That's an incredible feat, especially for the reigning spooner.

So 8,400 more for 35,000; bloody impressive.

Round 1 April Fool's Day is only 12 days away; at 100 per day drops target to 7000 (rounded). When we win that, the momentum will accelerate as will the conversion of supporters to members status.

I'd still love to know how many members we have not counted in that tally; all memberships that include less than 5 games in their package to baby blues.

Another reason the membership tally is high includes the Smorgon election and the voting deadline, Pratt Presidency, proactive marketing and the NAB CUP....but I'd also like to think that the birth of the baby blues has given many hope with the view with enjoyable upside as they develop into stars over a long long time.

If we win 4 of 5 of the first games and start to get a positive media campaign to give our brand some of the pazazz it needs, we will have players spruiking the opportunity to get on board; that's when I will believe we'll get 40,000.

And each and every year and whole generation will mature to be going to Carlton games on their own, and become Carlto members.

When the Commission decide to offer MCC members cheaper entry for dual MCC/AFL team, that figure could boost Carlton memberships by another 10,000; after all Carlton supporters have the 3rd most memberships with the expensive MCC membership hence why they are not Carlton members now.

If all the cards fall right for us I could see 50,000 members in 2008 or 2009.

I made a list of all the Carlton supporters I am family or friends with yesterday:

Of the 40 that I listed, I would say that only around 5 are Carlton members.

I am trying to get them to buy, but the problem is that they are being turned off AFL because of the rule changes and lack of physicality.

I am in the same boat but love Carlton too much, but I am certainly compromised by football these days, I wish they would leave it alone! We were calling it the greatest game 5 years ago but the AFL still changes rules etc every year.

While an increase in our membership is great, and we picked up an extra 440 since the last posting, StKilda's numbers have increase by 689 to 25,999 in the same time frame.
We should be at LEAST third in member numbers for a Vic. club.
I hope all Carlton supporters get on board.

Bondiblue,
Interesting about MCC members numbers and that the Blues supporters have the third highest number of members there.
This will rile a lot of people, but why do MCC members have a right to the MCG while football is played?
Surely they joined a CRICKET club to watch cricket, not football.
How much, if any revenue from 50,000 MCC members goes to football?
Does the Melbourne FC receive any of this?
As an AFL member I joined because I can watch my club each week in Melbourne and that all of that money goes into the Carlton FC and Australian Football.

It's their [MCC Members] god given right to entry into the MCG and sit in the MCC Members stand/areas...footy or cricket.

I don't know the answers to the following, but I'm sure we will be angered by this as footy fans.

I'm pretty sure Melb FC get zip, just as does Carlton and Collingwood...in fact we lose a member because of the arrangement.

The AFL are now looking into this, as the number of members footy teams highlight to sponsors is not a true indication of the number of fans that attend their games, regardless of the team, but it's fair to say Melb FC is hardest hit.

I'm on the MCC waiting list because I want more chances at watching football. :-D

I hold an MCC membership and a CFC membership.

I get to watch all the cricket, and I get better seats @ G games.

In theory I can also go to every game of footy @ the G on the weekend. I think there may be reciprocal rights at TD for MCC members but meh, I'm supporting my club.

You must be a millionaire, Jimmae

As for your question Bluey about re why us MCCers are allowed to watch footy - Well I sure as hell wouldn't pay $500 per annum to watch a couple of p1ssar5e games of cricket. Footy's what pays for about 90% of the running of that stadium.

As I'm a young father of 2, recent years have meant this ticket has cost me about $250 per game  .

Still, wouldn't give it up for anything - the best membership in the world 8) .

If the MCG's income is provided by the footy, why is it called a cricket ground?

For the price of $25 to $28 dollars when the TD members into the G for free.

More footy fans might join up and bypass the MCC altogether if the AFL gave it's heartland a greater chance of obtaining finals and GF tickets.

Having a ticket for every finals game at the G makes it worth the price and guarantees you a better seat for the big H & A games. The MCC membership used to get you a free pass to four to six Carlton games at Princes Park so the club isn't without fault.

Would we lose many members if we moved our home games to the G?

Because the only sound you hear at Pura cup matches is crickets.

Sorry bluey but putting it as politely as I can, you are mis-informed. I am an MCC Member (and CFC Member), and can say categorically that without the financial contribution of MCC Members, the MCG arguably wouldn't exist, at least not in its current state. Excluding the contribution of the State Gvt and AFL to the New Northern Stand (still largely paid by the MCC) and possible Gvt contribution to the Olympic Stand, all the other grandstands have been financed by the MCC. So, you ask what revenue goes into football.... The best stadium in the world is the answer. As the MCC pour so much money into upgrading the ground, it is only fair their members enjoy it throughout the year. Hope this answers your questions...
