Would we have pick 1 or pick 2 in the draft. We would qualify for a priority pick if this happened, and as we have qualified for a priority pick two years in a row, our priority pick should be taken before the first round of the draft instead of the second unless I am mistaken. So in theory we could finish second last and still have pick one. I think.

I believe you're correct, provided the team that finishes last isn't Essendon*, who would also qualify for a before the first round priority pick.

Its a real posability with the club saying it's aim this year is to win 4-8 games...

It's so tempting!

But do we really need to?

If we did it would be some insurance on the youngsters we have coming through the ranks.

Surely we arent already talking about tanking!

I think we will win 6 games

Essendon* once, Kangas, Collingwood, Brisbane here, Melbourne and Richmond

surely tanking this year for pick 1& 2 will set the club up over the next 10 years in terms of the most exciting squad in the competition...

i am anti-tanking but this year must be tanked..using the rules to our advantage is fair game

Id never say im anti tanking but we should tank....

Id just come out and say.. the AFL have a system in place to help clubs with shit lists become great.. and thats the draft and especially priority picks.
It has been my opinion all along that we need to bolster our list from an average list to a great list and up to this year all our efforts have to go into making sure we get maximum benefit from the draft AND DEVELOP as well as we can what we draft.
We need one more year and were set for 7/ 10 years of excitement.
there is only one thing that will make the last 5 years worth it.. and thats to have the best list in the AFL backed by the strongest football department delivering premierships.
Coming out of this dark era with a middle of the road list wont cut it.
We have to move out of this era having tapped into all that we could to make sure we have every genuine opportunity to kick alot of opposition supporter heads as possible over the next decade...

if i was pagan i'll get as many games into blackwell, bower, edwards, anderson, flint, hartlett, griggs etc etc as possible during the year..

hopefully by the end of 2007 every player on the list would have minimum 10 games under their belt.

But giving games to average kids wont win games though will it???

so its all about list quality at the end of the day isnt it?

So supposing you had a bunch of bananas and you gave them a heap of games... the only thing that would breed is frustration !

You need top liner kids.. backed by a cast of kids with a sense of destiny in support.

If we finished 2nd last with four wins or less technically we'd have picks 1&3, if it were Essendon* who took the spoon we'd get picks 2&4. We don't need to tank, we just need to recruit well. Look at Brisbane lastnight: Sherman, Rischitelli, Adcock, all class players, all Victorians, all taken with late picks.

not all will make it, but if they show something they could have some currency in terms of packaged deals down the track..

Pardon the nitpicking - but Sherman is from Tassie. Also supported WCE growing up.

You should run down to the TAB and put $100 on the Lions making the eight....

It was just a practice match... we won that competition a couple of years ago and the wooden spoon.

Its abit different over 22 weeks and finals and then the grand final... Thats when you see the real class players making a difference

If we played a few youngsters and remained competative i would not be dissapointed at all with 4 wins.

I get the feeling that a man like Pratt would understand the buisness view behind this more than anyone....I hope!

He has stated that we are aiming for ten wins though.

Then again he said he wouldn't be running for president :-D

If Pagan thinks like you he should be damned if he does damned if he doesnt.
For Pagan its about development and education and not coaching for his own record.
e should be coaching to a plan.. and that is to play as many kids with a system as possible...
