GO BLUES!

9 Possies in the last quarter :-D

Effective? Tough on the champ but he should nail the goals.

I know. He's obviously not what he once was but still I'm not allowing myself to begrudge him just yet when he got as many possies as he did, especially because it was such a tight game, his possies really mattered, I thought.

Is it me or has holding the ball gone out the window this year? Appears umpires are concentrating on full backs and whether they're pushing or not..

Was really happy with Ackland, Murphy, o'hAilpin, Stevens (even if he's looking more and more like Strauchanie every day) and Simmo.

Saddo was great in the last quarter, but did nothing all game otherwise. Kennedy is starting to show a bit. The holding of the marks and the set shots on goal aren't quite there yet, but the willingness to roam up the ground, create space and a focal point help things very well.

Russell's starting to find his niche around the half forward area as a defensive forward, really did some nice things tonight, set the standard for forward line pressure, in the absence of Wiggins.

Thornton worked his way into the game well after a shaky first half. Starting to bob up, up forward a bit now too which is encouraging.

Waite was very good on Franklin. Kept him quiet after an explosive start.

I don't see any point in playing the vets in Lappin, Whitnall and Kouta next week. Contributed very little tonight.

Bentick and Walker had nights they'd rather forget. Bentick completely outclassed by Mitchell, Walker shown up for a lack of accountability on Boyle, and paid the price with 4 kicked on him.

Jackson was good down back in the last quarter as well, combined with Stevens a couple of times for some nice passages of play.

Was wondering who was on Boyle but assumed Walker was not as he usually wears his man like a glove.

Too harsh on Bentick IMO.

THere are good things to get from that, though...He'll learn accountability, which will stand him in good stead for the REAL season, and even with one person having 4 kicked on him, we still won, which is a huge plus for the defensive part of the team.

Saddo was great in the last quarter, but did nothing all game otherwise.

Seeing he only played 5 minutes of the 3rd and all the last, with the rest on the bench I'd say you are dreamin Cammo.

More of a compliment to Mitchell, than a slight on Bentick overall.

Both similiar players, and Bentick was shown to be out of his league tonight by a gun midfielder.

Having said that, I wouldn't say he's in my starting 22 either.

Well...he did nothing out on the ground, but bloody hell he put in 110% on the pine!

I'm not sure Walker was on Boyle, or at least couldn't be blamed, for all 4 goals anyway.

I'd say it's pretty accurate Caz, what would you say he was doing on the bench? I'd say nothing is pretty fair, although "sitting, with the occasional jog" would be more accurate if you wanted to be pedantic.

Hence he did nothing all game otherwise?

You can hardly hold that against him though. Lets look at what he did with the ground time available to him.

Walker started on Boyle, and I believe Saddo got moved onto him in the last.

Admittedly, most of the goals came from midfield turnovers, Walker wasn't seen anywhere near Boyle.

Loving how he's becoming our David King though.

Pardon my ignorance in the ambiguity of it all. I suspect both of us know what you meant though.

Fair enough.

My other half is an Essendon* Man and he's like "So when is Simpson coming to Essendon*?"

He's a great player is our Simmo :-D

In both games we have lacked poise. Sign of a young team. We would have buried the Hawks had it been not for some basic errors. Good effort overall.
