I reckon that Benny McGlynn from the Hawks may have been in our best tonight.

Fair dinkum, could he have turned the ball over or be caught holding the ball any more?

Obviously had Sticks on his bedroom wall growing up.

Good to win but it wasn't a very good win. Our turnover was very costly.
We got killed in the centre, our midfield is quite slow compare to their's.

Was Whitnall on the bench most of the time? 2 weeks in a row he has been very quiet.

hawks had a few players out.. five players that will slot in the their starting line up... we fielded our best side...they had campbell brown, croad, joel smith, ladson, dixon with xavier ellis still to come into the side.

I thought it was an ok game . Our defence has been the biggest improved area so far.
In relation to the Launceston ground it is too flower big. Both sides seemed so stuffed by the end of it. Would be interested at the scores in previous games there. They always seem low scoring.

I get what you are saying but It was much more satisfying than our 2005 nab, it wasn't just the Fev/Whitnall show, in fact Fev wasn't that great, it was a team effort and I was so proud of them. If this was the H&A season we'd be jumping on the '4pts' bandwagon, I know it wasn't but there were some impressive things out there tonight. I have been so scared about Kennedy and how he will end up, well tonight he really showed me alot.....personally, that was enough in itself to make my night a happy one. :-D

hawthorn with a midfield of crawford, joel smith, hodge, mitchell, bateman, ladson are going to smash many teams this year..

having said that stevo was sensational again two weeks in a row and murph is a gun,

Waite and Setanta will be great in defence for us with Thornton.

Murphy's just a star. He definately would have been the Rising Star last year if he hadn't have gotten injured mid-season. He's just a gun, and has great ones at that. What an asset.

Gibbs did well tonight. Ackland too.

Thought it was a good team effort though we still have more work ahead of us.

Was really happy with Ackland, Murphy, o'hAilpin, Stevens (even if he's looking more and more like Strauchanie every day) and Simmo.

Saddo was great in the last quarter, but did nothing all game otherwise. Kennedy is starting to show a bit. The holding of the marks and the set shots on goal aren't quite there yet, but the willingness to roam up the ground, create space and a focal point help things very well.

Russell's starting to find his niche around the half forward area as a defensive forward, really did some nice things tonight, set the standard for forward line pressure, in the absence of Wiggins.

Thornton worked his way into the game well after a shaky first half. Starting to bob up, up forward a bit now too which is encouraging.

Waite was very good on Franklin. Kept him quiet after an explosive start.

I don't see any point in playing the vets in Lappin, Whitnall and Kouta next week. Contributed very little tonight.

Bentick and Walker had nights they'd rather forget. Bentick completely outclassed by Mitchell, Walker shown up for a lack of accountability on Boyle, and paid the price with 4 kicked on him.

Jackson was good down back in the last quarter as well, combined with Stevens a couple of times for some nice passages of play.

Walker started on Boyle, and I believe Saddo got moved onto him in the last.

Admittedly, most of the goals came from midfield turnovers, Walker wasn't seen anywhere near Boyle.

Loving how he's becoming our David King though.

What game were you watching!!!!!!

Saddo was shit and and was forced to use tactics that went out of the game 10 years ago.

Russell is a soft cock and i would have taken Ports 5th round draft pick for him (I wouldn't mind anouther Joe Anderson)

Bentick only played a abit of the game on Mitchell and found he's feet in towards the end of the game (Lets not forget that Bentick has only had a half a pre season if that and Mitchell is a class player)

AND Tex was in the top 5 best on ground! Boyle is a shit kicker and always will be! Tex was covering 3 players and it's Walkers fault????

Given the structure of Hawthorn's forward set up, with the 4 talls anchored in the forward 50, and no-one within kooee otherwise, I felt it made sense. Played on Boyle a lot tighter, and was a cool head down back at a crucial time in the game.

I'm not a huge Russell fan either, but tonight had a very good first half. Chases hard, and has bloody good 2nd and 3rd efforts. You can't fault him for persistence.

I'd have preferred to have kept Stevens opposed to him, and made him play more accountable, especially when Fev was starting to get on top of Dawson in the 3rd. Mitchell is a bloody good player, but at the same time, for a bloke who's considered by the majority of Blues fans to be a starting player in our midfield, he was well out of his depth tonight.

Top 5 best on ground? Geez, wouldn't go that far mate. Murph, Ackland, Stevens, Mitchell, Simpson, Crawford all had better games IMO.

Where was he covering 3 players?

Worked his way into the game after half time, but still gave Boyle far too much freedom (and possibly our midfield too much credit to not turn the ball over so much). A shit kicker like Boyle shouldn't kick 4.

Walker was the only pkayer that stayed back in the back line. Had to spread himself between T- Brids man and sometimes Jarrods man when we screwed up. The ball rebounded fast into our backline. Only cause T-Bird screwd up one kick and so did the son of Vin. The first goal was the only one the Boyal kicked on Tex

Bentick looked fantastic in the number 7.

Another scrappy win which indicates top me a hard year ahead.

Murphy is the GUN OF GUNS.

There is no way to describe how good he is going to be!!

Good that despite Waite and Setanta having cleary inferior games we still won. The midfield was much better today.

Stevens is a b-grade version of Bradley which is fantastic if he sticks around until the next premiership.

Betts is a gun and will be a 50 goal (+30 created) forward pocket in our next premiership side. He set the standard for forward pressure and tonight the forward pressure was as good as I have ever seen in it in years.

Still a long way to go. but....

GO BLUES!!!!

last week we won clearances at will, took the honours in the ruck and benefited from a lot of freebie goals from Fev. This week we struggled in the ruck, were consistantly second to the ball at the centre bounce but still managed to take the win with better movement, heaps of defensive pressure and better skills; a good win however you look at it.

Also, Tim Lane shit me to tears with his constant sly remarks about Setanta's kicking.

Not sure whether it was mentioned already in this thread but it pissed me off!

Russell's 2nd and 3rd efforts have to be some what good because his 1st efforts at the ball are pretty poo.

BlueBull meant that Walker was in top 5 best for Carlton and I agree with Bull.
In the 1st half, 2 of Boyle's goals were because Waite and or T-Bird turned the ball over and Tex WAS left to pick up 2 or 3 men. As good as Tex is, he just cant take them all and unfourtunatly the ball ended up with Tex's man. DAMN Tex for trying to do the team thing.

Fair enough.

My other half is an Essendon* Man and he's like "So when is Simpson coming to Essendon*?"

He's a great player is our Simmo :-D

Tell him "About 2 years past his use-by date, or when he's irreparably injured"

Stevo excellent in the final qtr. Ackland looked good early & took a great mark near goal....still plenty of work to do but nice to be through to the semis!

Go Bluebaggers!!!

Thought that Bentick played really well..despite Mitchell getting plenty of it(as he always does)..Bentick was as solid as a rock in the guts and i think we looked a stronger unit with him in and under the pill...Walker was fantastic too! Russell dissapointed me tonight, but i still have high hopes for him. Kennedy again impressed and Gibbs to me just looks to be learning and understanding the pace of the game. He seems to get to the right spots but only a fraction to late and by that time a Simpson or a Stevens already received the footy...but just wait. You can see it in his eyes the kid will be all class.!

Good win!

For those wondering about the support at the ground, I think we put the 'home' teams crowd to shame. When the song played at the end a large proportion of the main stand stayed and cheered the boys ie were Blues fans. The Carlton merchandise stand was by far the busiest throughout, and there was a huge turn out afterwards for the meet and greet.
As for the game our intensity won it I think, Eddie was 'the' defensive pressure man.
Mr Pratt was treated like a rock star, legendary
