Clearly not the case at the moment Brad. It was Kernahan who told Swann and Icke what was happening with Pagan and Mitchell, Swann and Icke had no say from all reports.

Had no say in what?

Are you saying Sticks filled them in on the problems with Pagan and Mitchell (which you would expect him too) or he told them how to deal with the Pagan and Mitchell problem?

If thats the case and Swann and Icke aren't going to make their own decisions then we're no better off than we were.

From all reports [as accurate or inaccurate as they are] Sticks told Swann and Icke that Mitchell had been assured that his contract would be seen thru to the end of the year.

I would think that Swann would have been gearing towards sacking BM but the little promise of keeping his job until the end of the year with Sticks or the Board made that impossible.

Errrr, since when are we tied by a promise that may or may not have been made?

If we're willing to pay out (break) his contract I hardly think a promise to honor it is going to hold us back.

Swann and Icke need to make their decisions, independant of whats happened in the past. If that means they upset Sticks in the process I think he's a big enough boy to handle that.

You could imagine Sticks using the old handshake deal as an excuse not to get rid of BM.

So how does Sticks handshake tie us to Mitchell any more than a contract?

If Swann and Icke feel its necessary to get rid of Mitchell, a promise or handshake from Sticks shouldn't stop them. If it does we've hired the wrong guys.

can swann and icke make a decision that will upset 2 board members?

bare in mind that swann and icke have been there for 5 minutes and not 5 years, so probably are not placed to make such a decision whereas you and TBB have been watching this debacle for 6 months.

I would very much hope they're able to make a decision to upset 2 board members, even having been there only 5mins.

Like I said before, if they're not, then we've hired the wrong blokes.

If Sticks doesn't like it then he's free to go.

I'm assuming that any agreement or promise Sticks may have made to Mitchell was done so before Swann and Icke were appointed and while he was head of the football department.

It's not even a hard decision. Sticks should go.

He is the only guy left who served on the Elliott board. IIRC, at the EGM in 2002 he shrugged his shoulders and denied any knowledge of our finances. That's not really good enough.

He'd be ideal as a mentoring type role that serves as motivational. But I think his time as an administrator, or footy department, staffer are over.

Legend he may be, and is, this does not make him a good administrator. If Kernahan's first name was David, and not Steven, he would have been marched out the match committee after our first wooden spoon.

Although it looks like we are stalking each other on various TC threads TBB, please be assured that I wholly agree with you.

The whole Sticks wearing two hats at the club is untenable, which is a popular word at the club at the moment.

He should be removed from the football department and told to not be involved with any matter relating to fooball.

Swann and Icke should be able to sack whoever they wish without having the decision taken out of their hand.

I would say that the decision to retain BM had been made priro to their appointments.

You would think BM would quite for FFS and save the club anymore embarrassment.

Far too many people who are loving this club to death!

very nice CB, but he isn't David he is Stephen, so your point is, well, pointless - the thing is, we don't know what has gone on in the past, who was behind what etc etc - the slate should be clean - everything Sticks does is in the very best of intentions for the club - and he MAY be loyal to Mitchell but he is even more loyal to the club. The same can't be said about Dennis who is part of this problem also.

:-D

I thought about that just after I posted in the Teague thread.

You're right that we at least partially agree on this, Swann and Icke should be free to make decisions without interference. We disagree on whether any decisions that have been made are really binding.

We do agree on everything as I don't believe anything is binding but imagine having joined the club recently.

In your new job, you report to the Board members.

Two Board members have made a decision/promise, verbal or otherwise - how do you break that?

Had S & I been there longer than a few days/weeks, then they should have the balls to make the call, but they hadn't.

Perhaps in a few months, when this debacle is still simmering along, they will find the cajones to do the right thing.

Caroline Wilson apparently.

Not sure if I heard correctly, but I think he is no longer responsible for the young player development at Carlton, now purely Bullants' coach.

Seems also that his office has been (or will be) moved to Preston.

The situation is laughable.

She actually said that the Board told that to Swann and Icke, but then she said by that she meant Sticks.

I got the impression she was saying that Sticks purported to speak on behalf of the Board. Which begs the question again of whether he has the ability to make those calls.

However, there's no doubt that things can change in a few days. Pagan's position has been confirmed by the Board and Pratt in 2007, but that doesn't stop him being sacked in the time that it takes to hold a Board meeting. And again any decision to confirm Mitchell's position can be reversed by a simple Board decision.

I think we still have to watch this space.

But if Mitchell is moved into Cramer Street and Pagan sees out the year, I'd have to say that would tend to corroborate my theory to a large extent. How else would you explain the club making such an embarrassing move?

And here in lies the rub. Kernahan has a position on the Board AND the football department, something which many people find unacceptable. Kernahan is therefore responsible for 'employing' both Swann and Icke, and can meddle in footy department issues. That makes him incredibly powerful...in fact, way too much power for any individual, let alone someone whose performances in both areas over the years have, at best, been questionable.

Don't underestimate the power that Kernahan mayhave at Carlton, power which has been boosted, for the time being at least, since the arrival of Pratt.

It is not so much a case of saying to Swann and Icke that Mitchell has a contract which will be honoured, it's saying to Swann and Icke that 'Mitchell is staying, there is no discussion here boys'.

How do Swann and Icke feel about this? Who knows, but you'd have to think that, if this is what has happened, they'd be thinking that they have accepted positions that are, on some level, compromised.

And I shall reiterate...the common demoninator, yet again, is Kernahan.

just as things have been settling down and the club is heading in the right direction some of you want to piss Sticks off (as in get rid of him) - as for the Hitler comment, words fail me. I find them very offensive

I don't want Sticks to leave the club, just quit one of his jobs at the club!
