Absolute nonsense.
Collo is on record as telling Pagan that the list was shot and to rebuild the club with youth.
It is also on record that Pagan believed the list was capable of making the eight!

One person misjudged the situation badly and it wasnt Collo.

The fact that Pagan stood back during the preseason is totally unremarkable, both for him and for other senior coaches in the AFL.

Who said it is remarkable? :?

The fact is that Pagan has partially taken a back seat the past 3 years during pre season.
The difference is that the players are working a lot with their zone coaches this season where in previous years, Elshaugh took over and his drills were Pagan clones.

The players have recieved more knowledge about tactics and set ups this pre season than they have in 4 years.
If you believe you should thank Pagan for that, good on you.

Why Elshaugh? That's a first for me.

My understanding is that Tony was Denis's toe-cutter, but was relentless. Now I understand every organisation needs one, however, it was relentless.

It could be seen as a case of poor player - deal with it.

But any other workplace environment wouldn't tolerate it.

Don't suppose you can provide a link to the "record" you are talking about? Because the article dating back to March 2005 doesn't seem to suggest that Collo had any problems with the recruiting back then. If you can give us a few details, that will make it easier for the rest of us to draw our own conclusions.

Anything below 8 wins should be seen as totally unacceptable. Stats like the club had several losses of 20 points or less last year is very misleading. In a few of those games the Blues came from 7-8 goals down at 3/4 time and made the scoreboard "respectable" by the end of the game. Last year was a wasted opportunity in terms list management. It was apparent early the club were headed for another 15th to 16th sort of season yet blokes like Livingston,Prendergast,McGrath,Teague,Longmuir,Saddington,Bannister were given matches that should've been pumped into blokes like Edwards,Jackson,Flint,Hartlett,Bower etc. In my opinion the Bullants relationship isn't feasible. Why blokes like Edwards,Jackson, A o'hAilpin spent the majority of the year playing VFL 2nds and the likes of Jackson & Bower didn't play in the VFL Finals is beyond me.
Apart from Rd 1, the club's best performance of the season was the West Coast game. For three quarters they played an attractive brand of running direct football only to go regress in the last term and get overrun.
Apart from 2004 when the Blues won 3 of the last 4 games the manner in which the side have finished off seasons have been disturbing.
2003 - humiliated by the Kangaroos
2005 - humiliated by the Bombers in Rd 21
2006 - humiliated by Sydney

The club have recorded some horrific losses under Pagan. I think it is something like 21 ten goal plus defeats with several topping 100 points. Twice the club have lost 11 in a row under Pagan. I'm just hoping the influx of new coaches and the kids they've finally showing confidence in key postions will see such stats never be repeated.

I left on the half time siren which is the earliest I've ever left a game. I would have left at quarter time of the Saints game last year but I went with a Saints fan so I had to stay.

And there I was thinking that the thread was about looking forward to this year rather than the past. Maybe I got that wrong?

Want to have a stab at that SurreyBlue?

What does he have to do:

Win us a &^%$ing Premiership.

That's what we used to measure success on in the past.

About time we brought that vision back

I think before Pagan came we'd never had more than two 60+ losses in the Home and Away season.

Denis had 7 in his first year, 4 in his second and 5 in each of his 3rd and 4th seasons. The guy doesn't just break records, he smashes them.

Last year the team had no formation, structure and no decent and flexible game plan...

If that continues thats when we sack Pagan...

Lets be the first club to have joint coaches....hehe

Denis Pagan, Darren Hulme, a Cleveland Steamer, the B&F function, a sand wedge.

13 wins! Period!

I know where Agro is coming from with the 4 wins, but I do believe we have the calves but not the cattle atm, and they will come good, just as will 2 top 10 drafts will be over time.

We're going to get at least 1 x first round player regardless of whether it is pick 8 or 12, a round 2 pick 20 or so plus the important premiership picks #45ish and #75ish

We have a lot of good players waiting in the wings (in order of height) to add to the already impressive bay blues in the first 22:

1. Aisake
2. Hampson
3. Leuenberger (2009)
4. Jacobs

5. Hartlett
6. Jamieson
7. Austin
8. Bower
9. Flint
10. Edwards

11. Benjamin
12. Grigg
13. Raso

14. Anderson
15. Jackson

16. Blackwell

Young?
