It's fantastic news for our recruitment department but I have to wonder how we're going to pay for all of this. I know Pratt is a billionaire but we aren't living off his money. I hope Swann has a plan for us to be self sustaining within the next two years to cover all these new costs.

Sometimes you are such a negative person.

Do you think Swann is an administrative fool? Behind the Swann coup this is one of the biggest coups in recruiting. Be thankful and let Swann worry about the bottom line.

Only sometimes? 8)

Of course Swann isn't a fool but its hard to wrap my head around us going from 'We are so poor the offices of our coaching staffs officers are stuck in old abandoned corporate boxes, we've got a eight million dollar debt, and our adminstrators are claiming were worse off than a dead club" to "We're headhunting staff from rich opposition clubs and pulling in million dollar donations and sponsors left and right" in the space of two/three months.

Not that I'm complaining

But shouldn't we all worry about the bottom line? It was supporters, both big and small, not worrying about how administrators we're handling the bottom line of the club, and just going with the flow, that got us into this mess in the first place.

A great coup for the club.

So we have Hughes, Icke & Rogers all from Freo - I guess they helped put their current list together (Cazz, is that right?) and what a list that is

It's not the early picks that they have to get right (as these are often no-brainers), but it's the latter picks and their development that make the difference to the list.

Early picks are just as important. Picking the right ones can be the difference between winning a premiership and just making the eight.

Understand that time does and would go into getting the early picks right, but my point is the latter picks give you the advantage or edge over other clubs if you get these right more often than not. It ultimately builds your depth.

Yes WH and SR helped immensely over the past 6 - 8 years. Phil Smart is the Freo recruiting manager who also had a say in things. SI was the football manager in Freo. Their list is made of mostly WA kids and a dozen from Victoria .

CARLTON Another step in the restoration of Carlton was taken yesterday when the Blues bolstered their recruiting department with the appointment of Shane Rogers, formerly of Fremantle. In the brief time of the presidency of billionaire Richard Pratt, the Blues have lured Greg Swann from Collingwood to serve as chief executive, recruited Stephen Icke from Fremantle to oversee the football department and now added Rogers to the team of recruiting manager Wayne Hughes. "There are areas of our operation that we are keen to put resources and a lot of focus into and recruiting is one of those," Icke said last night of Rogers' appointment.
