1995 - vs Rich MCG. 85k. Beautiful weather & an awesome atmosphere. After a string of big MCG matches in the 90s against Ess & Coll there was just something about a massive game against the Tigers. We put our foot down in the final qtr of a gripping game with Braddles kicking the sealer on the run. Lived with Tiger supporters at the time & loved it.

Was that the day that Earl Spalding hip & shouldered Paul Bullus into the interchange bench? I seem to remember that game as the "Voice of the G" came up to me outside the ground asking what I thought about clubs merging... (as if I cared?!?)

1990 - vs Geelong at PP. The game I always crap on about in these threads . 41 points down at half time, we won by 19. Sticks 5 goals in the 3rd qtr. I lived in Geel at the time so it was sooooo sweet.

I think this was a game when they swung SOS into attack in the 3rd qtr. I was watching on TV and remember the commentator (Ian Robertson I think?) getting pretty excited and delivering the following as SOS goaled:

"Silvagni, 50 metres out, left foot - WOOHOO!!"

For some reason has always stuck in my mind.

I better get a copy of that game on DVD before Channel 7 erase it from their archives.

Ck this was the game that before the match the media calculated how much the tigers had to beat us by to make the finals, I think it was about 35 points, we beat them by about 10 goals. Beaumont kicked a goal after about 6 bounces running into a completely open forward line after getting the ball in the back line - I was sure he would miss.

I'd have to say the game against Collingwood for the 100 anniversary was also a major highlight.

1. Carlton vs Essendon* - Prelim '99
say no more

2. Carlton vs Collingwood - circa '79 Princes Park
Stan Magro runs through Jezza in front of the Hawthorn Stand and our captain coach is taken off on a stretcher after which we come from behind and win the game.

3. Carlton vs. West Coast - circa 2000 Subiaco
Silvagni plays a blinder having been switched to full forward kicking multiple goals in the last quarter including one where he almost kills himself with a neck breaking dive and tumble to mark the ball.

99 Prelim

95 GF

Rd 21, 2004 - last win at Princes Park. Carrazzo's debut. Some moments of utter brilliance - Davies' goal, Waite's athleticism in setting up Morrell for what should have been a goal right on 3QT, Kouta being Kouta, it was all good.

2008 GF - Not sure what stands out the most but certainly Fev's 7 goals straight, Walker's run along the boundary bouncing 6 times and then slotting it from the impossible angle with a wrong foot banana, and Murph's smother, one handed pickup, shrug off of the tackle and calmly passing to JFK alone in the goal square for the 10th goal of the 2nd quarter were highlights.

Pure Gold :!: :!: :!: LOL

1. Carlton v Adelaide 2005. AAMI. The game that got Gary Ayres sacked! Fev's 50m+ goal to win by 4 points. leaving the ground was errie! 40,000 people, completly silent except 4 me singing the blues theme song :!:

2. Carlton v Port 2001. AAMI. Sat in the port members area with my blues jumper on. Dished it out to anyone that would listen or argue(!) all game, ended up winning by about 40 points!

3. All the Carlton v Essendon* games @ the G that I got to from 93 to 98. Got to 4-5 games and Carlton won every 1 of them!! Being the black sheep in an Essendon* family, loved telling them all about when I got home!!

Hmmmmmmmmm. It's a tough one for me as i've only been watching Carlton since 96'. Sure, i've seen plenty of games prior to that and own quite a few name-a-games but my favourites are more in the last decade or so.

Just a few, in no-particular order.

1999 Prelim:-
I don't think i really need to mention anything else!

2000 Vs North Melbourne:-
Chris Judd could well go down as the greatest midfielder of all time, and rightly so too, but nobody could ever play a more dominating game than Kouta could at his best............and this was one of his best! I hadn't seen anything quite like that before and i haven't since anything quite like it since and probably won't see anything quite like it again for a very long time!

2004 Vs Collingwood.
Rn22, last game of the season, neither team has any chance of making the finals & it is pretty much a dead rubber game.............but somebody forgot to tell the players and the fans that!
60,000 people on a cold night came to watch a brilliantly fought game by both sides who prove just why it is they are so well Loved / Hated & Respected by all!
Many teams have tried to better this rivalry, Sydney & West Coast for example, and they may have some great battles, but nothing will ever beat a match of Carlton Vs Collingwood.

and we beat em by a point! :o  :o

2000 Vs Brisbane.
Whitnall kicks 9 goals (or was it 10)? & Kouta has another blinder including that amazing look-away handball over the top of his head to a running Ang who sloted it through for a goal!

97 (or 96' - i forget) Vs West Coast @ Princes Park (well, half of it anyway!)
Kouta's dominance all day & how the very small crowd made it sound like 100,000 + people chanting his name!

And of course our dominance in the 95' grand final................

I wasn't going to mention that one because i was technically a Fitzroy supporter, but because of my Dad & brother i had a soft spot for the Blues.
Kouta was BOG in my eyes with Diesel followed closly by SOS who amazed me! Brilliant!

