I was not and am not making this into a Stevo V Lance debate. Lance was committed to the club and correct me if I am wrong, had a much better year last year than Stevo. The Club had a problem that if Stevo wasn't going to commit to the club (and still hasn't as yet) then how could you appoint him captain? Although Lance probably wasn't the clubs first choice as captain who else was there?

What was Lance doing end of season 2005 - he was hawking himself to any club that would have him - even had an interview with St. Kilda.

In the old days at Carlton if you ever showed any hint of disloyalty you were never considered for captain. Ask Geoff Southby and Rod Ashman who both wanted clearances from the club at some stage during the mid/late 70s. At any other club they would have been automatic Captains,. and possibly Ashman should have been appointed Captain after Jezza left the club at end of 79 - but was overlooked for Fitzpatrick.

Lance should never have been appointed Captain notwithstanding the fact that he is unfit, he is too slow and the game has passed him by.

Too late for much analysis. Stevens should be captain, he looks from afar to be the natural leader of the group. He and Fev are out 2 best players at the moment and Fev is a walking headline. If anybody is going to lead the likes of Gibbs and Murphy its going to be Stevens. Plus Stevens doesnt have relo's from the trailer park chasing him through the courts over text messages and maccas birthday parties.

maybe he should have stuck to his word and we would have chosen the right man to lead our club.

Doing a helluva lot more than the current captain

Funny, though, if you go through the threads from early last year, we were happy for him to be booted ...

Yes - us: the TC'ers .. can't talk for the club though .. don't know how that went while the club was deciding who to keep and who to delist ... but I'll admit to be one of the TC'ers who sided with the "boot" camp ..

No, sorry but a few misguided posters dont make a quorum.

Stevo has had his ups and downs with injury but he works harder than 90% of our list. I've supported him from day one.
I dont mind if players have form slumps or struggle at times, as long as they work hard to improve themselves.
Nick does that as much as anyone.

I liked this quote from Bryce Gibbs in Mike and Dan's article

Quote:
Who are your idols at the club? Who do you look up to? I bet having S. Kernahan written on your locker is a pretty inspiring thing. Is there anyone else who "wow"s you?

Definitely Nick Stevens. He’s the sort of player I want to be in the future. With his dedication to training and his behaviour on and off the field, he’s a great role model and I strive to be seen in that sort of way for my career. He’s always doing extra running or weights work at training, and being a starting midfielder which is the role I want to play in the team in future, he’s definitely a great example.

"Definitely a great example." :-D

a tad harsh there verbs,

the inevitable re our rucks happened 2 nite, bitch slapped big time, bentick, Stevo, Simmo and Murph to a certain extent live by the service dished up by Cain and Cloke. Cain was piss weak, Ottens and co got them going early doors, the tsunami came a bit quicker than expected. We need a bona fide ruck big time (please Hampo)
