Lance Whitnall is a selfish footballer. In the last quarter on the right HBF, Russell was getting the ball, had got the ball, put the foot down and bloody Lance in trying to get the ball, knocks him and Russell loses the ball.

Why the hell didn't Lance shepherd? He's got a big enough body, he was in the right position.

If he was really footy smart, he would have realised that had he shepherded, Russell would have got away and set up play with a switch to the left.

That was the cream on the cake for me. When you have a captain being selfish, what kind of tone does that set for the rest of the team?

i also noticed an act of selfishness from lance on saturday night

mooney had just come on to replace gibb's direct opponent,
ball was at the other end of the ground
lance was on hawkins
gibbs yelled out to lance that they swap = lance on mooney, gibbs on hawkins,
still not a great match up for gibbs, but better than him being on mooney, lance just waved gibbs away telling him no change was going to happen
gibbs was then smart enough to yell out to thornton and work out a swap between the 2 of them

Does that mean Gibbs is already a smarter player than "the world's greatest football brain" in Lance Whitnall? That was Lance's final remaining weapon in his armoury. What's left now?

Lance can't win.

I would say he has the authority to overrule Bryce on this one, something about being captain and having about 200 games experience. Its not selfish, its what he believes is in the best interest of the team.

To my mind Mooney would be a better matchup for Gibbs than the bigger Hawkins. Mooney is a more mobile, running player, but that shouldn't get in the way of a good Lance bagging

Hawkins
197cm
105kg

Mooney
194cm
99kg

Mooney has a seasoned body and 10 yrs of AFL footy under his belt...
Hawkins might be big but he isnt seasoned.

Lance was worried Mooney would run his around...
