We have a pretty decent draw early but cop some harsh travel late in the season that will see us drop away but if we can capitalise on our draw and pre season form in the early part of the season we should be ok

I am bored at work so i decided to do the ladder predictor at http://www.allthestats.com and i came up with this:

West Coast 22 16 6 0 2418 1982 64 121.9 8
W Bulldogs 22 16 6 0 2364 2036 64 116.1 6
St Kilda 22 16 6 0 2308 2092 64 110.3 4
Sydney 22 14 8 0 2332 2068 56 112.7
Carlton 22 13 9 0 2119 2281 52 92.8
Fremantle 22 12 10 0 2324 2076 48 111.9
Adelaide 22 12 10 0 2224 2176 48 102.2
Geelong 22 12 10 0 2220 2180 48 101.8
-----------------------------------------
Melbourne 22 12 10 0 2212 2188 48 101.0
Collingwood 22 12 10 0 2208 2192 48 100.7
Port Adel 22 11 11 0 2210 2190 44 100.9
Bris Lions 22 11 11 0 2166 2234 44 96.9
Hawthorn 22 7 15 0 2078 2322 28 89.4
Richmond 22 5 17 0 1999 2401 20 83.2
Essendon* 22 4 18 0 2024 2376 16 85.1
Kangaroos 22 3 19 0 1994 2406 12 82.8

Optimistic yes - but i tried not to be too favourable to us - i gave us the following

R1 : MCG Beat Richmond by 18 points
R2 : Telstra Beat Geelong by 6 points
R3 : MCG beat Essendon* by 6 points
R4 : Subiaco lose to West Coast by 80 points
R5 : Telstra beat Brisbane by 6 points
R6 : Telstra lose to St Kilda by 30 points
R7 : MCG beat Collingwood by 6 points
R8 : Carrara beat Kangaroos by 18 points
R9 : Telstra beat Adelaide by 6 points
R10 : MCG lose to Western Bulldogs by 30 points
R11 : Telstra beat Port by 18 points
R12 : Telstra beat Hawthorn by 18 points
R13 : Subiaco lose to Fremantle by 50 points
R14 : MCG beat Melbourne by 6 points
R15 : SCG lose to Sydney by 50 points
R16 : GABBA lose to Brisbane by 30 points
R17: Telstra lose to St Kilda by 30 points
R18 : MCG lose to Collingwood by 18 points
R19 : AAMI lose to Port by 18 points
R20 : MCG beat Essendon* by 30 points
R21 : Telstra beat Kanagaroos by 30 points
R22 : MCG beat Melbourne by 6 points

I'll buy that!

It will be very interesting to see how we go throughout the season with a lot of new blood in the side. At the moment I seem to think our team compares to St. Kilda and Western Bulldogs of a few years ago, they drafted some young kids with short term pain but now they are almost a given to play Finals each year...

I'm not sure if we will make the 8 but a lot of people (including the media) forget that we were competitive in a fair few games last year and often losing because of one bad quarter of football. Games against West Coast @ Subiaco and Sydney @ Telstra Dome we both should have won.

Also IF we manage to win on Saturday night I am not going to get carried away thinking a straight up win in Round 1 - the AFL Season is a whole new kettle of fish!

I only have a few goals that I want to see the team achieve this year:

- Marc Murphy to play a full season
- Carlton to be competitive in most games
- Possibly defeat Geelong & St. Kilda?
- A Carlton player to win the 'Rising Star' award

This is the ladder I came up with:

Quote:
Sydney
Fremantle
Adelaide
West Coast
Western Bulldogs
Melbourne
Geelong
Carlton
St. Kilda
Port Adelaide
Brisbane
Collingwood
Hawthorn
Essendon*
Richmond
Kangaroos

Hopefully between us we are somewhere in the ballpark 8)

Looks like the scum will get first use of the priority pick for winning less than 4 games 2 years in a row :(

Hows about doing the stats for the Top 8 using those same figures?

Weagles V Blues @ Subi Saturday Night
Dogs V Docs @ G Saturday
Sainters V Crows @ Dome Friday Night
Ducks V Cats @ Sydney Olympic Stadium Sunday

huh - is this from my ladder ? cos the finals wouldnt play out like that, it would be :

week 1

Eagles v Swans - Eagles to win by 6
Bulldogs v St Kilda - Bulldogs to win by 18

Carlton v Geelong - Carlton to win by 18
Fremantle v Adelaide - Fremantle to win by 30

week 2

St Kilda v Carlton - St Kilda to win by 18
Swans v Fremantle - Swans to win by 18

week 3

Eagles v St Kilda - Eagles to win by 6
Bulldogs v Swans - Bulldogs to win by 18

week 4

Eagles v Bulldogs - Bulldogs to win by 6

( not sure if i got the cross overs right - so it could all be wrong  )

Just estimated the first week using your ladder ... knew I would get it wrong..

At least two weeks of finals is better than we've been used to since 2003 ..

Personally I would prefer another 2 picks in the top 4 of the 2007 National Draft rather than Pick 12.

Good work, grrofunger.

But thought you were just slightly optimistic.

I would take about 2 of those wins off us giving Carlton something like 11 wins for the season rather than 13.

This would probably have us finishing just outside the 8.

And you won't believe the dream I had last night .. I was watching the Grand Final, Us v Scum, and we were trouncing them .. sigh ..

I don't think this discussion was that serious, though ..

David Schwartz on SEN today predicted us to finish 8th.

That means we have no hope of making the finals

i had us finishing 13th, i don't think we should get too far ahead of ourselves so we don't get too heartbroken if thing don't go to plan, anything below 13th will be a fail for us though.
