What is the obsession with Wiggins. He is an average footballer.............

I will be pissed if he comes in at the expense of some young guy.....

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!
I am a Wiggins fan and would love to see him play as I reckon he offers a hard body around the packs. His delivery to players at about 40 metres is better than Walker's for example (I am not suggesting he replace Walker, by the way) and he is young. He has been around the club playing off and on since he was 17 so seems a bit older. I would have him in the team instead of Jackson, who can't play during the regular season anyway.

Wiggins annoys me... Not being able to cement a senior spot despite being at the club for ages says it all... I totally agree that we've moved past the need for him... As far as im concerned hes in the same basket as Bannister and Teague :P

Good post Sombrero.

I love the way Wiggins goes about it, and he has improved markedly each year he's been on the list. (Yeah, yeah, I know - some of you will say "So he might be good by the time he's 50". ) I see him as a better version of Carrazzo but only when Carrazzo plays forward - he's hard, he takes a good mark, he's a decent shot for goal. Plus he's disciplined, a good tagger type wherever he plays on the field. You can't have all offensive and no defensive midfielders. It doesn't work that way.

Plus with him in the "Leadership Group" the MC abd players obviously both see something in him that he will be able to add to the squad.

Lastly, Wiggins was the pre-Murphy Murphy. A GOD AMONG MEN :P

possibly wiggins in for russell IMO, and kennedy maybe in at the expense of harlett but it should be fisher if it was based on form.

I'd actually think if it was based on form Whitnall should be out for Kennedy.

JR is the new run with player this year. Doubt he would be dropped for performing a team role.

Russ won't be dropped.

Jackson may make way for Blackwell.

Or will it be Kennedy for Jackson?

I'll be bloody annoyed if it's Kennedy for Hartlett.

Wiggins proved he can be a handy forward who drops into a hole in the forward line, and doesn't warrant the opposition's good defenders.

Allan Jeans always said they there is always room for "some soldiers" in a team that now has a few stars.

WHITNALL!!! :-D

See the article about him on Inside Football, wondering if he will be the first victim as AFL speed has increased in years that will finish players, they also listed Anthony Rocca also in the article,be interesting to see how they can adapt to it.

Has the game sped up that much over the off season :? because he seemed to handle himself okay last year and the one before that. Fact is, the expeerts have been saying the game has 'passed him by' for 4 years. Every year he proves them wrong.

Modern football needs;
Smarts
Speed
Strength
Balance
Awareness
Ability

Lance ticks all boxes bar one, and I think we're all aware of what that is

We will always need a Whitnall type, a natural footballer rather than the team filled with the BS athlete.

you tall poppy syndrome sufferers are at it again. Lance has played a couple of half games, being rested by the coach. This doesn't equate to poor form it equates to being rested by the coach in preparation for the season proper. Once again he is our Captain and in the top couple of players at the club and will again figure in the top couple in the bet and fairest. Despite is lack of speed he is very versatile and a very good mark. If he plays permanent forward he will kick 50 goals this year...no question..Add that to Fev's 80+ and a contribution from the younger forwards then it makes a pretty handy line up. Lance Whitnall would get a game at any other club right now no question. Some people just don't value what they have. I would have thought Kouts's form was worse than Whitnall's.

As for Wiggins well I've never rated this guy. He offers nothing but a bit of hardness, but without skill and good disposal thats not very much. I agree with previous posters. He was ok and just ok when we have a team of Wiggins', but there is no place for him now. Fancy discussing whether to drop up and coming players like Jackson, Bower and Hartlett just to fit in a guy like Wiggins. He along with Teague, Bannister, McLaren and possibly Saddington will struggle to play many games this year.

..i dig the big red, and more's the point he supports fev up forward.. ..what he does up forward, is one of two things.. ..he either attracts the opposition's second top defender, therefore preventing fev from being double-teamed.. ..or he doesn't, meaning he's either got a lesser defender and pants them, or he runs loose across half-forward.. ..which no opposition coach can afford.. ..at the very least, he's a very effective decoy.. ..sure pace-wise he's not speedy gonzales but he doesn't need to be.. ..that's the kicker, it seems nowadays everyone's obsessed with fielding a team of carl lewis'.. ..when in reality we need a balance..

Harts and JK are both IN.

I was watching as players came off the track after training today and the body language tells me that Bower, Jacko and Grigg missed the cut.

The fourth player to miss will probably be Wiggo or Blackie - but that is pure guesswork.

Most of us who post infrequently here have worked out that Synbad is a the ultimate eventual "I TOLD YOU SO". You'll note that his post count is high when we perform poorly & his post count drops right off when we play well - the definitive doomsdayer!!! THE SKY IS FALLING IN, THE SKY IS FALLING IN!

The longer he bags Lance, the sooner he'll eventually be correct that he's too slow for the modern game. Many ill-informed journalists did a similar thing before Diesels eventual retirment. Most will remember Synbad make similar boring claims this time last year - yes one day you'll be right Synbad - but in the mean-time, you're just a boring irrelevance.

If we win on Saturday night, i bet you get pissed off & don't post here for a couple of days - WANNA BET????

I feel that Carlton has played Wiggens wrongly as a tagger in the back line, which he is nowhere near being one, if they play him in the forward line especially now that he's bulked up a lot, we will see a new Wiggens this year.
