Is it possible to get injured or young players to ring up these members? I know that if I was undecided (I bought my membership months ago so I could get a vote :-D ), having a player ring me would make it much harder to say no. Let's face it, at this stage, it is unlikely people have just forgotten - they are obviously unlikely to re-sign as a member... They need a bit of extra pressure.

Maybe get the Moran family to ring up all the lapsed members?

And make them an offer they can't refuse?

Given King Dick is a generous kinda bloke, how about he stumps up for every lapsed member and buys them all a silver membership?

Record membership, here we come!

Now we're talking...

Seriously, can't speak for them this year, but in the past the people who ring you and ask you to join up are hopeless... I remember the story of a friend who had every intention of buying a membership asked them to sell it to him... they had no idea. As I said, hopeless.

Get injured players, otherwise, get volunteers rather than through a company who couldn't care about the product.

Well said LL.

If the club can't see the advantage of passion, then they lack the passion to achieve our potential.

Yes Carlton is a business, but let me remind the board, it is a family business. We carltonians are part of the Carlton family.

A telemarketing Company is not family...they deal in numbers, not human beings. Ring Ring... Yes/ No?...next...Ring Ring...Yes/No?...next...
That is not what I consider family talk!

Furthermore, a Collingwood suporting telemarketer will never have passion and enthusiasm in his/her voice when selling Carlton memberships. Passion and enthusiasm are powerful ingredients in the sales process.

If we are to move hearts and minds of 6500 lapsed members, then we must start by pulling at their heart strings. An obscure telemarketer is not going to do that, players and supporters can...they have the advantage of speaking the same language.

Wake up board, and lets do all things Carlton passionately!

2003: 30571
2004: 30112
2005: 31265
2006: 25501
2007: 31015

Just dropped behind 2005 though having an interstate match on the weekend would have slowed sales over the last few days.

Record is 33,525 in 2003 followed by 33, 354 in 2005.

Hey BI, you're poking a stick at the wrong fella! Bondi has been a passionate Blues Member/Supporter for almost as long as you are old.

During his time in Sin City, he has been responsible for a bunch of fundraising functions and travels around the country promoting the club. One of the first to put his hand in his pocket and always is prepared to roll his sleeves up. If he says "we", take it on face value!

From what I understand quite a few people offered to man the phones but the club opted to go with a telemarketing company.

So we need about 53 to sign up every day to get to 35,000.

Why 53 days?

Does the tally close off in about 2 months? Midseason break? I mean as far as the AFL is concerned? or, is that the milestone date for the target set by the club?

If the current record is 31,436

and GWS quoted

Quote:
Record is 33,525 in 2003

then, assuming numbers are correct, that implies that the club's tolls continue clocking members well after the AFL closes off the year.

I wonder why the AFL would do that and not just keep a running annual tally?

Makes no sense to me.

But then again it may just me.

AFAIK memberships close off around 30th June.

That would mean the club would need to average 53 members signing on each day until then to get to around 35,000.

Thought it was pretty clear.
