I hope it turns out to be correct and I think Waitey is capable of achieving the honour, but it is a big call to suggest before the start of a season that a person untried in a spot would end up All Australian in that possie.

It's refreshing to see a journo actually making some bold predictions... unlike the Sheahans of this world.

In stark contrast to The Age's effort today.

Walls had us 15th, Conolly 16th. The only major changes I could spot were Collingwood sliding towards the bottom four and Essendon* rising out of it.

I think it's important for TC posters to see how others view Carlton from the outside...I keep on hearing more positives from the outside than I do from within the Carlton supporter base (TC especially).

IMO I believe Waite has got what it takes to be an AA, and always have. His kicking is just one part of the game that needs his full concentration when executing, so to me that doesn't imply that he can't do something about his present achilles heal in 2007...just concentrate, because he creates the time and space for himself to do just that.

The fact that TC posters attempt to find reasons why their team has been weak, Waite has become a target. I have never believed that Waite not keeping his feet is as big a problem as is made out. I look at all footballers and they all go down when chasing too...it's a natural phenomena of our game. Sure there's some like Saints' Harvey that keeps his feet nearly all the time, but he's an exception not the rule. One needs to be realistic with their expectations.

All we have to do now is brace ourselves without too much expectation and enjoy the ride our kids will take us over the next decade. Just don't be surprised to see our kids take us higher than expected beforev 2009.

Im sick of seeing the same ladder as last year with a few teams swaped around. The ladder is never the same as last year there are always teams that suprise like Collingwood going up the ladder and Essenden going down.

It is a fair point Bondi. I have to admit that I am taking the perspective on this season that I will expect us to lose at all times (except against North and Essendon*) and if we win, then I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm thinking the Tigers will win by 28 on Sunday!

I don't know... I think for many of us we are faced by having seen it all before. Like we've seen a good preseason, we've seen good draft picks, and we've heard the hype, and we've been let down before so we feel vulnerable in being positive. The positive posters are the ones with guts, the rest of us are standing in the wings ready to jump on the bandwagon - but we daren't let ourselves for fear that it will all crash again!

Nb. Carlton fans aren't the only ones in this position - followers of Federal Labor are also striking eerily similar poses at the moment

The problem is that people take that a little far and we call the SES and look stupid when there hasn't been a flood. If you know what I mean.

If we can work out why the glass is half-empty, then hopefully we can work out how to fill it again.

But there are reasons to believe the glass is half-full as well.

I'm totally full of it in this post.

No matter how good a year Waite has at CHB he still doesn't have a chance of being All Australian this year. You need a couple of good years of footy before you're even considered.

I remember back in 1999...I made over 10K in bets that Carlton would not only make the finals but be in the top 4. I won a lot of cash...and most of it was from Carlton supporters.

Why?

They couldn't see it when it was glaring at them. We had a good list; balanced and tough, both physically and mentally.

Why?

Many of our supporters were too preoccupied in the other 15 teams and the hype from their camp!

The wheels in footy turn, and we all knew in 2002 we had a huge injury list, but by the first 6 rounds of 2003, we all knew Black Friday was a different problem to our aging list, that contained no depth in quality, because we gave away our draft picks. We knew we were in trouble.

2007 is different from 2006....really different. (Look at the no. of top 10 & 20 draftees)

2006 was different to 2005...really different. (Look at Walker grow, and the influx of quality kids, especially one named Murphy)

2005 was different to 2004....and so it goes....right back to 2002....that was the beginning of the end.

We learned to be humble post 2003. We learned to play the game post 2005 Wizard Cup. We have learned that off field quality is just as important as on field quality.

We should have learned by now that our kids' approach to round 1 post Preseason Flags is much different to the big headed 2nd chance retreads were had gathered at the club.

Have we all leaned the lesson of believing the believable?

This is the beginning of the new, and the end of the end. The wheels have turned, we've done our time. The AFL couldn't break us because we're still here (Pratt or no Pratt). Now we have Pratt, and we have all grown 6 inches.

We will win more than 4 games in 2007.

spot on. I think what has happened with Waite is the expectations have been TOO HIGH on him and in our last season when we were playing so bad we need to lay the blame on people so we instead of laying blame on blokes that deserve it, a lot of supporters have gone to the bigger name players and picked on tiny little weaknesses. FOCUS on the positives, waite has so much going for him, other clubs would kill to have him, yet so many of our supporters absolutely lay into him. I don't think All Australian but again if he has a really solid year wouldn't be suprised if he didn't as there isn't too much competition for that spot.

He used to get faked out by the ball carrier nearly every time.

Turns out it had nothing to do with any sort of physical lacking. Definitely worthy of the blame.
