A nice link between the former power-house Blues and renowned criminals.... Much like the current Eagles link.

The longest drought in anyone's lifetime, I'd imagine.

The worst droughts were 47-68, and the one before that was the stretch up to 1916-1938 (someone will correct me on this one)

During Grand Final Day last year I chatted to a well known servant of the Carlton Football Club and the story of the missing '82 flag had come up briefly in conversation. I'm not entirely sure who did the digging - but I do know that Richard Pratt told current employees to use the '6 degrees of separation' to find out who could get the pennant back to the club.

I'm honestly surprised it took this long...all it takes is the right phone call to the right person from the right person.

N.B - Whilst no one wants to glorify the criminal deeds of those associated with the 'Carlton Crew' - it's important to recognize that many of their family and friends are still members of the footy club and of this website...

When they came to the footy - they were supporters of Carlton, just like you and me. Some of my heroes growing up in Jimmy Buckley and Mark Maclure were their mates and Wayne Johnston used to babysit the Moran boys.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are more than a few people who would have been the right people to make that phonecall to the right person!

The issue that gets me here is that they asked the club for a favor, which was granted, then simply refused to give the flag back.

Whilst they may be 'supporters', thats hardly shopwing the club much respect. And the result will probably now be that the club will never be so kind as to repeat the favor, no matter how good a supporter the person is.

Selfish, pure and simple and now all Carlton fans suffer.

Let's just say that the article penned by Jon Ralph is not entirely accurate and that the following is complete rubbish.

Quote:
But when football manager Col Kinnear later asked the notorious gangland family to return the flag, he was firmly turned down.

Kinnear persevered under considerable duress.

"It all got quite nasty in the end," a club source said this week. "There were a few people a bit scared to ask for it back."

Given the current climate of footballers and media personalities having illegal dealings with certain people who make a large living from illegal activities - I'm pretty sure the aforementioned quote from a 'club source' was strategically placed so the club could distance itself from such elements. Fact of the matter is that I've since found out that the real story isn't half as good as the one written...it's a bit like when you're looking for something in the fridge and it's staring right in front of you.
