CC the opposition dont play lose man in defence in preseason games its more one on one and traditional set ups thats why we look good. Pagan is all about quick movement to the forward fifty - Coaches who think drop one or two back and we are rooted as we just keep charging forward and kicking to 2 & 3 on 1 situations . Pagan doesn't have a plan to counter act this and he is now saying that Fev need to move to CHF ala Carey where it is a lot harder to effectively play a lose man in the hole . In stead of controlling the ball creating the pace and waiting for the option to present ala Sydney

Sydney Blue I feel like you've just summed up the last 5 years of my Carlton supporting life!!!

That would be how you explain our game plan of the last few years in 2 or 3 sentences.

Caro on Footy Classified just said that the Board told Swann and Icke last Wednesday (apparently confirmed by Kernahan) that Mitchell's contract till the end of this year will be honoured.

Not sure if I heard correctly, but I think he is no longer responsible for the young player development at Carlton, now purely Bullants' coach.

Seems also that his office has been (or will be) moved to Preston.

The situation is laughable.

She actually said that the Board told that to Swann and Icke, but then she said by that she meant Sticks.

I got the impression she was saying that Sticks purported to speak on behalf of the Board. Which begs the question again of whether he has the ability to make those calls.

However, there's no doubt that things can change in a few days. Pagan's position has been confirmed by the Board and Pratt in 2007, but that doesn't stop him being sacked in the time that it takes to hold a Board meeting. And again any decision to confirm Mitchell's position can be reversed by a simple Board decision.

I think we still have to watch this space.

But if Mitchell is moved into Cramer Street and Pagan sees out the year, I'd have to say that would tend to corroborate my theory to a large extent. How else would you explain the club making such an embarrassing move?

Why?

I would call that a resolution, right or wrong.

Yep, Kernahan delivered the message. The confirmation was from Kernahan to Caro, apparently he confirmed it to her.

Sounds like Mitchell has some very strong supporters at PP.

Why? Because it's completely farcical that the coach of the firsts, and the coach of what is effectively the seconds, don't talk. Monday morning should have seen Pagan and Mitchell sitting down face to face for an hour or two discussing the performances of the Calrton listed players, asking questions, conversing. Not just a written report.

My work involves training people in, amongst other things, communication skills. I know only too well just how much information doesn't get conveyed when you don't have face to face communication.

Seems to me that the Club hasn't had the balls to make a decision on this. AFAIC, there are only 3 appropriate resolutions...

1. Pagan goes
2. Mitchell goes
3. Get them some how to sort out their differences, wherever they stem from, so that they can get along professionally.

Mitchell is virtually out of the club.

He's now working for Preston, but getting his contract paid out by Carlton.

I know the board are hedging their bets, but I'm certain that there are also other teams who do not employ their reserves coach in any other capacity.

Any issues now between the two have been minimised in such a way that it leaves the door open for Barry to come back in a senior capacity should Pagan get the flick.

I find it absolutely incredible that we have a supposedly professional senior coach who refuses to speak to the VFL coach.

In my book, this is totally unprofessional and unacceptable behaviour from a senior coach.

Or the other way of looking at it is that it's totally unprofessional for the club to reappoint Mitchell when it knows that this may well happen. Especially If Pagan's contract gave him the right to prevent such a reappointment.

I agree. I'm a bit with Mitchell and I've said this before that he has been quoted as saying that more has been made of his actions than actually is the case. When he was approached by the board, for all we know they probably told him Pagan had been sacked (after all we all thought he was sacked.) and asked him to present what he thought was a possible 'business plan' so he obliged.

I can't think that he has done too much wrong and even if he has, DP should find it somewhere to forgive him, be adult and move on for the team's sake. I think he's thinking of himself above the club. It's not what you teach your players.

So please DP, talk to BM, get it sorted out. It may not be as bad and the club comes first. Please Denis, please

Dennis is acting like a child, for someone on his salary to be carrying on in this manner is just disgraceful. I'm not pro-Mitchell either but what we are dealing with is pretty simple.

one question needs to be asked...is either DP or BM essential to the future success of the club ?

if yes, then work hard to bring the relationship back to at least a professional footing

if not a quick albeit brutal cull of both is in the best interests of the club

I suspect we are stuck with this until the end of this season... but I'd love to be proven wrong!

That would be even more laughable than the current situation.
1. because the Ants have been training at MC Hammer Park and
2. the Carlton players who play with the Ants need to review their game tapes with Mitch each week.
