One thing I have particularly noticed this year is how poor Lance's flexibility is. He is having great difficulty gathering the ball below his knees. Basically he is being badly exposed when the ball goes to ground.

Perhaps his limited pre-season is having an effect... he was a carrying some kind of knee injury over summer wasn't he?

How would you notice that Lance hasn't even got near the ball to bend down and pick it up

Don't you think that the two were related, i.e get shane out of the head with a bit of a drink?

Just becuase the Boss can't operate all the machines doesn't mean that he can't lead the company. The roll of captain has many fascets - communication, motivation, encouragement, respect etc these are qualities required both on game day and during training. Lets see where the team goes over the next 5-6 weeks before making judgement. We all agree that the coach can make an impact without playing the game, why can't a captain?

Well that's so ridiculous I don't know why I am bothering.. You mention resect, how much respect do ou think Lance is demanding of our young players when the 18, 19, 20 year olds are getting 4X the touches of Lance? How do they look up to him when the Captain has to be hidden on the bench for nearly the entire second half for us to win? And then how is he supposed to motivate them.??? "Come on guys, really dig deep, find that extra bit inside for the last quarter, give it everything...."
What The? How could the kids take that seriously from someone who can't motivate himself? Young Walks should have been giving Lance the pep talk to "motivate"

When you have such a young list you have to lead by example. Simple as that. Only then can you earn respect and motivate.

Let's hope Lance is improves soon

Exactly what I pointed out earlier. Couldn't agree more. He seems very sluggish on the deck.

By the way.. If AW and JK were spotted eating chips well whoopdy flower doo. Geez AW is really struggling for stamina at the moment isn't he.. he really should look at his fitness
Seriously though if you see one flaw in the fitness of these two then fair enough but that won't happen so..
Lance on the other hand is possibly the most unfit player in the AFL (or one of) now that Rioli is gone. Now I think Lance has a little more responsibility when it comes to diet don't you?? He could be a very dangerous player if he was at his maximum fitness, and he has a responsibility to get to that fitness on his salary. AW and JK have already taken care of that. Next

No thanks Comrade.

Whilst I am extreemly pleased that Dick is presedent, I feel that we turned on each other is the reason our club got run into the ground. It's easy to put the blame on one individual, but the fact is we were all turned on our club and leaked information to media further humiliating our club. United doesn't mean blind faith in the administration, just that we serve the club not the individuals. If it is in the clubs best interest that we attack our players, even when they're wining then I don't know what the term supporters comes from.

It was reported this morning that Lance has had to have his knee drained regularly to try to relieve soreness.

You are all right, lets drag Lance and send him out to the ants. Shows great support to the young guys that if you stuff up, you won't be given a chance. Send them into their shells afraid to take a risk in case it doesn't come off and you end up in the seconds. Last year Pagan said to Carlos that I am going to play you to the end of the year even if you make mistakes, that has given him the confidence to have a real crack rather than go into damage control when he stuffed it up. Let's give Lance a few weeks to get some form, if he can't, then we should rest him and get him right, play into some form in the ants and have another crack later in the year. It's only round one for christ's sake.

Woopee do.... if he cant play football he can retire...

He would be putting more stress on his knee by playing at a heavier weight.
If his knee is gone..... why is he captain????

Fev has a sore knee too... but he still looks like he can play footy out there...

With Lance its always one excuse after another.....

He was allowed to get away with too much when he was younger... and he is paying for it today by being soft!

Boys boys boys

Get off Lance's case

Hes played one game in the regular season and we won the game

JONATHAN BROWN had a absolute shocker for the brissy lions, only got 30-40 supercoach points and he was my capt so i'm not happy about that.

I think you guys should stop worrying about the big red, he will be fine in a few games.

He still takes the 2nd best backman against opposition teams, so hes taken away a good backman for the other younger players.

With Lance in the team we are better even if he spents half the game on the bench.
I don't see the lions on JB's case so back of the big red.

Go the blues 2007

Bluebird,

I saw Whitnall on the Saturday the week before the opening game and he was eating red rooster chips and drinking a few VB cans while watching his beloved Lalor playing in a cricket grand final.
Do you think Nathan Buckleys and James Hird would be preparing for the season in that manner??

The events of the past few weeks make this pale into insignificance, but on the last Saturday night of the Commonwealth Games I had Daniel Kerr and Ben Cousins in the row in front of me. They polished off 5 or 6 beers, a bucket of chips and a packet of twisties each. Their first game was back in Perth on the Thursday night against St Kilda. From memory they were both good that night.

We'd be shitloads better with him in the Ants.

He's slow, he doesn't run he lumbers and the game has past him.

Worst decision ever to make him captain. Every man and his dog knows Stevens should have been captain and he's currently sticking it up those who chose Lance over him. Hell, I reckon he knows he should have been captain too.

Dont fret my Carlton friends

Under the old management this situation would have been allowed to deteriorate into a festering puss infested sore, then we'd look to the AFL for hints on what to do.

Not this time round, Lance will be given a chance to get himself right. Failing that I cant imagine many more embarasing displays.

Lance, I cant really get upset about that much.

If someone last year said, Smorgon out, Pratt in, the teams playing very exciting football, processes and staff in place to turn around the club BUT you have to put up with Lance moving around like a Carthorse i would have said ill provide the hay and feedbag.

I love this side with or without Lance.

Even if lance kicks 10 goals one behind this week.

He will still get bagged for missing a goal.

Even after his great year last year he was bagged through out the year. Eventually you will get it right

Dose not matter what he does there will always be snipers in the bushes waiting to take a cheap shot.
