when getting crunched in a tackle - and not looking for an team mate to feed off to. Really poor.
---

It most definitely was not our day. Our boys play on confidence to stay with sides like WC. Miss goals early and the confidence is shot.
