Merciblue...you hit the nail on the head with the nickname...
"Monga" sums it up really....and has been the one of choice for quite a while

Best thing about it is you tell the Bummers fans around you at the footy that it's his nickname (like you're in awe of him  ...and half of them start shouting it when he gets a mark/goal....beautiful to watch as they obviously have no idea

I can't stand lloyd, but he is 2 years older than Fev and has kicked 400 goals more, even haveing missed a full season. Not a bad player, good captain but shithead of a guy

Lloyd played a forward pocket's game, picking up cheap goals by hanging off the back of the pack.

He's always reminded me of Cletus the slack jawed yokel.

History will show Lloyd as a better full forward; more professional, kicked more goals, and was ready to play right from the get-go.

As we all know, Fev took a while to get going and has had a few mental blocks in between.

What history may not show is Fev's rewriting of the Full Forward role, his almost single-handed leadership in the forward line and the faith he gives the boys as a target in our darkest hours from 2003 onwards.

Fev is a gun and just the most fantastic Blue to watch.

Agreed.

Intersting watching Hirdy on Footy Classified last Mon talking about Lloyd as a captain. Said that the team lost its way in 2005 with Murphy, Zantuck and Stupido all flouting team rules and acting unprofessionally (What a shame we didnt get Zantuck btw) while Hirdy was captain and he didnt do much to stop them. Said that Lloyd is a more hands on captain. Takes players to task if they don't operate within team guidelines and demands high standards from them all. Wouldnt mind that at Carlton, but he can do it because of the way he lives his life and prepares for his footy

Does Matthew Lloyd have a brain?

He does, but it's on rotation with his missus. I guess she won the game of dip dip deadshit on Saturday and Monga had to go without.

good captain my arse, a good captain wouldn't be rubbing it in to opposition players with the job (winning the game) still to be done. Imagine if his teamates followed his example. Lets keep in mind when comparing him and fev that in Monga's early years he had superb delivery to him - Fev has had the complete opposite.

Lloyd is a freak (in a bad way).

This is still my favourite Lloyd article, gives a bit of insight into what makes harry highpants click:

Another bloke seemingly not averse to dishing out some dirt is Simon Lloyd, the brother of Essendon* champion Matthew Lloyd. Simon told a "We Are Family" segment on SEN's Run Home program this week that his famous sibling was a "clean freak". Simon said not only does Matthew refuse to eat should anyone cough in the kitchen, but at birthday time, he won't let anyone blow out the candles. Instead, "he claps them out". Asked if he was fair dinkum about this, Simon replied: "Yeah, and he still does it now."
From: http://www.theage.com.au/news/Geoff-McC ... 20608.html

Full back should be instructed to cough all over him.

I reckon we need a "Matthew Lloyd is a knob" thread.

If you're reading Monga, here's my thoughts:

You are a grass-throwing, dribbling mouth-opened knob.

I hope Setanta repeated your silly little dance from the 2nd quarter instead of shaking your hand at the end of the game.

I'm glad your dad didn't play more games for the Blues, cos then you'd be running around in our forward line instead of Fev.

When Carlos baulked around you on the mark, I shouted insults until my voice was hoarse.

Yes you kicked 5 goals, but in the vast
majority of contested situations you were beaten by a guy who's only played a handful of games. A guy who first picked up a footy a couple of years ago. Your goals were cheap & mostly arose when you shirked out of the real contest.

You are a knob of the highest order.
