I feel for Lance but being down on form and/or confidence can happen to anyone.

What I like to see when players are struggling is the ability to keep working on the basics. Chasing, harrassing, tackling, assisting team mates etc.
Lance is'nt doing those things either imo. His opponents have been waltzing out of our forwardline continually of late which creates enormous problems up field.
He also ran into Fevs path on a couple of occasions yesterday which is very uncharacteristic.

By all means give him support to continue but expect him to repay the faith with hard work on field.
I'm not seeing it at this stage.

Well said.

He must show he wants to be part of the team!

C'mon guys, give Lance a break! One ordinary regular season game and you are ready to drop him!! Please????

A little faith please.

Allright!

I'll have faith in him when he sorts out his fitness and his head.

But in all seriousness bunks, I am an avid fan of Lance's (check my posts for proof), but what I saw on yesterday, and the previous NAB games, Lance has a serious problem, at least between the ears, but I also question his fitness too. He hasn't had a strong preseason; he's had a knee problem.

I honestly don't think he's going to turn this around in a week or two. I want him to star next week, and I doubt he'll be dropped for the Cats game.

How long do you think we should give him to turn it around?

or

How long do you think we should carry him?

What did you think of his last 4 NAB games and his game against the Tigers? When do you think he is going to turn it around?

Give me some hope, and I'll regain my faith in him. ATM he is a big risk, because we would have to have a KP on the bench incase he fails again; that means one less midfielder to rotate.

I'll pay that. Usually he prefers to take an option that makes better use of his ability (ie. he starts making his way towards the play ready to be a link for the turnover) but he's not really doing that at the moment either.

A couple of weeks off will do him good.

Ahh Whitnall dramas and yep i wonder if Whitnall wasnt on the list some posters would have nothing to write about

Overall i have a new optimisim for 2007
* Off Field much imporved with great aquisitions in Swan / Icke / Ashman and others
* Coaching panel in Braddles / Ratten / Corsisca
* Pratt new Presidente
* Board been working together
* we havnt lost a game so far in 2007
* happy with the list in general as to where we have come from

So when it comes to players / Whitnall i think All players including Whitnall can be assessed as how there performance is if they played well or bad but i believe we shouldnt be slandering and denigrating the players on the list

Whitnall has been good in past and had a good 2006 / Thus far he has been less than servicable possibly a liability at present for this reason we need to work out the best way of supporting or assiting him

If this means he is told take 3-4 weeks and sort out personal problems / Get yourself match fit ... do extra fitness work so be it.
The captaincy should be seen to raise the bar not allow him a free run. You accpet responisibilty of Captaining the Team then you need to make sure you lead by example and be a integral part of the team
Lappin had a poor game / Murphy by his high standards had a game that he wouldnt be happy with so players will have poor games. Whitnall has so far not been of any value since start of preseason.

The worst thing to do is hang shit on our own players unless they openly show disdain for the club or give the Blues a bad rap for other reasons.

But overall Lance needs to be treated same as all other players in fact he probabaly has a higher level of pressure on him as he is the captain

His pre-season / 1st round so far have been well below the mark. Either he fixes it up or needs to excuse himself until he comes back and plays the way we expect and that is to take the second best defender and be dangerous

Yes.
Exactly why he should step out of the spotlight to quietly deal with his issues.

Was it Pagan's decision alone?

There's ways of doing that without disgracing him. He would have very little control over the situations surrounding him at the moment.

Stick him on the injury list for a couple of weeks with a knee injury, he can have one weeks rest and a monitored second week of track work and then it can be revised from there. It leaves him out of the spotlight, with time up his sleeve to sort out what he can within the time frame (I say this without knowing court dates).

There's no disgrace in putting your club & your team mates first by stepping aside.

Would be an extremely honourable thing to do and would garner him great respect.

True, but I'm not so sure that it's the best move for the club.

I'd be wary of how Stevens will handle it. I'd rather give him the year, and if Murph is ready, give it to Murph.

