Just got home. Didn't expect to win but that was pretty disappointing. Anyway, here we go...

PROS

1. Walker - fantastic, kicking is improving. A real positive

2. Murphy - You just have to sit back in awe.

3. Gibbs - First half was great. The way he tackles for a guy that hasn't built up yet is phenomenal. Have you ever seen someone break a Gibbs tackle?

I'm starting to struggle here but I promise 5 pros

4. Wiggins - presented all night which is more than most did

5. Reality check - we were getting a bit far ahead of ourselves. Players on media street. This perspective will inevitably help the club make the right decisions.

CONS

1. Dysfunctional forward line - Ratten, in his position as forward coach, took his first hit tonight. Congested, never one on one, nobody presenting. Disgraceful really. Too many 3 on 1 contests

2. Coast to coast plays - A byproduct of us turning over in a crowded forward line, was that Geelong rebounded and overlapped, going coast to coast with ease. How many times did we force a turnover between the 50 arcs? Hardly any. This is why 20 of their 24 goals were scored in the corridor

3. Lack of manning up - same as 2nd quarter last week. WHen the flow is the wrong way, MAN UP!!!!!

4. Rucks - Ackland and Cloke were exposed in the hit outs. They are stop gap measures. It will be a long wait until Hampson, Jacobs or AIsake come along - we are desperate

5. Our good players - If you humiliate Fev and Stevens, it is hard to lose to Carlton. Fev is owned by Scarlett psychologically, and hence the easy dropped marks. Stevo must have known that the tag treatment was coming, but even if he was poor, he shouldn;t have let Ling beat him.

Special mentions - Lance (this will get embarrassing soon if nothing changes), Lappin (will end year in ants - play the kids).

Walker, Murphy and Gibbs were all amazing considering their age, they are all natural leaders. This club is going to have some exciting times with these guys in the side, all still babies too.

Scotland I thought played well, although you will propbably not se many more innefective 37 possession games than that.

Betts stuck at it as well, which was good to see.

The main Con was the black (or was it navy blue?) rinse through Murphy's hair. It looked like it was painted on!!

Pros:

Walker, Murphy, Gibbs, Houlihan and Cloke.

Cons:

We won't improve until we stop being intimidated by certain teams. This game was over by the 5th minute, it was that obvious we were scared. That mental switch in our players heads is what will stop us making the step up to finals any time soon.

Lance went into defence and the Mjonc Lance watch begun. Mooney scored 2 on him with Lance nowhere to be seen, Hawkins scored all 3 of his goals on him. Bring in Hartlett!!

Lappin, move over for Blackers, needs to find some form.

Happy to see I'm not the only one who noticed Murphs hairstyle

Con:
Turnovers... they were way to many of them. Whenever Geelong brought the ball to their forward 50 there would be a goal on the run or someone would mark... but as soon as we would get the ball anywhere near the 50 mark or over, a pussycat would strongly mark and run away with it...

Simon there was one other positive that I can think of and that was Mr Scotland. He continues to outperform his mates more often than not.

That mark that he took going back with the flight of the ball was a gem.

We have come back to earth with a thud tonight and it will be difficult for them to re-group to take on the Bombers next week.

We played one of the big boys tonight and got a football lesson.

Geelong have a number of powerful, quick, dynamic players....we lack these, in fact I couldn't name you one. Our drafting seems to come up with finessy type players.

I'm in amazement at how a club like Geelong got Hawkins (father son obviously), Varcoe, Selwood and Djerrkura (yet to play) in one sitting.

We got stiched up again by the scum with the change to the drafting rules last year. If ever a club needed legitimate early picks it was Carlton. Good on you Spew, you must be smiling again tonight!

The club has no doubt turned things around...but we still need a few more talented footballers on our list.

I know that we are still developing and that there should be one or two gems still to come through....however still a fair bit of pain to go through yet.

Huge question marks on Whitnall and Lappin and one or two others which I won't name due to the bollocking I'll receive.

Still a long way to go in the season and with that will come both sunny and rainy days....still, more to look foward to than we have had for some time.

