Gee, maybe we could fly O'rally over and parade him before the game too

Suppose we'll get an idea of what our current board thinks of Darth Ron's involvement in the penalties though

"Boo-ing" isn't the right way to go about it. But we can do a silent protest that has occurred in other sporting codes (soccer in England).

If it goes ahead, we can launch a campaign to get every Carlton supporter to TURN THEIR BACK ON THE GROUND when the Evans tribute is on.

No shouting, no noise. Just 35-40,000 Bluebaggers with their backs to the playing field. Would be powerfully symbolic.

Sheffield Wednesday got their manager sacked with a similar protest years ago - looks very powerful when done well.

Thats what i would support.

Make no mistake, the media are all in the Evans for Sainthood camp. Disrespecting him by booing would backfire badly on our public image

Although turning our backs is classier than booing it will also be seen as a slap in the face to Ron Evans.

This is a lose-lose situation for us. If we allow it to happen and the fans boo or turn their backs or whatever it will be terrible PR. If we refuse to have the tribute it will also look bad.

Me thinks if they ask us officially we will have to say yes, and the fans will have to just grin and bear it. Nothing gained by appearing ungracious, even though we have good reason to be.

Just say "We're considering how best to honour Ron Evans"

Then do nothing.

Even if the food was half price to honour Ron Evans, it would still be dearer that at 7 11.

I dislike Ron Evans but cannot see an easy way that the tribute could be avoiding without negative publicity.

Carlton inflicting a big loss on Essendon* is really the only acceptable form of making a statement here.

Also all blues fans should boycott the catering that day. Hard for the alcohol i know but bring your own food or eat maccas before the game

I think a set aside day boycotting the catering is a great idea. Apparently the clubs get no $$ at all from home ground catering (I think some kind of profit share might go into the AFL pool).

If they decide to have the Ron Evans tribute that game I can think of no better protest.

QFT!

I will be interested to see the board's reaction to this proposal.

Here's hoping there is no reaction!

P.S. -- Was anyone else annoyed at the minutes silence before the North Melboune vs Carlton game in honour of great Ron? And the black arm bands? In my book a minute of silence is only applicable for the most sensitive / important rememberance occasions.

Was it an AFL or Carlton - N Melb idea . . ?

Or am I just an insensitive prick . . ?

Perhaps the best thing to do would be just to rock up a bit late.

Get to the ground bang on 2pm in time for the match itself….sure there would be queues & you might miss part of the first qtr. You might miss out on your favorite seat.

But you'd also get to peacefully boycott the on screen display, minute's silence etc if that's what you want to do, & just leave the Essendon* fans to enjoy their little love in by themselves. And we wouldn't be seen to be booing or turning our backs….because we wouldn't @#$%&! be there at all!!

The main thing is you'd be there for the bit where messrs Walker, Simpson, & Fevola run rings around the Campos, Michaels, Fletchers etc. of the world….

A protest is just a recipe for disaster.

All the good work the club has done over the past couple of months will come tumbing down in the eyes of the football world.

You think Ron Evans did the wrong thing by CFC?

Wait till you see the reaction against this.

Who said anything about Ron Evans doing the wrong thing by CFC?

Leaving the draft penalties and fines aside - the most galling aspect is just the gross hypocracy of honouring a man who lined his pockets by ripping off the average football supporter by grossly overcharging for food and beverages at AFL Venues, buying catering companies that he had prior knowledge of would gain lucrative catering contracts because AFL games would be fixtured at those venues and being President of a club that was involved in serial salary cap breaches but didnt have the guts to take the wrap for and left it to his is successors to cop the blame for albeit with a wet lettuce leaf punishment which he administered.

But other than that what a great guy. :x

That sounds like a good idea. Or it could be a good time to go to the toilet.

Yep, I like Mrs Cazs' idea the best.

We rock up late then all storm on to the G during the minute's silence & take a crap

Worked for me last Saturday Night whilst they played out that pitiful charade prior to the game starting at Carrara.