But as ol' Blue Eyes Sintra says.........................'The best is yet to come'

Oh - And an honerable mention to the game Vs West Coast last season whcih we lost!
We beat the eventual premiers all day but just lost our way in the last due to what i still believe is stupid coaching! But our boys showed some balls and i can still rememeber getting turned on by Murphy!

I've got this feeling that Murph is going to give us some brilliant memories.

1968 Grand Final was the first game I saw Carlton play, so that's an important event....especially now that I hate the Bumbers.

But the best 3 (bloody hard when considering a powerhouse full of champions playing superb games of Aussie Rules) since 1968. So in order I guess it would be:

1. 1970 GF
2. 1972 GF
3. 1995 GF

4. 1987 GF
5. 1982 GF
6. 1981 GF
7. 1979 GF
7. 1968 GF
8. 1969 game vs hawks we kicked 30.30
9. 1999 Prelim
10.1995 Prelim

That was a great 1st half. people thought Brisbane were going to be a tough team to play that day but we totally slaughtered them in the 1st half. That Kouta/Ang goal was one of the best team-mate setup goals I have ever seen!!
Hmm if someone could put this on bluetube i'd be a happy fella.

He almost hit the post actually!

Sticks1977 I remember that Robbo commentary too - funny stuff. Not sure how many brownlow votes SOS got that day but he turned the game & narrowly missed winning the medal to Libba. Dominic Fotia actually got the 3 votes

Agro if you do happen to track down where to get a copy of it could you let me know please mate, cheers.

I remember that now! A bloody scrubber of a kick from about 5 metres out. It was Mercuri-esque :P

Amazed no one got near him during his 100m run though

This is'nt a favourite game of mine, just one that has stuck in my head for years and years.

Problem is i remember very little of it.

Was against Nth Melbourne circa '88 '89 (could be wrong) at Princes Park.
We were down by about 16 odd points with like 3 mins left. We left the Social club as we thought it was game over and by the time it took to walk from our seats to gate 1 we had slammed on 3 goals to win by a few points

Gleeson kicked the winner with seconds left before siren.

Does anyone recall this game??? Its been doing my head in for all these years.

Hands down easily the best three bluehammer!

Close 4th: Carl v Ess draw - Sticks complete miss after the siren.
Was at the game. Most amazing atmosphere when the siren went before that famous kick.

Snickers I recall this game perfectly, 34 minute mark, bear roved the ball perfectly off the pack to slam it through from close range, crowd goes crazy siren goes and North are left complaining about the time keeper. was definately in 1989 - I sat behind the goals where the winner was kicked.

I remember every one mentioned since '68 GF
One game not mentioned, can't remember exact date
but early 2003(rnd 6?)
Wayne Brittain coaching V Essadumscum
Bradley, Campo SOS all late withdrawls
we still win
Lappin mark on the goal line
Lappin 80metere torp to empty half of ground
Mercuri forgets about Lappin late 40 metres away
Scum supporters were devo revisited haunting of 99PF

Like a number of others, I won't include finals. I have been lucky enough to see 1979, 1981, 1982 and 1995 live. 1987 I saw in London. I missed out on tickets in 1972. The Night GFs have also been a highlight, as we had not won one of these until 1983.

Probably my favourate game was against Collingwood back in the late 70's. We started poorly and had Jezza KO'd by Stan Magro. That was it: from then on Collingwood were toast, although they hadn't realised it. The longer the game went, the better we played, to run right over the top of Collingwood. Beautiful!

My very first game was at the MCG against Melbourne in 1970. I was 9 years old, sitting in the old Southern Stand. Jezza kicked his 100th goal for the season that day, I think it was in the last quarter, after having missed 3 or 4 shots. At least 2 were touched on the line. I can remember the crowd starting out at least twice, only to go back as the ball didn't get over the line.
It was a pretty regulation win, but I had never seen a footy game live to that point and was hooked. I just about wore the footy record out over the next few years. There is nothing like your first game.

The 1994 win against the Weagles at Carlton was another I won't forget. They were touted as unbeatable, but we creamed them in just about every aspect. Bradley's run around the win and banana goal were awe inspiring.

Very memorable game.

I fly into Melbourne to watch that night game.
Mates picks me up, and try to convince me to not go to the game, and go out on the town.
They tell me the above 3 are all out...I thought they were kidding.
On radio I hear those 3 are out. Stuff that I'm still going to watch Carlton win.
They want a bet. 3 of them $100 each 3 goals in. No worries.
I refuse the invite to go out with them, and they drop me at the ground, bags still in their car and running late.caught up with other mates just before the siren.
I don't know but I just had a feeling we were going to win; it was only the Bumbers.
Made lots of long standing bets with mates who barrack for the bumbers.
Cleaned them out of pocket too....again.
Went out after the game on cloud 9, caught up with the girls from my old nightclub, rang my mates who were out on the town. Told them I was with the girls.
They wanted to join me. I said them that we could but on one proviso; bring the $100 each and I'll tell them where I was.
Oh what a night!
But there has been heaps of them since '68.
