Pratt gives Blues chance to box among heavyweights
Quote:
Last year, West Coast's football revenue was $40m and Carlton's less than $20m.

West Coast raised $3.6m last year through club events. Carlton pulled in under $700,000. The AFL figures show West Coast's marketing department earned it more than $15m. The Blues could manage just over $5m.

And despite Carlton's much-hyped move to Telstra Dome, no club makes less money from its stadium deal than the Blues. West Coast's Subiaco home drives a net return of $12m. Eddie McGuire has wheeled and dealed to get just under $12m for the Magpies. Carlton pulls in less than $5m.

Carlton, which used to boast a massive supporter base around Australia, raised less than $1m in merchandising. West Coast sold more than $4.7m of footy clobber. West Coast's membership was worth more than $11m while Carlton's dried up once it got above $4m.

Quote:
Greg Swann left Collingwood last month to join Carlton. The chief executive stunned his then president McGuire when he told him of the move. Swann could have moved to any other club and the hurt would not have been as intense.

These two clubs are the great rivals of the Melbourne football community, although it is an uneven fight these days.

Collingwood's revenue topped $44m in 2006 when you include gaming venues and other income not linked to football. Carlton's was less than half at $21m.

It may be that by the end of his first 10 days, going through the Blues' books, Swann is more stunned than McGuire.

We'll wait and see....obviously things may be worse than first thought.

The quote from the article that caught my eye was below? How does that work?

And despite Carlton's much-hyped move to Telstra Dome, no club makes less money from its stadium deal than the Blues. West Coast's Subiaco home drives a net return of $12m. Eddie McGuire has wheeled and dealed to get just under $12m for the Magpies. Carlton pulls in less than $5m.

Didn't Collins tell us we had a deal equal to Essendon*'s?

If not, we should get the @#$%&! out of there and head to the MCG.

Is the $5M just from Telstra or from both Telstra and the MCG? They have roughly the same amount of games each year in the contract.

Its still bloody fatprick!

Can't resist sticking the boots in. The headlines the only positive thing in it.

That's 2 minutes of my life I won't get back.

sadly though Vet the $$ thing is spot on. We were flowered pre Pratt - it was just a matter of time.

Agree with George - would love to know if we could get out of playing at TD and move to the G...

Good question if we are also getting 5 million from from the MCG then I guess we are not far off the mark. The article says Collingwood makes 12 million from the MCG and we make 5 million from Telstra dome. he forgot to mention we only play half the games at the Dome. and

Also forgot to mention the lump sum we got for moving to the dome. We had no choice Ian Collins made the right decision the Club needed the lump sum more then anything to keep us going.

I can't be bothered posting a long intelligent post today so I'll just say that Collo sold us out when he was president - left us with a great legacy he did. Melb Victory got a better deal then we did.

now, come on people, there was a few of us (surrey, myself and few others that slip from my memory) that went against the tide of popular opinion and alot of us where challenged constantly for what we thought.

who was right? who was wrong?

but you know what, even then, all i said, was i wanted the best deal for the club, we didnt get it, all i want now, is the best deal for the club.

perhaps now that we have a president that doesnt have a pie in both camps, we maybe able to get a deal thats good for the club, not good for TD.

And if anyone says we didnt have anything to bargain with, just be quiet. We have a currency as a club thats is worth alot than every other club in this state with the exception of perhaps collingwood and Essendon*.

If this is true, i have never been so pissed off in all my life! What............a.................F**CKING...............DISGRACE!

This Ian Collins fool just has to be stopped. Anything this guy touches turns to shit!

What the hell was the point of moving away from Optus Oval for? I thought it was to help us out financialy. $5million? Is this some sort of joke?

Does anybody know if we signed a contract with Telstra Dome and if so how long for? Cause if i was Pratt............i'd threaten to pull them out and shift home games to the G unless that figure rose, and by a great deal too!

F***king Ian Collins man!

