Great news.

I can't believe how much our fortunes have changed over the last couple of months.

Well John Elliott predicted all this will happens if Smorgon was to be defeated and just about everyone laughed at him, in my opinion John Elliott was always a legend regardless what anyone else thinks, his heart is all Carlton, just like Joseph Guttnick was to Melbourne then later all he got back was a kick in the guts.

Guys, credit where credit is due...Synbad was saying last year the money would come :-D

Yes it is...I spoke briefly to a board member whilst at training today and asked if he a) had a good time last night and b) was he happy with the financial contributions...the answer I got back was intriguing.

"A real good night...and not everyone who is going to contribute could make it last night - so I dare say there's a bit more to come".

Most of really big Carlton money was not there, and they still raised $2M. Top effort.

Another $150K in the kitty today. Two contributions - 1 from someone who wasn't even invited, heard about the new "Presidents Circle" coterie and wants in, another from an attendee last night who wants his contribution to be anonymous.

There were probably about 5 or 6 "serious" Carlton people who were unable to attend last night who we intend to catch up with over coming weeks.

And one final note to close off the preseason - our Presidents function is sold out for Sunday with a waiting list of 20. 520 will be in attendance. I am reliably informed by someone who should know that this hasn't happened even for Anzac Day clashes. At $375 a head - you can do the maths.

Now for the footy.......lots of Blues members, lots of cash paying Richmond supporters and hopefully a win.

:-D

Not that long ago people were disassociating themselves from the club.

Now they're giving us money in the 'hope' that they can get into the inner circle and being put on waiting lists to attend functions.

People to thank for this in order of importance:

1. Members - for decisive action at the election
2. Dick - obvious reasons
3. New Board - for having the balls/foresight to approach Dick 8)
4. Players - for winning the NAB cup, bringing back hope & conficence to supporters and playing a style of footy worth watching :-D
5. Recruiting staff - speed, height & skill which have made 4. possible
6. Money Men - for your contributions $$$$$$$
7. Membership staff - who are obviously working the arses off 8)

Despite us not winning a heap of games this year it will become clear to even the Carlton haters that is is only a matter of time before we will.

But in a 'teambuilding year' someone suddenly presses the fast forward button.

Our status in the AFL as the powerhouse is re-generating, and major cash injections into the club is the catalyst for this.

That sharp "bite" in the crowd when they roar and cheer a tackle is laid or a great goal or a spectacular mark is coming back - rraaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

They raised $1.5 million so that makes the total raised $3 million after Pratt matched it dollar for dollar. :-D

Fantastic news Mark, thanks for the update.

I don't mean to sound greedy, but is it Dick's intention to match that $150k, and any other money that comes from the other 'serious' Carlton people, dollar for dollar as well?

Exactly we have more power than people realise. If we all stick together that is............ I feel very proud at this stage for helping to vote Smorgon out...........

Yes but he was also a very vocal critic of Kernahan and Elliott who were both prominent in bringing Pratt back . those two have copped a pasting on this site over the years and should now be given a big pat on the back for helping implement this turn around

Yes but according to people that were at the Pratt do.. Sticks spoke and part of what he spoke about was he was sorry about the way the election was handled.... cos he was part of a mechanism that was hell bent on making this whole thing impossible (the coming of Pratt)... Sticks and all of his wisdom of Solomon threw his hat behind Smorgon... and Malouf... Remember the Unity of four .. and the Carlton Unity thing he supported and endorsed???....
Sticks is Carltons very own Frank Spencer..

See the thing about Kernahan isnt Kernahan... cos he isnt the brainiest guy.. or the most influential guy.. cos Kernahan speaking to Pratt wouldnt cut it.. would it???... its that Kernahan is meant to be captain of the century.... and the way he was promoted by Elliot means people think Kernahan has an actual brain... (lets not worry about getting O'Reilly to the club.. or backing Elliot..or backing smorgon...) great track record in anyones language...eh???

As for Elliot... he was killing the club and his time was up... but i also did say that you cannot use Elliots name as the Bogeyman and it was time people brought this club together... (thats of course if you can read what i actually wrote and you wernt talking through your arse???)Thats probably over three years ... by the way..
so im not sure what your point is??

By the way Elliot was a catalyst but so were DeLutis... Grollo.. Fahour and Demetriou in bringing Pratt back....

So again... apart from the last chat where Elliot went to talk to Pratt.. holding Sticks hand... what else do you know about putting the whole thing in its true context SB? ...ANYTHING????? :-D

Regardless of who you are addressing this to Synners, I do agree that some of us are guilty of clutching at straws at times or looking at things with rose coloured glasses.

I read your post last night and thought it had a powerful message for all of us to note. ie There's no doubt that there's more to a situation than meets the eye/ear.

That's not necessarily ignorance on our behalf, but naivity. This is where blokes like you are important for us mere mortals so distant from the heartbeat in Melbourne...encouraging us to keep a level head on a political level, and helping us realise that there's more to it than a couple of individuals.

My appreciation extends to all concerned Delutis, Grollo....not just Elliot and Kerna.

No doubt the reference of appreciation to Elliot and Kerna is made innocently with just the positives in mind.

Sitting on the fence or being arrogant are not great qualities of good leadership. Whilst I ignore their frailty at times, I can't help but love them whilst they put their hand up for Carlton as Carltonians in times of need.

I embrace all Carltonians having a dip for Carlton; that includes you Synners.

Thanks for your wise words.

By the way where's Collins? Haven't seen much support extended to the Blues since he left.

Bondi. i like everyone here am a die hard supporter.
all i want is the best for the club.
Elliot isnt the best for the club ... neither was Princes Park... and in the end either was Smorgon.
I just have to laugh when people think Elliot alone or Sticks brought Pratt back.

Pratt was always in the shadows .. not with Elliot.
Sticks was behind Smorgon so he wanted the status quo.
Pratt was behind others to make the run.. when the whole thing was knocked over by Smorgon... if REAL changes were going to be made.. only one man could just walk into the club and make them.... it couldnt be DeLutis.. or Grollo.. or Fahour etc....

Pratt would have needed minimal arm twisting.
The timing in the end was perfect... smorgon out!!.. cometh the hour cometh the man...!!

Pratt could finally see himself as the man... and he is the man!!!

Well said Synbad.

There is a place for Elliot now at the club, but could the Elliot lovers please lay off with trying to elevate him to be something he is not.

He did his part to get Pratt to the club, and so did many other fellow Carlton supporters including thousands of voting members.

But having said that we must always remember the most important person that got Pratt back to the club was Pratt!!!
