My concern with Walker on Franklin is I keep reading that Franklin is more a crummer than a marking player where you will always see Walker going up in a pack to take the mark or spoil. If this happens Franklin will become a loose player and thats where he hurts teams.
Walker must be instructed not to go into the air for marking contests if Franklin stays down and drag him up to the wing as much as possible.

Stopping Chance Bateman running out of our forward line would be another area that needs to be looked at. He has killed us in some past games. Betts to play a defensive tagging role there I think.

Wow - how do you rate us then considering you've said the Hawks are absolute shite?

Everitt didn't play the last time we played you either, and Robert Campbell (with 18 hit-outs, 17 disposals and a goal) was clearly the dominant ruckman on the ground.

No "Brown & Yellow" Spider to hurt us this year. !!!!! I just had to make the point again!!

I really don't think Campbell caused much us that much pain that game ..... couple of kicks & marks wasn't it ..... seem o remember allot of circling handballs at half back that day trying to feed the ball to Hodge, impressive on the Stat sheet I supppose...... can't compare Campbell's game that day to any of Spiders ...... unless there's some bitterness there??

Franklin's 20 minute burst & some pretty accurate kicking caused us the most pain that day!! Mitchell & Clarke werent too bad either from what this old fella remembers. Anyway .... that's too long ago!! .... that was "TANKING" season.

Should be an interesting game.

Go Blues

Will it be live or, as usual, excessively delayed?!

I'm also gald we are playing the hawks. I think they are a year or 2 ahead of us at the moment.
Personally I would have preferred the Ds - last year they were the only other team we gave it to, so we stood a chance, as shown by last week's effort against the Filth. Still, it's a new year and, as shown by Mrs Caz's pic, a new side, so I'll stick with my Carlton by 15 tip.

Anyway, you guys should be looking forward to your first match at Aurora Stadium. Granted, it's in Tassie so the majority of us won't be watching our respective sides live, but the surface is supposedly the best in the country which is handy at this stage of the season. The less chance of any soft tissue injuries the better. And the travel factor is minimal.

I reckon the Hawks walk a bit taller when Brown is out there. I think that is where his value is, especially in a young team.

We're talking about Robert Campbell (ruckman), not Campbell Brown (defender). Robert Campbell will be playing on Saturday night.

Dwayne Russell thinks Hawthorn are flag contenders this year

dwayne should leave the thinking to other people

expect the hawks to be on song early this season and watch them fade in the 2nd half of the year
their training has been intense this pre-season and with a young list, it will take its toll on them later in the season

as for sat night game, i think both sides match up pretty well, hawks a little ahead in development but a 50/50 game.

Will Zac Dawson be lining up on Fev? If so, that gives us an 8 goal head start!! (MINIMUM!) :-D 8)

That's what everyone was saying about the Scum on Saturday night - that they would probably win because they were ahead of us in development! 8)

Alot of people are gonna hate me for saying this but.........................

Hand-ball! Just keeping handballing it off...................It will force us to run with the ball & it will force Hawthorn to chase which i don't think they'll like. My only rule is that under no circumstances are we to handball it backwards to a stationary player (only if the player is moving forward and is at a resonable distance.)

I dunno. It was just an idea i had to try and combat Hawthorns midfield.

If you want to limit their midfield, have a 3rd man up at every ball up apart from primary centre bounces. It will ensure Mitchell and co. will have their in close effectiveness limited.
Exploit their midfield weakness (footspeed)

No, he won't. Stephen Gilham will get first crack as he is now our first-choice FB. Did a very good job on David Neitz last week.

Dawson would probably take someone like Brad Fisher, who is not as likely to out-muscle him.

BTW - I'm not in any way sticking up for Dawson - I reckon he's rubbish.
