Brizzie Blue, I love this sort of analysis these days when we have depth in youthful talent, and bugger all old players.

I've got my versions of inevitable change and it's pretty close to BB's. If BB's team was the one that pans out then I would have the taller Hartlett in a FP and the faster running and good mark Fisher playing further up the ground (as he's ding now).

I understand there is good reason to leave them as BB has them, and the obvious one, to me, is that Hartlett being a prodigious kick (when on song) can have shots from beyond 50 to overcome a flooded forward line (against say Crows), and Fishers good marking would hurt the opposition if he was taking them closer to goals (within his range).

My previous analysis (in some other thread) points out that at the close of every season, a minimum 3 players must be delisted/retired/traded (and they can be redrafted); it is an AFL prerequisite that before the trade period that a minimum of 3 players must be taken off the list.

So I would suggest the minimum 3 for each season would be as follows (player age in the next season is in brackets):

2007: McLaren (26) & Teague (27) (delisted), Kouta (34) (retired)
2008: Saddington (29), Bannister (26)(delisted), Lappin (34) (retired)
2009: Whitnall (30) (retired), Scotland (29) and (has to be a young player)
2010: Ackland (29)

Note: only indicative and likely, but not necessarily in that order

So somewhere along the line, and I suspect, if not at the end of this season, but at least as from the end of 2009, a young player on the list will be inevitably delisted, unless in the meantime we recruit retreads that fail.

I don't believe Ross Young will make it, and expect 200+cm players in Hampson, Jacobs and Aisake will overtake current 196 cm ruckmen Ackland and Cloke within the next 3 years.

It's very unlikely much rookies will be promoted from this year list, possibly ohailpin brother and Jackson at years end and if i had to take a sot who would get pomoted out of the others from this group on a second year i would say michael Jamison, shows a bit already but hopefully Jacobs will turn out,as much Ross Young might plays ok i doubt they will put him on the list after the end of this year and will be shocked if after the year next when there isn't much players dropped.

Good point Rambo. The rookies are the x factor in the delistings scenario.

I have no doubt that Aisake and Jackson will be promoted, and Jamieson can stay in the rookies for one more year (and stay a Blue).

Next year we would be crazy if we didn't take at least 3 new picks in the first 2-3 rounds of the draft. As a result, with 2 rookie promotions and a minimum 3 new draftees that implies there should be 5 delistings /trades/ retirees at season's end.

Who could they be? I suspect it will be:

Teague (trade), Kouta (retire), McLaren (trade), Bannister (trade) and Saddington (trade)/ Lappin (retire)... (with Lappin maybe given a one year contract if he has a strong 2007).

If that happens, we will have the youngest list in the AFL, with Whitnall being the oldest player on the list 28 next year (notwithstanding the possibility of Lappin remaining and turning 33 in 2007), followed by Scotland and Stevens both turning 27.

Just goes to show why we are a completely new club since the Black Friday nightmare in 2002. 5 years later and we have a lot to look forward to.

Go The Baby Blues.

Go The Carlton arrogance.
