Just watching the footy show and the fact that Carlton's mention after winning the NAB Cup was basically 'oh and by the way, the blues won on the weekend' has me silently happy.

I feel that lack of media spotlight on the blues will allow the team(especially being such a young list) will help keep the players grounded. Lack of expectations from the media due to the attention being spent on The Eagles rather than us means no big heads, no high hopes, and the coaching staff can get the playing group to concentrate on the task at hand (rounds 1 to 22) quietly and efficciently.

It helps the team and the players but it doesn't help the finances too much.

fair call...but i think that improvements in the first few home and away games would bring in memberships to easily compensate.

It's helping the finances. When another party is the focus of negative attention and you have just come off a fair to impressive curveupwards: you're own income is steady at the least. Our diehards got us through the dark, dark, dark. We're now a clean entity because of the West Coast bulls#*t in a market not used to looking up on the intenet whether we lost by 41 points to see if there may be something to look forward to there...(that's us happy d*#kheads on here). Albeit old dark, navy d*#kheads.

Suck s*#t Eagles I say. Open our range with the real bandwaggoners now. Imagine when the next Melbourne team has a fall...

The fact that Carlton's win was hardly mentioned, winning the NAB Cup was basically because the night series mean f all, like a scratch match, any bottom club could win it,as the top sides couldn't give a rat ass about it,just looking at the list they put in.

The real thing is next week, the Pre Season cub should be the cup that Sam Newman has on the Footy Show, the one with the rat that he used to display for the Dockers and Port Adelaide,i reckon that cup has style, lol.

Go Carlton.

From a winning games perspectives, it is a good thing. And this type of story will drag out until the first bounce next week you’d think. We won the cup, got the cheque and now it is a distant memory. And with the reduced focus it means less discussion about how we’ll handle the pressure and whether we’ll do another pre-season cup-wooden spoon double!!!

I was talking about this with a guy at work this morning, telling him the fact tht the Eagles have stolen the spotlight will help the Blues go about their business with minimum fuss..

Wait til Round 1 and our young guns will let our footy do the talking

I heard something about that - what exactly was it about?

It helps us as next time they're writing a story about drugs in football, they can wheel old Benny out as a proven consumer, instead of resorting to the tired and old Carlton-linked Laurence Angwin.

i was fortunate enough (thanks again shawn!) to sneek into the private players fucntion/celebration after the game last saturday night and let me tell you, i was supremely impressed by the boys behaviour and the atmposhpere in the room.

You just got this feel that the lads are on a mission and that they know in the grand scheme of things that the job is not even half done.

the professionalism and freindly nature of all the players that i rubbed shoulders with assures me we are on the right track and all of the kids are well rounded and adjusted individuals.

Murphy, Russell, Jackson and Scottland especially were very impressive in the way they spoke and realised where they were at with there footy.

Murphy really is the complete package of what you want in a modern day footballer both on and off the field.

so i think yes it's great that bad boy benny has stolen the spot light, but i dont think the lads are under any illisuions at all about the seasons prospects and i think even if we had a bit more media exposure i think we would cope with it pretty well.

the whole team seems pretty switched on to me.

i rekcon this year is the year that we supporters will get some pride back in the jumper

The news on Seven, who play the footy on FTA, had the same "oh, and by the way" attitude .. noice ...