Hmm, tough decision.
Move to TD and MCG for about 4 million dollars or stay at PP and lose 2 mill per year.

That Collins bloke is a robber.

and how we change our tune?

i thought this was the best thing the club could expect?

it was a deal to match essendons?

more games live on FTA? bla bla bla

every single reason that was put forward to move from PP has turned out to be false, and in some cases we are worse off.

you need look no further than social club facilities, whilst we where at PP we where getting 2 mill + from memory, now we get $250k

make up all the crap you want.

the facts are facts, we got shafted, and shafted twice, first time was by the AFL with the finals and draft picks, the second time was by our own president "selling us out" to the move and alot of you thought that was the best way to go about it.

I said it then, and i say it now, we [REDACTED] up by not moving all of our games to MCG. We should have had the deal that collingwood currently has, not the joke of a deal that is in place at the moment with TD.

Our deal will match Essendons? yet here we find out, we get less money than the saints and bulldogs?

give me a break. i suppose we should blame elliot?

Lets not forget the kangaroos, they even have their own pokies at Telstra Dome, but hey, that's ok, we've got the sticks room, great view of the ground from there eh!

We were on our knees at the time and TD (collo) took advantage of our position and rogered us right up the clacker.

What are the facts?
All I've seen here is a lot of emotive ranting.

What fact tells you we were better staying at PP.
All documentation I've seen state that we would have been $2mill per year worse off.
According to this article, we're $4 mill in front. :?

Why dont you present your facts so I can see where I've gone wrong.

are we shown on FTA more?

do we have a deal that equals Essendon* at TD?

do we have anything remotly acceptable as social club members?

do we have more members playing at TD than at PP?

the move for the club was supposed to be better for the club.

now after the move

we arent shown on FTA anymore than what we where when we where at PP.

Our deal is the worst in competition at TD

and we have lost revenue from the lack of Social Club facilites

do we have more members becuase we play at TD, last year i would say the membership tally was the worst for sometime.

The deal was suppose to be the saviour of the club, at best it did nothing to help us get out of the problems we face, at worse it left us abandoning our Home Ground for nothing

Everything that was trumpted as a reason for us to move, has turned out to be nothing but a joke, and in some cases (Social Club and its facilities as a prime example) sees us worst off.

i ask how many people are no longer social club members, due to the shit facilities we currently have in place?

how much in loss revenue is that?

how much money does the club lose, but not getting a cent out of any of the beers poured at TD? (keeping in mind at PP we got it all)

im sorry mate, you quote this $2 mill in up keep every year.

i reckon we lose more than that every year in lost revenue because of the move.

but the move was trumpeted as being what was needed to bring the club forward and the move did nothing of the sort.

Its easy to critise Collins since Pratt has come on board.

What ever anybody says we needed Collins to come in when he did who was going to stop Elliot killing this club it wasnt Sticks he loved Elliot. It wasnt Pratt its his mate didnt want to make Elliot look bad. None of the players hated Elliot becuase he was paying them all under the table.

One man stood up and took Elliot head on and beat him in an election which the members voted for he had nothing to gain Collins "you can mentions Teltra Dome later but we can argue about that all day PP was dead"

The members wanted this to happen they wanted to move to Teltra Dome they voted for it.

Collins did the dirty work he cut all the players wages and reduced the football departments costs.

Collins will never be the regarded as the best president at Carlton he might be even classified as the worst. I will remember what he did for this club.

But one thing is for sure we will never know how close it was to losing our Great club ever Interstate or merger.

collins did the dirty work all right, he managed to swindle the supporter base into thinking it was the best move, going to TD over the MCG.

thats the problem with the entire deal.

It was rumoured at the time that we would have 8 at MCG, 3 at TD which, from all reports was a far better option.

did we get that as an option to vote on?

no.

we had

stay at PP
move to TD (6 games) MCG 5 Games)

if we had the option of all three, we would be calling MCG our home grown.