Pros:

It's over.

The kids. Gibbs, Murph, Setanta, Walker, Simpson, Carrazzo and Kennedy will share the dais for number 17. No doubt.

Cameron Cloke. Continues to impress.

Eddie Betts in the last quarter showed why he shouldn't be allowed outside of the forward 50 unless he's chasing a defender with the ball. NO MORE TURNING GUN GOALSNEAKS INTO MEDIOCRE MIDFIELDERS.

Fev didn't spit it even though he had a filthy night. First time I've seen him have such a bad run and not do his block.

Cons:

Whitnall and Lappin. Right or wrong, both should be wearing red next weekend. Shame it won't happen.

Forward line. Horribly ineffective.

Bounce of the ball, umpiring decisions. Just one of those nights. What could go wrong, did.

Jars, Your objective and level headed responses to our loss tonight are helping keep me sane.

Thanks.

haven't seen the game and most of my judgements are basied one whats written on here and a few snippets i herd from the streamed radio broadcast.

so here it goes.

if we are going to get towelled up like that then the senior guys who don't stand up over a few weeks really should not be played.

it's a tough possition because i've always been worried of through too many kids to the wolves so to speak but lance and lappo have put in two "shockers" by their standards. lappo did a "bit" last week but i reckon lance has played 1 decent qtr all pre season.

whitnall out for harlo
grigg for lappo.

Pros

Hopefully the biggest pro will come next week with a strong response to tonight.

I live far enough away from Geelong that the banjo playing celebrations won't keep me awake tonight.

Another game into the youngsters.

The main opposition given to Geelong came from the youngsters - Murphy, Gibbs & Walker.

Cons

The main opposition given to Geelong came from the youngsters...

Geelongs domination in the ruck, and their ability to take Fev and Stevens out of the contest.

The ease with which they got their goals - the rave will be "Tomahawk, Tomahawk" but I reckon I could have snagged a couple for Geelong tonight.

Pros...Murphy, Walker, Gibbs, Cloke(around the ground work) and Scotland(mark running with his back to the ball was very good).

Cons....As others have said...terrible forward setup....smashed in the hitouts....physically intimidated again by Geelong's more muscled up players.....the thought of Hawkins and Selwood running around for Geelong for the next ten years or so....or any more Abletts appearing....

Cons: What the @#$%&! was Gibbs being taught in a 14 goal drubbing standing Varcoe in the Geelong goalsquare. Some valuable minutes in the mid-field would have been a better option.

Pro's:-

Gibbs looked good.
Cloke looked good.
Murphy looked good.
Walker looks good.

Con's:-

to many to mention and quite frankly i'm sick to my guts at what i saw tonight. Disgrace..................an absolute disgrace and this has now shat all over what we have achieved in the past 8 weeks.

All that positivity, all that hard-earned belief and self-confidence.............has just been spat on by our inabilty to challenge the opposition.

There was a moment early in the first half when i felt sick..................
Ottens takes an uncontested mark 10mtrs out and goals, but when i saw the replay i noticed that two of the three closest players to Ottens were none other than Fev and Whitnall.............WTF?????????????? Why are they there. They should be nowhere near that end of the ground.

That was something i would expect to see last year, or the year before that. What happened to the change..........?

Inexcusable. These kids have worked their ass off latley and all of them were walking tall and smiling and feeling good about their game, about their football and more importantly about their clubs! And then BANG............for some reason we're playing the same shit we played last year.

Something should have been done about Fev.
Something should have been done about Stevens.
Something just should have been done........................the fact that it wasn't just confirms that there is a major flaw that still hasn't been address in our football department.

Why? Don't you think it is just as important for him to get his hands on the ball under pressure across HB, beat his opponent and pick up the tempo of the game? The Cats could afford to give Selwood a stroll through the middle because they were so dominant. When we were getting physical smashed there was no point in putting Gibbs in there. He will get his chance down the track.

Don't you think it is equally as important to leave the senior onballers in their roles and asked them to 'put in'. When you are 10 goals down they have to learn to dig deep and take some responsibility.
