Yes that's right. Champion data (AFL Prospectus). Walker made the most clanger kicks of anyone in the AFL in 2006. That's what their stats said.

That's raw statistics. It only tells part of the story. There are players out there that never kick more than about 30m and go sideways most of the time. They'd almost never clock up a "clanger" but don't do a lot of good for their team either.

Absolutely. Which is why I said Maybe he just makes more errors. To start with, the more kicks you have the more likely you are to make an error. Which is why I went to the trouble of putting them all per disposal.

Does anyone think Bannister has the best disposal at the club? A lot of it's about risk taking and the more risks you take, the more likely you are to make an error (Isn't that right Effes!)

So the raw stat that he has the most clangers in the AFL provided in the prospectus is meaningless - the percentages you showed are far more meaningful and only go to backing up that there are worse out there than Walker and thats only in our team ! let alone the rest of the league.

Thanks for that !

I think it was 35 from 270 kicks (13%) but I'm sure there would have been many players with fewer kicks but more clangers as %.

AW is one of my favorite players. Few points:

- His preparation is second to none.
- He seems to be his own worst critic, if there are any flaws there. Rest assured he is doing what he can to rectify it.
- Much rather have him taking on the opposition and mis-delivering occasionally rather than him not taking on the opposition. When he masters the ability to deliver accurately at full speed... he will be AW-some!!!!

Means nothing of the sort.Hoggy33 is entitled to his point of view as much as I, or any other TC contributor.

Just be glad that we are talking about Walker(an out and out gun with a huge upside) rather than Prendaghast or McGrath when it comes to turnovers and clangers. THE KID CAN PLAY!!!

I just finished wathcing the game and i thought Walker was certainly in our best, maybe even our best 3 for the match!

I know he's kicks go wayward everynow and then but geez, so does most of our team!

Walker played well tonight! I enjoyed it!

Not that this matters because nothing will change the minds of some , here comes the second half:

Walker:

Good: Mark from houlihan in D50 to switch play - 30m kick pass to O'Hailpin
Good: Recieve from houlihan runs out of D50 and kicks 40m to wing in front of Kennedy in a contest - Kennedy doesnt quite make it - out of bounds for a throw in ( called to no one by commentators - i see nothing wrong at all with this kick or selection of where to kick it )
Good: Weave and run out of last line of defence handball to Murphy
Good: Running out of D50 kicks forward precisely to Waite who runs straight under it and it goes straigt through his hands(wonder how many blame walks for this  )
Good: Streaming past Waite at ful pace receives handball on HBF runs down wing - PULLS KICK and it lands precisely in front of Carazzo who is able to turn and kick to Cloke streaming forward ( Commentator calls it a poor kick - it looks deliberate to me and clever as it allowed carrotts to escape the contest and shake free ) if this is what constitutes a clanger according to Champion Data - forget those stats all together
Good: Receives kick in on HBF from Simmo - chips to Carazzo - does put Carazzo under pressure however
Good : Walker receives handball back fro Carazzo storms through 2 defenders giving a dont argue fend off runs into the middle and handballs off to Jacko - earning the praise of Walls - leads to a shot on goal for Fev who has a brain freeze and handballs off to simmo for a 9 point attempt

3/4 TIME : I see nothing wrong with any of those possessions yet read some reports and Walks had a shocker of a quarter !??! not sure what people are watching?

Good : Last line of defence - spins out of trouble and handballs off
Good : Keeps running receives handball - attracts defenders and fires off handball to running scotland to clear the D50
Good: Spoils marking contest - goes through for behind - receives kick in from Stevens on far HBF turns chips to Lappin who gathers on half volley then kicks out on full under minimal pressure
Good: recieves handball on hbf runs full tilt through the middle and pinpoints kick pass to Kouta at CHF - earns more praise from commentators
Good: Busting through pack bangs onto left foot - 35 m to 50/50 contest that spills to ground in the middle- stevens earns free kick in contest and we are away

GAME OVER - dunno what people are watching honestly - only 2 major errors all game that led to any advantage for the opposition - GREAT GAME BY A YOUNG GUN

Murphy:

Good: Great hands again pick up from first tap - throws on boot clears to space at CHF
Good : Sewell turns it over under pressure - murphy recieves and handballs to running GIBBS(long to fevola GOAL)
Good: Receives from Walker attemps to handball across to O'Hailpin - slung FREE ! - Handballs back to running Walker ( THEY ARE WAXING !!)
Good: Intercepts Franklin handball - kicks long from centre into F50 straight to Fev who drops a contested mark
Good: Recieves handball from Gibbs runs past - shakes a defender and kicks into space in front a leading Waite who gathers and turns ( no comment from commentator about the ball dropping short etc etc ) Waite kicks it out on the full to a fan 8 rows back in the crowd - escapes with a downfield free- FISH nails the impossible
Good : receives free kick in the centre for high contact and being slung - chips to HFF to Betts
Good : Picks up on F50 line from Jacko rushing it forward spins and kicks it to whitnall contest that hawks win

3/4 TIME - Another polished quarter

Good : Recieves handball from Saddington running out of defence - draws defender and handballs back to Scotlans
Bad : Receives handball back from Scotland turns and kicks to no one just lands inside field of play
Good: Murphy recieves hospital pass under pressure - shrugs and shimmys shakes tackle handballs back to cloke
Good : Streeaming through middle - chips across to carazzo cleverly on wing

GAME OVER : polished performance from a star

WELL THERE YA GO - make of it what you will - hang me out to dry and crucify me

Walker was definitely in our best 3 for that game.

Absolutely no doubt about that. And Murphy would lay claim to a top 3 spot as well.

One of the most bizzare things I've seen online lately came from over at BigFooty. It was last week, and it was headed something like 'do Carlton fans overrate Andrew Walker?'. Then all of these supposed Carlton fans lined up and took it in turns to stick the boots into 1AW.

Fair dinkum I'm sick of it!

This kid almost never gets beaten in a one-on-one contest with some of the country's elite footballers, and here are some of our fans sitting around and whinging that we should have picked McLean or Sylvia. Get a grip people! The kid is twenty!!! Heaps of improvement to come, and he is already awfully good!

As for the kicking - I dare say that if we were a team who had the skills to apply a solid gameplan that you would find 1AW would hit a lot more targets than he misses.

Give Andrew Walker a break... and be thankful he plays for the navy Blues!

Don't put me in that bracket, I've been this guys number one defender since he came to the club. Drives me flower mental how he gets treated. I think he will end up around the Judd status in a couple of years, when he is 23

Well I think you've been his number 2 defender since he came to this club.

DOA's got you for number 1 I'm afraid.

LOVE THE GUY though. Watch him cut sick in 2008.

Very happy to be out done on the "I support Walker" front. Does this include the BigFooty site?

Great bump.

Tex is a ripper.

He's going to be so difficult to match up on when teams are thinking about Judd, Stevens, Murphy, Gibbs. He and Gibbs will be able to switch from the midfield to defence to shake tags and still be as effective at half back as they are in the midfield.

They are both outstanding prospects for the club..

Murphy is far superior with his disposal, about that there is no doubt.

Walker's disposal has improved quite a bit, and will continue to get better with more experaince.

One could say that Murphy's superior composure allows him to use the footy better, but i think in the end he is just more gifted at using the ball......

The best kickers have always shared these things in common:

They have a deep deep passion for kicking a T.W.Sherrin since their childhood (I'm talking about compulsively, when there is no footy, substitutes are always found  )...
This intern gives them the edge due to "Football Saturation".

How to pick these guys out?

These are the guys who ALWAYS have a footy in their hands......