There's a difference between being at the top and grabbing at the guy at the top's ankles.

does this have anything to do with the 'doing it Greek style' thread?

I knew it was coming, but I didn't think it would be you (there's another one).

Yeah.. Very disappointed thus far.. give him more time but if the next two games are like the tiges game and all NAB games something has to change, I'd say a few in the 2's
For mine it's not just his pace or lack thereof but his overall sluggishness in simple things such as picking up the ball etc. His reflexes seem to be that of an old timer, and constantly fumbling. I'm not trying to bag the hell out him, but he is costing us at the moment. I want him to return to thr form of say 99ish but not too sure thats on the cards. His body is much older than his age.

As for the captaincy, well what can I say. If the blokes out of form, fair enough, it happens to the best, but the way he is carrying himself at the moment on the field, No Enthusiamsm whatsoever. Then look at Stevens...
By far our most valuable player on the field over our 5 '07 games and boy is he passionate.

Now for my theory. I think everyone sees Murph as an undoubted future champion of the game and an ideal player to lead Carlton as Hird does the Scum or Bucks does in maggotland. Many wanted to see him captain but surely too early at 18-19? years and 13 games. Now if Stevo (IMO has just hit his prime) who has 5+ years of elite football in him was given the captaincy, he would probably have it for those 5 years, until Murph is in his mid 20s. On the other hand I don't think Lance can play at this level for another 5 years. Is it possible that the thought was give it to Lance for
1 - 2 years then turn it over to young Marc for a youthful, inspirational, passionate captain for 10+ years of Blue glory.

Well thats just a theory but I think if Stevo had the big C, would do a little too well at the job to take it off him after a couple of years, and let's face it, Murph was born for this and will captain this club. BTW whether Stevos skip or not, he is at the present te "spiritual captain" and his leadership is as good as I've seen. Was very unlucky

Flower that was a long post

That's what I've been saying for quite a while...it's only a theory...but it surely avoids future conjecture as well as achieving the goal of giving the captaincy to Murphs as soon as he is ready.

Captain...schmaption!!

Try $400,000 per season - that's about $18,000 per game...

How much money do we have to part with for Lance to actually become interested??

A few other Carlton players are playing after their fair share of troubles as well...yet even our targeted Full Forward showed a heap of passion (sure, at times at the umpires!!) and lead from the front.

Reverse finger, Footy Brain...

Whitnall got towelled up, but at the same time the rest of the side didn't do him or themselves any favours by kicking to the triple-team every time, or in Fev's case, leading the triple-team to the hot spot.

The Tiger's backline gave us a bit of a touch up all day - in particular early on.

Lance is distracted at the moment and perhaps some of you should ask your boss how well you worked after having a big spat with the wife/partner before work. I see it time and time again when people have problems at home they carry the problems to work. What he needs is for his wife and family to support him and to work out his fustrations and problems on the training track - to use the negativity of Shane into a positive in terms of fitness, both phisical and mental. I believe that Swann is going to help Lance sort out this problem soon as even he can see that it is a big distraction that he doesn't need. I can also tell you that Lance is not loving the publicity, far from it and if it was not footy season I would be willing to help Lance reset his mind with the help of Jack Daniels and Johnny Walker.

Bananas!
When you walk through the front door to work youre there to work.
If youre a pilot of a plane you have to work.
If youre a doctor.. you have to operate.
If youre an air traffic controller you do you job.

Lance cant play.. chase... mark... run... congratuulate cos he is having a spat with his brother???
Get real!!!.. and like i keep saying... I HAVE IT ON EXCELLENT AUTHORITY he isnt worried about his brother and was enjoying the publicity even....

On very good authority!!!

Lances problem is apart from his body being all wrong for modern day football... he doesnt work anywhere near hard enough.
Lance needs to work HARDER than anyone else at the club to give himself every opportunity...
...Lance doesnt...!!!
